2 Merits of This is a Medinan sūrah. The surah that issues the lawful procedures by which one may DIVORCE and that calls for fair parting between believers if marriage is to end, in accordance with what is right and within God s prescribed limits, while promising ease and deliverance for the truly God-fearing who undergo this trauma. It takes its name from verse 1. concerning divorce (ṭalāq). The surah strongly urges people to observe God s regulations and guidance. To reinforce this they are reminded of the fate of earlier disobedient peoples and the rewards of the obedient. God s power and knowledge are emphasized at the end (verse 12). Imam Ja far as-sadiq (a.s.) has said that if surah at-talaq and surah at-tahrim are recited in the faraa idh then the reciter will be protected by Allah (s.w.t.) from the fear of the Day of Judgement and he will enter Jannah. In another narration it is said that the one who recites this surah will be given the inspiration to perform Tawbatan Nasuha (the sincere repentance to Allah [s.w.t.]).

4 ب ش م الل ي الر خ الر خ م ن م In the Name of Allāh, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. ؾیم اور دائمی رخمج ں والے خدا هام صے کے अल र ह क न भ स ज फड क ऩ र औय अत मन त दम व न ह bi-smi llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīmi

When you divorce women, divorce them at [the conclusion of] their term and calculate the term, and be wary of Allah, your Lord. روا دو غالق صے خشاب کے دت اهہیں ث دو غالق ل گ رث ں ک ثم اے پیغمبر!جب ثے رہ کہ وہ ثمہارا پروردگار ےہ هللا صے ڈر اور رکھ خشاب کا دت پھر ऐ नफ! जफ त भ र ग स त र म क तर क द त उन ह तर क उनक इद दत क हहस फ स द औय इद दत क गणन कय औय अल र ह क डय यख, ज त म ह य यफ ह yā-ʾayyuhā n-nabiyyu ʾidhā ṭallaqtumu n-nisāʾa fa-ṭalliqūhunna li-ʿiddatihinna wa-ʾaḥṣū l-ʿiddata wa-ttaqū llāha rabbakum

These are Allah s bounds ل ان خبردار اهہیں اور بج هکلیں خ د هہ وہ اور هکالوا مت کے گھروں صے ہیں خدود کریں-یہ خدائی ھال ہ ا گواہ هہ ثک ک ئی ک उन ह उनक घय स न ननक र औय न व रवम ननकर, ससव म इसक कक व क ई रऩष ट अश बन म कभम कय फ ठ म अल र ह क ननमत क ह ई स भ ए ह lā tukhrijūhunna min buyūtihinna wa-lā yakhrujna ʾillā ʾan yaʾtīna bi-fāḥishatin mubayyinatin wa-tilka ḥudūdu llāhi

You never know may be Allah will bring off something new later on. کیا ےہ ثمہیں هہیں ؽلم پر هفس هے اپےن ہی اس کرے گا ثجاوز صے خدود خدائی ج اور ایجاد کردے بات ک ئی هئی بفد کے اس خدا ظاید کہ مفل م औय ज अल र ह क स भ ओ क उल र घन कय त उसन रवम अऩन आऩ ऩय ज ल भ ककम - त भ नह ज नत, कद च त इस (तर क ) क ऩश त अल र ह क ई स यत ऩ द कय द wa-man yataʿadda ḥudūda llāhi fa-qad ẓalama nafsahū lā tadrī laʿalla llāha yuḥdithu baʿda dhālika ʾamran

8 ن ب م ف ر وف ا و ن ف ا م ش ن ف إ ذا ب ل غ ن ا ج ل ف ار ل ن ب م ف ر و ف Then, when they have completed their term, either retain them honourably or separate from them honourably پھر جب وہ اپوی مدت ک پ را کرلیں ث اهہیں هیکی کے صاثھ روک ل یا هیکی ہی کے صاثھ رخصت کردو कपय जफ व अऩन ननमत इद दत क ऩह त म त उन ह बर य नत स य क र म बर य नत स अरग कय द fa-ʾidhā balaghna ʾajalahunna fa-ʾamsikūhunna bi-maʿrūfin ʾaw fāriqūhunna bimaʿrūfin

