2 Introduction 2nd Cavan Scouts were founded in 1930 and are based at Railway Road, Cavan. The group consists of four sections, made up of 90 youth members, from age 6-18, and 30 adult members. The group are currently fundraising to redevelop the existing Den into a modern Scout Centre, complete with campsite, outdoor activities and training facilities. Annalee Athletics Club have 60 members of all ages and regularly compete and excel in athletics events both locally and nationally. Fundraising is currently underway for a new track and facilities in Cavan Town. What s Happening? On Sunday 29th June 2014, 2nd Cavan and Annalee AC will co-host a 5k run, sponsored walk and fun day starting at the new International Scout Centre, Castle Saunderson Estate, located 15 minutes from Cavan Town. The course will involve a loop of the estate, followed by a family fun day held at the Scout Centre, with attractions such as fairground games, climbing and water activities, archery and hot food from the cafe as well as free bouncy castles, scouting games & face painting for the younger members. There will be excellent prizes on the day for individuals and groups. The Castle Run Challenge Camp This year, Castle Saunderson are holding a Challenge Camp in conjuction with the Castle Run - an activity-filled weekend commencing Friday 27th June, with climbing, forest and water activities, culminating with the 5k run on Sunday morning. How to get involved In this pack, you ll find several ways in which your group can benefit by participating in the Castle Run 2014, through fundraising, badgework and community involvement. There is an event poster, course map and a training plan poster for you to print and put up in your Den. Why not: ask your Scouts to raise sponsorship funds for your group using the attached form? We re suggesting 2 per line for walkers and 5 per line for runners. It could be a valuable source of income for your group. One group last year raised almost 4000! use the event to gain Special Interest Badges for your Scouts in Physical Skills, Community or Environment? Our training programme is designed for anyone to follow, whatever your initial level of fitness. If you wish to book for the Challenge Camp, please use the form enclosed. If entering for the run only, registration should be completed online. The entry fee for Scouting Ireland members is 10 per person - you should use discount code SCOUTINGIRE when registering.
