The weather has given us a few nice days and has lured a few Club members to take their boats back to the LSC harbor. With the spring season comes the LSC Call-Out for new members.

1 Waterline FLAFAYETTE SAILING CLUB VOLUME COMMODORE S MESSAGE Hello sailors, We ve made it through the long cold winter and we can welcome the sailing season of The weather has given us a few nice days and has lured a few Club members to take their boats back to the LSC harbor. With the spring season comes the LSC Call-Out for new members. On Friday evening, April 15, we will get together at the Sportsman Inn Cottage beginning at 6:00 pm. The location is on Lake Freeman, where highway 421 (39) crosses the lake. This event is always fun for everyone. We will have food and beverages. You ll have a chance to talk with old friends and potential new members. If you know of anyone that is interested in sailing, please invite them, they can meet our Club and learn about all of our activities. As always, no experience or boat is necessary to join our Club. We will also have a sailing school starting May 2, for anyone wanting instructions about sailing. Even old experienced sailors are welcome. So do your part and invite someone to the LSC Call-Out. A large membership helps keep expenses low enough so we can continue our fun events. Kirk 1

2 LSC Spring Call-Out The LSC Spring Call-Out is Friday, April 15 th, 6:00pm, at the Historic Sportsman Inn Clubhouse. This is the same place as last year. Expect a fine evening with likeminded individuals. The LSC has arranged for appetizers, deli platters, pasta, and potato salads, fruit, and sweet stuff. A cash bar will be available. All LSC members and family are welcome to attend. Think of the Call-Out as an excuse to get together with other LSC members and party. Bring a friend or invite a friend. The LSC has a lot to offer: sailing, racing, cruising, social. Potential new members are welcome. LSC membership applications will be available. Casual or nautical dress is appropriate. rsvp not necessary LSC Spring Clean-Up The Spring Clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 th, 10:00am. Come one come all to lend a hand and give assistance. The Grounds Committee and Club Fleet Committee have several projects to complete before the start of the sailing seasons. See ground Committee Chairman Ray Justice or Club Fleet Chairman Lewie Wallace for the specifics. Spring projects commonly include clearing debris away from the boat ramp, harbor repairs, painting, lawn care, Committee Boat preparations, lawn mower servicing, weed-trimmer servicing, stepping masts. Nothin but Fun! Bring your lunch and beverages of choice. Thank you in advance! 2

3 LSC Sailing School: 2011 The LSC Sailing School will feature Sailing for Beginners, Small Boat Racing, and Capsize Recovery this year. Indoor session will be 6:00PM, Monday, May 2 nd, Lafayette Downtown Tippecanoe Library. The "In The Water" session will be held the following Saturday, May 7 th, 11:00AM. Students are encouraged to stay for the scheduled race at 1:00PM. Bring a picnic lunch. Both sessions will be RSVP. Library room limit is 30 students. Library rules require that we avoid parking near the Library entrance, park at the west end of building. Optional materials fee is $20.00 including US Sailing's textbook "Start Sailing Right." Think of the LSC sailing school as the perfect school for the Crew also. Will there ever be a time that the Crew will have to take charge, maybe. LSC Ice-Breaker Series The LSC Ice-Breaker Series is scheduled throughout the month of April and the first two weeks of May. 4 Charlotte Harbor Mini-Cruise by Rex Henthorn Eleven members attended the first annual Punta Gorda Regatta the first week of March. Lunch was provided by Donna Muir; for the get-together, held at Muir s home on a canal, of Punta Gorda Isles. Despite the cold wintery weather in Indiana, the members attending enjoyed a beautiful afternoon around the pool in sunny, low 80 surroundings. The only official business undertaken was a presentation by Commodore Kirk Gilbert of a Commodore s hat to Warren Stevenson who had served as Commodore in 1984, but for whatever reason, was never presented with a hat. Judy, Sandy, & Rex enjoy hors d oeuvres Kirk, Bill, and Rex sailed Charlotte Harbor, from Boca Grand Burnt Store into the Gulf of Mexico, the day before. For the next few days following the gettogether several attempts were made for Bill s sailboat to meet up with Rex s sailboat somewhere in the middle of Charlotte Harbor to exchange beverages----but each try was frustrated by either weather, insufficient time to make the journey or the respective captains getting lost. 5 LSC Sailors on Lake Carlyle: Winter 2011 Once again a few LSC sailors went to Lake Carlyle for some Winter Sailing. The first day we had short sleeve shirt weather, with plenty of wind. The second and third day required foul weather gear. Sailing and bird watching was pleasant regardless of the weather. Friday night Bruce Borror guided us to his old stomping grounds for an all you can eat fish dinner. Saturday night we join the Carlyle Yacht Club for their Annual Burn Your Socks Social.
