3 More tha sail training The Tall Ships Races are addressed at young people aged At least half of the crew must be in this age range and the primary aim of the event is sail training, which involves more than teaching the craft of sailing, as participants must display perseverance when facing physical and emotional challenges. They will have the opportunity to build self-confidence and develop responsibility. One of the primary values promoted by the Tall Ships Races is the acceptance of others regardless of their cultural and social background, abilities, limitations, gender, faith or nationality. This approach fosters international friendship by encouraging young people to work together.

4 We re crossing our fingers for our team! Since Monday our young sailors have been running against crews from around the world on the decks of Urtika, Zryw and Fryderyk Chopin. Under the watchful eye of experienced captains, they will show the spirit of competition and fair play. Fingers crossed! Naturally, Szczecin has its own team sailing in the Tall Ships Races 2017.

5 The finale is drawing near... As vessels compete in the Tall Ships Races 2017, we are waiting to welcome them in our city. On 5-8 August, dozens of majestic sailing ships and beautiful yachts will moor at the quays and boulevards of Szczecin, including Santa Maria Manuela, a four-masted schooner built in 1937 in Lisbon and completed in the record time of 62 days, and Zawisza Czarny, the largest sailing vessel in any scout organisation in the world. The flagship of the Polish Scouting Organisation, it is a vessel that has its own spirit and has navigated seas and oceans for more than 60 years. Szczecin will also host Shabab Oman II, a sail training ship for the Royal Navy of Oman that replaced its predecessor Shabab Oman I in 2014, which visited Szczecin during the Tall Ships Races 2013.

6 The Voice of Poland concert There will be fantastic music to liven up the event, with Andrea Bocelli performing on Saturday (5 August) and participants of The Voice of Poland show performing on Sunday (6 August) against a background featuring the world's largest sailing ships. The Voice is a famous international TV talent show format that first aired in 2010 in the Netherlands, followed by 50 other countries. The Polish version has had seven editions so far, with the eighth now in the casting phase. The Szczecin episode of The Voice of Poland will be broadcast throughout Poland on the second channel of Telewizja Polska. If you are a VoP fan (and into sailing ships) but cannot make it to Szczecin, tune in to TVP2 for live coverage from the Chrobry Embankment. Sailing atmosphere at Różanka Want your children to discover the sailing side of Szczecin and experience the event's atmosphere with regatta-themed colouring pages featuring maritime symbols? Szczecin Art Agency is holding an event with sailing attractions for kids. The previous event was an arts and crafts workshop, and one of the activities involved colouring the sailor from Grunwaldzki square. Another event takes place on 8 July: this time the task will be to create a large-format maritime colouring page. Two weeks later, on 22 July, Różanka Gardens will turn into a giant origami shipyard constructing paper ships.

7 Accompanying events Anyone who visits the Tall Ships Races venue on 5-8 August will find plenty of attractions. The sports zone on Grodzka Island will offer opportunities to have fun actively, with attractions including, but definitely not limited to, martial art shows, ergometer rowing, tug-of-war, a table tennis tournament, strongman competition, kids zone, stilts race, archery shooting, surfing board simulator and dodge ball. If you're into trains, get your family and friends to complete in an event held by OT Logistics: a draisine race on a railway section that is 100 metres long. The draisines will be available to all visitors of the Tall Ships Races from 5 until 7 August from 10 am to 4 pm. The Sand Sculpture Festival, which started last Saturday, is another event that makes the regatta finale even more amazing. The inconspicuous -looking sand dumped at the back of the Old Slaughterhouse on Łasztownia will turn into sculptures up to 4.5 metres in height. Five artists take part in the festival, and the sculptures they make with their own hands can be viewed until 20 August. Six sculptures will have been completed by the time the regatta starts, with the largest one finished off during the event.

8 Promotion For several weeks anyone who drives into Szczecin has passed the welcome signs set up to advertise the Tall Ships Races finale and other sailing-themed elements have been featured throughout Poland. Stores of the Netto chain, the main port sponsor of the event, have billboards on display promoting the regatta finale, while train passengers travelling around the country have received their tickets in regatta covers. We have even advertised the regatta in the sky, by publishing event details in Wizzair on-board catalogues. We also promoted with an exhibition stand at the Polish Days in Prague, where visitors had an opportunity to see around Szczecin using 360 goggles. By the way, residents and tourists in Prague were really excited about our delicious pâtés. The city's official website at wiadomości.szczecin.eu now features a tab exclusively dedicated to news about the Tall Ships Races 2017.

10 Become event ambassador on Facebook! We have been quite active on our Facebook profile as well. And we are no longer the only ones to promote the Tall Ships Races finale: any Facebook user can become an ambassador of the event, too! How exactly? Facebook's recently launched creative effects platform lets you apply maritime-themed frames to your profile picture with just one click. To use the frame featuring ropes, an anchor and a helm, go to the Finał The Tall Ships Races 2017 event page and click the button Use creative effect. Alternatively, you can set one of the compositions we have prepared as your profile picture or cover photo. Apart from the race results, you can view detailed information about the speed, commander, class rank and general classification of each vessel. On 3 July the largest yachts and sailing ships set off from Halmstad to embark on a unique adventure that ends in Szczecin on 5-8 August. Before the vessels moor at Szczecin's quays, they must cover hundreds of sea miles and visit the ports of Kotka and Turku, Finland, and Klaipėda, Lithuania. Fair winds to all the crews!