9 وا د ظ ا و ي و ذ و م ون م ل د ي ل ل ة اد الط ا م ل ا and take the witness of two fair men from among yourselves, and bear witness for the sake of Allah. غالق اور ےئل کے روا ک گ اہ بواؤ افراد ادل دو اپےن میں صے خدا صرف گ اہی ک ےئل کے کرو لائم औय अऩन भ स द न म मप र म आदसभम क गव ह फन द औय अल र ह क सरए गव ह क द र रत यख wa-ʾashhidū dhaway ʿadlin minkum wa-ʾaqīmū sh-shahādata li-llāhi

10 ر خ ا ل م ال و ي الل ب ن م ؤ ان ه ن م ؼ ي ب ا ر ج خ م ي ٢ ل و ف ج الل ي ق ج ن م و م ن ل ذ To [comply with] this is advised whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day. 11 ل هو ج ن م و ب ش ج د ل ح خ ن م ي ل ز ر و الل ي و ف ج لد ر ى م ا ق ب ال ي الل ن إ ي ب ش خ ف الل ي ا ٣ ر د ل ء ظ و ن ل and provide for him from whence he does not reckon. And whoever puts his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Indeed Allah carries through His command. Certainly Allah has set a measure for everything. پر بھروصہ کرے گا خدا ج اور کا خیال بھی هہیں ہ ثا ےہ جس دیجا ےہ رزق اصے ایشی جگہ صے اور رادكم کیا ےئل هے ہر ظے کے اس ےہ وا ل اپےن خکم کا پہوچاهے خدا کافی ےہ بیطک ےئل کے اس خدا مفین کردی ےہ औय उस वह स य ज द ग स त जसक उस ग भ न ब न ह ग ज अल र ह ऩय बय स कय त वह उसक सरए क फ ह ननश म ह अल र ह अऩन क भ ऩ य कयक यहत ह अल र ह न हय ज क एक अन द ज ननमत कय यख ह wa-yarzuqhu min ḥaythu lā yaḥtasibu wa-man yatawakkal ʿalā llāhi fa-huwa ḥasbuhū ʾinna llāha bālighu ʾamrihī qad jaʿala llāhu li-kulli shayʾin qadran

12 ن إ م ن ش ائ ه ن م ض د ال م ن م ن ش ئ ئ الال و ن ظ د ل م ئ الال و ر ظ ا خ ة ال خ ن دث ف ف م ج ث ب ار As for those of your wives who do not hope to have menses, should you have any doubts, their term shall be three months, and for those [as well] who have not yet had menses. نا ث هے میں ظک ہ کے یائشہ ہ ان خیض صے مای س ہ چکی ہیں اگر ج ثمہاری رث ں میں اور ےہ اثا کے یہاں خیض هہیں جن وہ رثیں غرح اصی اور کا دہ ثین مہیےن ےہ औय त म ह य स त र म भ स ज भ ससक धभम स ननय श ह क ह, महद त म ह स द ह ह त उनक इद दत त न भ स ह औय इस क य उनक ब ज अब यजरवर नह ह ई wa-llāʾī yaʾisna mina l-maḥīḍi min nisāʾikum ʾini rtabtum fa-ʿiddatuhunna thalāthatu ʾashhurin wa-llāʾī lam yaḥiḍna

13 ن م و ن ل م خ ن ف ظ ان ن ل ج ا ال م خ ا ل ت و ل ا و ٤ ر ا ش ر ى م ا ن م ي ل و ف ج الل ي ق ج As for those who are pregnant, their term shall be until they deliver. And whoever is wary of Allah, He shall grant him ease in his affairs. خاملہ رث ں کا دہ اور خمو وطؿ ثک ےہ اس خدا صے ڈرثا ےہ خدا ج اور کردیجا ےہ کے امر اصاهی پیدا میں औय ज गबमवत स त र म ह उनक इद दत उनक सशश - सव तक ह ज क ई अल र ह क डय यख ग उसक भ भर भ वह आस न ऩ द कय द ग wa-ʾulātu l-ʾaḥmāli ʾajaluhunna ʾan yaḍaʿna ḥamlahunna wa-man yattaqi llāha yajʿal lahū min ʾamrihī yusran

