Extension Staff will look over your entries and ensure that the form is filled out correctly and that each member is enrolled in the right classes and lots. Rule in Regards to the Food Booth Just a reminder: This rule in regards to the food booth was made at a Leaders Meeting where all clubs were represented. The rule reads: All 4-H members (excluding cloverbuds) must work a shift at the food booth at the Richland County Fair. If a member does not work a shift, that member will be unable to exhibit at the fair the following year. Meaning, every 4-H member must work a shift this year at the fair. If they are unable to work the shift that was designated, they must contact the office and the manager of the food booth, Lisa Gorder, to find a shift that they can work. If a member does not work, they will not be allowed to exhibit livestock or indoor projects at the next year s fair. This does not effect their enrollment in the 4-H program; only participation at the fair. Attendance will be taken at each shift during the fair. Fashion & Quilt Revue is Here Again! This year s Fashion & Quilt Revue will be held May 31st at the Extension Office. Registration is due May 21st. The theme for this year is Over the Rainbow. NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Rabbit Meetings In addition to the Rabbit MQA, which is open to all members, held on May 12th at 3:00 p.m., there will be two more rabbit meetings this summer. There will be a meeting June 9th at 3:00 p.m. at the Extension Office and there will also be one July 21st at 3:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Market Poultry and Rabbits added to Market Livestock Sale There is an exciting change in the 4-H program. The Richland County 4-H Livestock Committee was approached and asked to consider selling market poultry and market rabbits at the 2018 Richland County 4-H Market Livestock Sale at the Fair. The decision was made at the April Livestock Committee meeting to accept this proposal. Members who are currently enrolled in the rabbit or poultry project who wish to enter a market lot in poultry and rabbit must meet the following member criteria as well as the species criteria. It is mandatory for members to attend Market Quality Assurance (MQA) for their respective species. Poultry MQA will be June 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. Rabbit MQA will be May 12th at 3:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Due to this being the first year, even if the member has attended MQA for a large animal species they will still be required to attend either poultry or rabbit MQA. Members must fill out the 4-H Livestock Ownership Form and turn it in with their fair entry forms. Members must also enter in the market lot of the project for fair. The member must be in good standing and follow all other livestock by-laws and rules. This year only the Grand and Reserve market poultry and rabbits will be eligible to sell at the livestock sale at the fair. The sale will be premium only for the market poultry and rabbits. This is an introductory year and this addition to the sale is new to all of us; we are all learning together and know that this process is not perfect and we will continue to improve this addition to the 4-H program. Poultry Meetings In addition to the poultry MQA, which is open to all members, held on June 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office, there will be another poultry meeting on July 24th. The time and location will be announced as the event gets closer. Market Poultry and Rabbit Species Guidelines Market Poultry Only chicken cockerels (male chicken under 1 year of age) will be allowed to enter in the market class. They must be of a recognized dual purpose or meat breed. There will be a pen of 2 birds required for the Lot of the same breed.
