The 5 boat Flying Scot class was won by 6 year old Anders Fanberg sailing in his first ever regatta!

St. Patrick s, St Stanislaus, Ben Franklin and Ursuline all provided teams with ample sailors waiting in the

Conditions were perfect in the morning with a nice sea breeze filling in on schedule. The Race committee was able to run 6 fun and fast paced races for all. The 5 boat Flying Scot class was won by 6 year old Anders Fanberg sailing in his first ever regatta! 13 boats participated in the 420 division with James Edwards narrowly edging out sister Mallory Edwards by 1 point. St. Patrick s, St Stanislaus, Ben Franklin and Ursuline all provided teams with ample sailors waiting in the wings, a testament to the popularity of 420 sailing. Page 2 March 2017 Commodore s Corner This Mardi Gras Season has been fun and busy! But boy am I glad it is over! I m worn out from all of the fun and I m ready to get back to normal.

The Board has approved some repairs to be done around the club and we are getting quotes on some other items that need attention.

Many activities are planned for this month, so please be sure to check the Jib sheet and weekly emails for updates. See you at the Club!

2 Page 2 March 2017 Commodore s Corner This Mardi Gras Season has been fun and busy! But boy am I glad it is over! I m worn out from all of the fun and I m ready to get back to normal. Thank you to our Newlywed Game contestants and Sarah Fanberg for putting on such a fun evening. Congratulations to our Winners, Rear Commodore Eugene & Theresa Schmitt. We have hired Casey Trapani as our Sailing Camp Director and are now taking applications for camp counselors. Thank you to the LAUX for the new Popcorn Machine. I know it will get a lot of use. 5 Page 5 March 2017 FEBRUARY 2017 GROUNDS REPORT We had an active January and February at the club and most of the activities were located at or around the beach area. One of the biggest problems was a lack of electric power at this site. I contacted Andy Lucas with Moses Electric and the board has approved putting power at the dumpster. The grounds are in fair shape but we need to move some boats around and clean up the beach area. Ms. Judy has done some work on the front garden, but more is needed. I would like to bring up the fact that Jeff Harding is doing a very good job of keeping the grounds clean of construction mud and rocks. Bill

I look forward to seeing all of the camp sailors from last year and meeting the new ones.

We had a superb turnout for our bonfire on the 16th!

6 Page 6 March 2017 Sailing Camp News Well it is that time again, Sailing camp is here and it's time to register!! I am excited to be directing camp again. I look forward to seeing all of the camp sailors from last year and meeting the new ones. We will have 3 sessions, the race clinic, camp regatta and the banquet this summer. Please look in the jib sheet or call the Bay Waveland Yacht Club for more information. Please take the time and register your sailors before we fill up!! Again, I look forward to an exciting fun filled summer with your children! Thank you, Casey Trapani This month has been a productive one from the Junior s corner! We had a superb turnout for our bonfire on the 16th! Thanks to everyone who came out and thanks to those who helped set it all up! The biggest thanks goes to Becky Trapani as usual for getting everything to make the bonfire happen! Coming up soon, on the 3rd of March, the juniors will be going to Kings Kitchen to feed the homeless as a service effort to give back to the less fortunate of our town. We hope everyone will support this fundraiser, as your support directly benefits BWYC and its members, and tickets are only $20. Your ticket stub admits you and a guest to a cocktail party on Saturday, June 3rd where the winning ticket will be drawn. The next general meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary is Thursday, March 2nd at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you and appreciate your input. And remember, there s a prize at the end of the year for perfect attendance. If you haven t paid your dues yet for this year, please bring $25 to the next meeting. Our next luncheon is the Spring Fashion Show on Thursday, March 23rd. Be sure to get your reservations in early, as this is always a popular event. The menu is soup, taco salad and dessert. Please call the club for reservations and don t forget to alert the kitchen of any food allergies. There s always a lively crowd for cards and board games on Wednesdays from 2-5pm-come join us.