14 ذ ل م ر ي و ي ن ف ي ا هز ل ي إ ل ن م و م ن ج ق الل الل ص ئ ث ي و ف ؾ م ل ي ا ج ر ا ٥ م ر ا That is the ordinance of Allah which He has sent down to you, and whoever is wary of Allah, He shall absolve him of his misdeeds and give him a great reward. یہ خکم خدا ےہ جشے ثمہاری غرف اس هے هازل کیا ےہ اور ج خدا صے ڈرثا ےہ خدا اس کی برائی ں ک دور کردیجا ےہ اور اس کے اجر میں اطافہ کردیجا ےہ मह अल र ह क आद श ह ज उसन त म ह य ओय उत य ह औय ज क ई अल र ह क डय यख ग उसस वह उसक फ य ईम द य कय द ग औय उसक नतद न क फड कय द ग dhālika ʾamru llāhi ʾanzalahū ʾilaykum wa-man yattaqi llāha yukaffir ʿanhu sayyiʾātihī wa-yuʿẓim lahū ʾajran

15 ل و م ه د ج و ن م م وج ن ص ح خ ن م ن و ن ص ا ن ل ك ا ظ ج ل ن و ار ظ ث House them where you live, in accordance with your means, and do not harass them to put them in straits, پر رکھےت ہ ثم غالت جیشی دو ک صک هت مػلكات ان اور ثوگی کرو اور اهہیں اذیت کہ دو مت ان غرح اس अऩन ह ससमत क अन स य मह त भ रवम यहत ह उन ह ब उस जगह यख औय उन ह त ग कयन क सरए उन ह ह नन न ऩह ओ ʾaskinūhunna min ḥaythu sakantum min wujdikum wa-lā tuḍārrūhunna lituḍayyiqū ʿalayhinna

16 ف ظ ج خ ن ر ج ا ن ل ك ا هف ا ف و م خ ت و ل ا ن ه ن إ و ن اث ف م ن ل ن ف ط ر ا ن إ ف ن ل م خ ن and should they be pregnant, maintain them until they deliver. Then, if they suckle [the baby] for you, give them their wages اور هہ ہ جائے پھر اگر وہ خمو وطؿ ثک جب کرو اهفاق ثک ولت اس پر ان ث اگر خاملہ ہ ں ود دو اجرت کی ان اهہیں ث ثمہارے بچ ں ک دودھ پالئیں औय महद व गबमवत ह त उनऩय ख म कयत यह जफ तक कक उनक सशश - सव न ह ज ए कपय महद व त म ह य सरए (सशश क ) द ध प रऩर ए त त भ उन ह उनक ऩ रयश र सभक द wa-ʾin kunna ʾulāti ḥamlin fa-ʾanfiqū ʿalayhinna ḥattā yaḍaʿna ḥamlahunna fa- ʾin ʾarḍaʿna lakum fa-ʾātūhunna ʾujūrahunna

17 وا ر م ث ا و ن و ب ي ل ؿ ط ر ج ش ف م ث ر اص ف ث ن إ و وف ر ف م ب م ى ر خ ٦ ا and consult together honourably; but if you make things difficult for each other, then another woman will suckle [the baby] for him. ک دودھ اور رت دوصری ث اپس میں کطاکض ہ جائے رگا اور اپس میں هیکی کے صاثھ غے کرو اصے دو م لؿ پالهے کا औय आऩस भ बर य नत स ऩयरऩय फ त त क द व य क ई फ त तम कय र औय महद त भ द न भ क ई कहठन ई ह त कपय क ई द सय र उसक सरए द ध प रऩर द ग wa-ʾtamirū baynakum bi-maʿrūfin wa-ʾin taʿāsartum fa-sa-turḍiʿu lahū ʾukhrā

