4 Quaish Limousins Nearly 30 years of Limousin breeding commenced in September 1988 when Nick Hill travelled to Carlise to purchase two foundation females and a bull. The first of the cows was an imported French cow called Star and the second Wedmore Blossom, who ironically originated from the neighbouring herd of Marion Stitch, as did the bull Wedmore Charlie. From these three animals, a passion for the breed and the show ring was developed resulting in numerous notable successes over the years, to include Royal Show Champion (RAC) Stoneleigh in Numbers increased to 20 breeding females which were reduced by half with a major reduction sale conducted in October 2011 and since that date have remained at this level. The showing bug was well and truly caught when Quaish Ab Fab won the National Primestock Show in Her daughter Quaish Evie is considered to be the best show cow that the herd has bred. Evie has produced a daughter Lottie who sells. With both Nick and Lisa working away from the farm the herd has had to be managed on a very commercial basis. The cows are grazed out during the summer and fed only silage and hay in the winter with no concentrates fed, except to the show cattle. Breeding has concentrated on producing easy to handle cattle with excellent temperaments and the ability to produce offspring with the very best of confirmation. Figures have never been a key feature of the herd with Nick relying on his eye to breed quality stock as demonstrated by the herds showing success from a relatively small number of cows. Having reached an agreement with their Landlord the family are relinquishing their tenancy at Decoy Pool Farm which has resulted in this very genuine sale taking place. Nick and Lisa s children Lottie and Archie share their passion for showing and it is their wish to try and continue the Quaish prefix and to allow them the opportunity to do this, two of the oldest cows and one pedigree British Blue cow are being retained. The majority of the cattle to be sold have been shown at some point and the sale includes the 2017 Show Team, Lucky, Lottie & Living the Dream ; their achievements include numerous breed and interbreed championships, interbreed pair and group championships across the South West to include Devon County, Royal Bath & West and The Royal Welsh Show. Indeed Quaish Lucky has been announced as the winner of the ED Down Trophy for gaining the most points at

5 Agricultural Shows during 2017 within the South West Limousin Cattle Breeders club. The sale cattle were pre-movement tested on 17th October and notably there has never been a TB reactor or IR on the holding. The Hill s work closely with their vets to ensure the herd is in the best of health with no need for vaccinations apart from Rispoval 4. (Please see Vets report) Orchard Vets Glastonbury It has been a pleasure to provide veterinary services to Nick and the Quaish herd over the past 15 years that I have known him. Nick has consistently produced award winning Limousin cattle which I have found to be as robust as they look. By taking a proactive approach to health and welfare combined with high levels of stocksmanship and attention to detail, disease rates have been low. Calves are vaccinated with Rispoval 4. 6 Quaish Herd Show Successes The herd s show achievements have been numerous the highlights include: Foxcroft Hifi Royal Show Male Breed Champion 2000 Laverock Nimrod Royal Show Supreme Breed Champion 2004 Wedmore Olga International Limousin Conference 1 st Mature Cow and Reserve Supreme Female and Quaish Toplass Overall Intermediate Female Champion. Olga went on to be sold for 15,000 and Toplass became an influential female in the herd with offspring catalogued Quaish Abfab Supreme Champion English Winter Fair. Abfab went onto breed Evie whose daughter Lottie is Lot 1018 in the catalogue. The three heifers Lucky (Lot 1017) Lottie (Lot 1018) and Livingthedream (Lot 1019) were the 2017 Show Team collecting numerous breed and interbreed successes between them.
