We qualified 20 Bulldogs to the Regional Meets this upcoming week! Not only did we have to compete against really good competition, but also against the hot temperatures and high humidity (something that we haven t had to do all season!). But those things didn t deter us from sticking to the process and excelling at our jobs. The Girls team took 3 rd overall at the D1 Southeast/East District in Marietta. We were the top school to represent the Southeast portion of our district. We qualified 3 Field events, 5 Open events, and all 4 Relays; which is 12 out of the 17 events going to Regionals. Kristina Denbow and Lauren Abdella qualified in all 4 of their events. The Girls 4x100 team (Lindsay Zatta, Malley Davies, Lauren Abdella, and Kristina Denbow) were District Champs in the event. The girls will be competing at Pickerington North High School on Wednesday and Friday this week. The Boys team took 3 rd overall also at the D2 Southeast District in Meigs. Jay Mattson broke the school record in the Long Jump with a leap of 22 6 (this also broke the District Meet record). The Boys 4x200 team (Kyle Hua, Eric Holzschu, Jay Mattson, and Treyce Albin) had great handoffs and ran their best rest of the year, winning the event and breaking the District Meet record with a time of 1:30.70! Other District Champs were the Boys 4x100 (the same team as the 4x200) and Peter Buckley in the 3200m. The Boys 800 might have been the most exciting race of the night, will the top 4 spots all running 1:58, and our Tony Tonkovich was one of them, running a 4 second PR to qualify to Regionals!

4 4 Regional Track Meet Help On the next two pages of the Newsletter, I have a list of the job/responsibilities that we have as the Host Site for the Division 2 Southeast Regional Track Meet. This is a very important meet in the State Tournament, as it is the last step before the State Meet held at Jesse Owen Memorial Stadium in Columbus. We have hosted this meet three other times, and we have put on GREAT MEET for officials and athletes. This is a great opportunity to not only showcase our awesome facility, but to also raise some money for the Track & Field Program. Both days go very quickly! Each job/responsibility helps make the meet go quick and smooth. My wife will be sending out an for parents to sign up to help with our Hospitality Room for the officials that help facilitate that meet (over 50 some officials come from all over Ohio to help run the meet!). Last year, they were very impressed with our Hospitality Room, saying it was the best one they have been to. We need all Hands on Deck to make this work. Please sign up for one or both days. Below is a quick description of some of the jobs/responsibilities. All Athens Track & Field Athletes, you are required to help with this meet. Awards/Results: Individual will assist with: posting results on results boards; assist head awards person with the distribution of awards; etc. Tee shirt sales: Individuals working this area will be responsible for counting and sorting all beginning inventory, setting up a display, selling tee shirts, counting ending inventory and reconciling monies collected, etc. Hurdle crew: Upon direction from the announcer, individuals working this area will report to the infield to assist the umpires with ensuring that all hurdles are set up, aligned, at proper heights and on correct track marks before each hurdle race begins. After each heat, these workers will ensure that all hurdles are realigned and straight. Once the hurdle heats are completed, these workers will remove the hurdles from the track, prepare them for the next hurdle race (adjust heights if necessary) and stack them neatly. Once this is done, the crew will leave the infield and report back to the stands. Block crew: Upon direction from the head starter, these individuals will move the block cart as needed. These individuals will be responsible for retrieving blocks from the start of each race immediately upon the start of the race so as to not interfere with the completion or running of the race. These individuals will stay on the infield at all times and will always be wherever the block cart is. Program sales: Individuals working this area will be responsible for counting all beginning inventory, selling programs, counting ending inventories and reconciling monies collected, etc. Official s check-in/hospitality: Individuals working in this area will greet each official, assist them with signing in, directing them to the official s headquarters (Doc Kroner building), answering any questions they may have about where events are located, layout of facility, provide copy of map as needed, etc. These individuals will ensure that the official s hospitality area is stocked, clean and always has plenty of food and beverages. These individuals will be responsible for circulating around the facility with cold bottles of water. Gate Marshal: These individuals will guard various gates around the facility to ensure that no one enters, exits or hops over the respective gates. Rakers, Shaggers, Bars: These individuals will be responsible for replacing the high jump/pole vault bar, raking and/or sweeping the long jump pit and surrounding area and retrieving shot and discus implements once the event judge has called for a mark. These individuals may also serve as runners as needed for the respective field events. Workers will also be responsible for updating and publishing (swinging around) the performance boards at their particular events. Runners: These individuals will be gophers. They will assist the various areas (finish line, hospitality, press box, awards, etc) with all running needs. Baton Keepers: The state is requiring that the regional provide batons to be used for all relay events. The individuals working in this capacity will be responsible for distributing the batons before each relay and ensuring that they are all collected as the athletes cross the finish line. Awards Escort to Podium: Immediately upon the completion of a finals event, these individuals will escort athletes directly from the finish line to the awards podium. This needs to be worked by an adult.

7 7 Concession Stand News The Athens Track Program needs volunteers for the concession stand. Please get ahold of Coach Gonczy to sign up for some meets. This is the main source fundraising that the track and field program uses to help buy supplies for the track season. With our first meet coming up next week, we still have spots that need filled.
