1 Gene LaRose District Elementary Track and Field Meet Tuesday, May 22 & Wednesday, May 23, 2018 (Severe Weather Date Friday May 25, 2018) Dear Parent ( s)/guardian( s), During the past several weeks, the 5 th and 6 th graders have been involved in a track and field unit for Physical Education. Students are working hard and practicing the different events that they will compete in at the 47 th Annual Gene LaRose District Elementary Track and Field Meet scheduled for Tuesday, May 22 nd and Wednesday, May 23 rd at Goerke Park (a severe weather date is Friday May 25 th, 2018.) This is a culminating activity of a Physical Education Track and Field Unit used as an exposure event to team and individual competition. The tentative schedule of events is listed on the attached sheets. We try to follow the schedule as much as possible, as we appreciate parents taking time from their busy day to watch their child perform. Be advised, prior meets have run 5 30 minutes ahead or behind of schedule. Students need to bring SACK LUNCHES on both days. All participants must wear gym clothes but please make sure that your child dresses appropriately for the weather. Wind pants and light jackets work great for protection from the sun and wind, rain gear and umbrellas for light showers. DON T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN and WATER!!! IF A RAINDATE is called, please look to the district website and local radio stations. Basic Rules: ** Shoes with spikes, such as baseball shoes or track shoes, will not be allowed. ** and girls participating in the tug-of-victory are required to wear gloves. ** NO GUM or other substances are allowed on the turf. We ask that all parents and athletes stay off the turf area unless directed for competition. Parents, please use the outside of the track fence, south end of the west bleachers, and open sections for observing, taking pictures, and cheering on your students. You will be asked to move if you are obscuring the view of the starter, camera, and workers. This meet does not happen without the support and assistance from many volunteers. It is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22 nd and Wednesday, May 23 rd, with a severe weather date of FRIDAY May 25 th. We are in need of parents/adults to volunteer and assist with all track and field events. Below are the needed times and events. If you are interested, please fill out the form below and return to your physical education teacher by May 15th. You can also scan and form to Nancy Schuster, at nschuste@pointschools.net.