18 ي ل ر ز ي ل ر د ل ن م و ي ج ف ص ن م ة ف ص ذو ق وف ل ي الل اى اث ا م م ق وف ل ف Let the affluent man spend out of his affluence, and let he whose provision has been tightened spend out of what Allah has given him. میں ثوگی ےہ وہ اصی رزق کے جس اور خرچ کرے مػابق کے وصفت ک چاہےئ کہ اپوی وصفت صاخب هے اصے دیا ےہ خدا ج میں صے خرچ کرے हहए कक सभ ई (स भर थमम) व र अऩन सभ ई क अन स य ख म कय औय स त जस उसक य ज नऩ -त र सभर ह त उस हहए कक अल र ह न उस ज क छ ब हदम ह उस भ स वह ख म कय li-yunfiq dhū saʿatin min saʿatihī wa-man qudira ʿalayhi rizquhū fa-l-yunfiq mimmā ʾātāhu llāhu

19 و ف ج ص ا ا اث ا د ب ف الل ي م ل إ ا ش ف ه ي الل ف ن ل ل ش ر ا ٧ ش ر Allah does not task any soul except [according to] what He has given it. Allah will bring about ease after hardship. ثوگی کہ خدا کشی صے زیادہ ثکلیف هہیں دیجا ےہ ججوا اصے اس ک هفس کردے گا ػا وصفت بفد کے ػا خدا کیا گیا ےہ وكریب स त जतन क छ हदम ह उसस फढ कय अल र ह ककस व मस त तत ऩय स त जम भ द य क फ झ नह ड रत जल द ह अल र ह कहठन ई क फ द आस न ऩ द कय द ग lā yukallifu llāhu nafsan ʾillā mā ʾātāhā sa-yajʿalu llāhu baʿda ʿusrin yusran

20 ي ل ص ر و ا ب ر ر م ا ن ت ج ة ر ل ن م ن ا ه و ن ر ا ه ذاب ا ا ا ب و ذ و ا د د ظ اب ا ش خ ا ا و ب اص د ف ٨ How many a town defied the command of its Lord and His apostles, then We called it to a severe account and punished it with a dire punishment. کا ظدید مداصبہ اور هے مہ ث کی هافرماهی کی رص ل و خدا خکم ےه کجوی ہی بشجیاں ہیں جوہ ں کردیا مجبال میں ذاب اهہیں بدثرین اور کرلیا ان ककतन ह फस त रतम ह स त जन ह न यफ औय उसक यस र क आद श क भ क फर भ सयकश क, त हभन उनक सख त ऩकड क औय उन ह फ य म तन द wa-ka-ʾayyin min qaryatin ʿatat ʿan ʾamri rabbihā wa-rusulihī fa-ḥāsabnāhā ḥisāban shadīdan wa-ʿadhdhabnāhā ʿadhāban nukran

21 ا خ ش ر ا ٩ م ر ان ا ا و ه م ر ال ب ة ا ت و ب ال ف ذ ال So it tasted the evil consequences of its conduct, and the outcome of its conduct was ruin. پھر اهہ ں ےه اپےن کام کے وبال کا مزہ چکھ لیا ا خری اور اهجام خشارہ ہی لرار پایا अत उन ह न अऩन ककए क वफ र क भज ख सरम औय उनक क मम-न नत क ऩरयण भ घ ट ह यह fa-dhāqat wabāla ʾamrihā wa-kāna ʿāqibatu ʾamrihā khusran

22 ول ا ا ي الل ك ا اث ف ا د د ظ ذاب ا م ل ي الل د ا م ن ل إ الل ي ل هز ا د ل ا و م ا ن ذ ال اب ب ل ا ل ر ا ١٠ ه ذ Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment. So be wary of Allah, O you who possess intellect and have faith! Allah has already sent down to you a reminder, سا هللا صے ڈرو کہ وال كو اور وال ا کر رکھا ےہ لہذا ایمان مہی ذاب کا لشم ظدید ےئل کے ان ےه اللر کیا ےہ هازل اپےن ذکر ک غرف هے ثمہاری अल र ह न उनक सरए कठ य म तन त म य कय यख ह अत ऐ फ प र औय सभझव र ज ईभ न र ए ह! अल र ह क डय यख अल र ह न त म ह य ओय एक म दहदह न उत य द ह ʾaʿadda llāhu lahum ʿadhāban shadīdan fa-ttaqū llāha yā-ʾulī l-ʾalbābi lladhīna ʾāmanū qad ʾanzala llāhu ʾilaykum dhikran

