More than 6 million young people across the country will be celebrating National 4-H Week, the first full week of October. Laurel County 4-H will celebrate the great things that the 4-H youth development program offers and highlight the incredible 4-H young people who each day work to make a positive impact on their community. We are celebrating National 4-H Week October 2-6, 2017, and a few of our community businesses are celebrating with us! The following businesses are offering gifts or gifts with purchase to all 4-H members who show their (signed) club membership card when they order. Each fall, Tractor Supply helps raise money for 4-H programs through the sale of Paper Clovers in their stores. 90% of all funds raised are used for scholarships and other leadership events. 2 STATE FAIR RESULTS Laurel County 4-H represented themselves and our area extremely well this year! From all ranges of the spectrum of the events at the State Fair youth from Laurel County were involved. The following is a small sample of achievements from this year s fair: Swine: Jarrod and Miranda Cornett - Grand Champion Gilt Hampshire, Grand Champion Gilt, Grand Champion Gilt Duroc Dairy Goat: Josh Cornett and Makayla Cornett - Grand Champion Junior Doe Toggenburg, Premier Exhibitor Saanen, Grand Champion Junior Doe Saanen Avian Bowl: Grand Champion Team Olivia Collier, Layne McDiffett, Austin Parker, Blake Parker. Layne McDiffett, one of the top four individuals, will represent KY on the State Team competition in National Avian Bowl. 4 2017 World Chicken Festival Chick-a-lympics Sponsored by the Laurel County 4-H Council, Backyard Birds Poultry Club, London Laurel County Tourism, Women s Club of London and Bimbo Bakeries Sarah Walker and Tanner Corum were the winners of the bikes at the Chick-alympics at the World Chicken Festival this year.
