1 Vol. CXV No. IX November From The Bridge A s I am writing this note, the leaves are falling and it is a beautiful fall day. Fall Fun is on deck at Milford Yacht Club. The unofficial start began with many of the members children dressing up and enjoying the Halloween festivities at the Club. We all enjoyed seeing the little ones dressed for the holiday at the party. A good time was had by all. During the next few months, the Club will be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 23rd, and the annual Holiday Party on Saturday, December 9th. Please be sure to make your reservations. In addition, to the holiday events, Vice Commodore Ken Herbert s Entertainment Committee has planned a few special events for November. Sean Morrissey will be entertaining us on Friday, November 17th in the Commodore s Lounge. For those of you who have heard Sean at previous events you know how much fun a night of his music can be. We are once again having the Autumn Jazz Brunch on November 5th featuring the Ken Trapp Duo. This year we are bringing back the highly competitive Soup Wars! on Sunday, November 19th. Keep an eye out for an e-blast with more details and start working on your recipes. We are also offering breakfast at the Club on November 12th, 19th and 26th. The Milford Yacht Club sailors are still active in the fall. The Fleet Banquet is being held on November 2nd with a great program planned. Please come out and support all of the winners! In addition, the Frostbiters have started their season. Come on down on Sundays and visit with your sailing friends. I am sure you ve noticed how lovely the Club entry is decorated for the fall harvest season. I want to personally thank Dory Neilson and Nell Moll for making the time and effort to make the Club look its best. It really makes the Club feel welcoming. The officers and I are sure all the Club members appreciate all that they do. Again, thank you. And speaking of decorations, the traditional MYC Christmas Tree Decorating event will take place on November 26th. I would ask that you continue to keep the Club in mind as you plan your holiday events or work outings. All outside events contribute to the successful operation of the Club. Finally, please keep an eye on the e-blasts for upcoming events. Please be sure that we have your current so that you don t miss out on any of the Fall Fun! For those sailors still in the Club marina, heed this fair warning. Past Commodore John Nevin is slap-happy this month, once again offering unsolicited advice to mariners, this time about slapping halyards. The blustery north wind has halyards undulating against the cold aluminum masts, radiating a cacophony of clanging in their wakes. Nevin, an outspoken anti-halyard slapping activist, recently formed S.L.O.T.H. (Sailors Loving Our Taut Halyards) to raise awareness to this noisy issue. I know some romanticize the sound of clanging halyards in the marina. Humbug I say! Clang, clang, clang went the trolley...not the halyard!