23 ن ال ذ ر ج خ ل ات و ب م ي الل ات ا م ن ل ل ج ل ص ر ر الو ل إ ات م الؾل ن م ات د ال الص ل ا م و ا و م ا an apostle reciting to you the manifest signs of Allah that He may bring out those who have faith and do righteous deeds from darkness into light. وہ هللا کی ج رص ل کیه اور ایات کی ثالوت کرثا ےہ کہ ایمان واطح ائے لے غرف کی ه ر صے هکال کر مو هے وال ں ک ثاریکی ں کر (अथ मत) एक यस र ज त म ह अल र ह क रऩष ट आमत ऩढ कय स न त ह, त कक वह उन र ग क, ज ईभ न र ए औय उन ह न अच छ कभम ककए, अ ध य स ननक रकय क श क ओय र आए rasūlan yatlū ʿalaykum ʾāyāti llāhi mubayyinātin li-yukhrija lladhīna ʾāmanū wa- ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti mina ẓ-ẓulumāti ʾilā n-nūri

24 و م ف و ي ؤ الل ب ن م ن م و ار ه ا ل ا ج د ث ن م ر ي ث ج ت ا و ج ي ل خ د ا د ال ص ا ب د ا ا ف ن د ال خ And whoever has faith in Allah and does righteous deeds, He shall admit him into gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever کے خدا ج اور نج کرے گا داخو جوج ں میں ان اصے خدا کرے گا مو هیک اور پر ایمان رکھے گا ہی میں ہمیطہ رہےن والے ہیں ان هیچے هہریں جاری ہ ں گی وہ ज क ई अल र ह ऩय ईभ न र ए औय अच छ कभम कय, उस वह ऐस फ ग भ द खख र कय ग स त जनक न नहय फह यह ह ग - ऐस र ग उनभ सद व यह ग wa-man yuʾmin bi-llāhi wa-yaʿmal ṣāliḥan yudkhilhu jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l- ʾanhāru khālidīna fīhā ʾabadan

25 ل د ا خ ش ن الل ي ل ي ر ز لا ١١ Allah has certainly granted him an excellent provision. اور هللا ےه اهہیں یہ بہجرین رزق ػا کیا ےہ अल र ह न उनक सरए उत तभ य ज यख ह qad ʾaḥsana llāhu lahū rizqan-i

26 ن ل د م ض ر ا ل ن م و ات او م ص ؿ ب ص ق خل ذ ي ال الل ي ن و ب ر م ا ل زل و ج It is Allah who has created seven heavens, and of the earth [a number] similar to them. The command gradually descends through them, جس ہی وہ ےہ اللر زمیو ں میں بھی ویشی ہی زمیویں بوائی ہیں اور اصماه ں ک پیدا کیا ےہ هے صاث ں ثے رہےت ہیں ہ هازل کے درمیان ان کے اخکام اس अल र ह ह ह स त जसन स त आक श फन ए औय उन ह क सद श धयत स ब उनक फ (उसक ) आद श उतयत यहत allāhu lladhī khalaqa sabʿa samāwātin wa-mina l-ʾarḍi mithlahunna yatanazzalu l-ʾamru baynahunna

27 ل ج ف ل م ا ا ن الل ي ل ا خ اط ب ن و ن الل ي ل ظ ء ل د ر و ا ه و ظ ء ل م ا ١٢ د that you may know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah comprehends all things in knowledge. ثاکہ ثمہیں یہ مفل م رےہ کہ وہ ہر ظے پر لادر ےہ کا اور اس لم ثمام اظیائ ک مدیع ےہ त कक त भ ज न र कक अल र ह क हय ज क स भर थमम प त ह औय मह कक अल र ह हय ज क अऩन ज ञ न-ऩरयचध भ सरए ह ए ह li-taʿlamū ʾanna llāha ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun wa-ʾanna llāha qad ʾaḥāṭa bikulli shayʾin ʿilman
