1 NOVEMBER 2005 Volume 30 Issue 11 News from the Commodore Since I continue to work on the east coast I was unable to attend the Seamanship Race. I understand that it was a success and I would like to thank the Thayer s & Royer s for chairing the event. I did get a chance to visit the Plymouth Yacht Club. One of Liz s friends is a member. They have a number of burgees but not ours. I will propose at our next meeting that we send them one. (The only San Diego Club represented is Mission Bay) At our meeting on October 16, 2005 we elected our 2006 Officers and Directors. Congratulations are in order to our new leaders. Audrey has done a splendid job this year as your Vice Commodore. I am sure she will make us all proud as our Commodore next year. Thanks Audrey for your support to me personally and for your hard work on behalf of the club. On November 12 th we will host the OORAH Regatta. Navy Yacht Club San Diego is out for revenge. Let us disappoint them. It is hard to believe that Christmas season is here again. Our Christmas Party is going to be held at Sharky s Camp Del Mar. It is a great event and the highlight of the year. Please join us. Jim Murtland FROM THE VICE COMMODORE SMYC HAS HAD THEIR GENERAL MEETING WITH AN ELECTION FOR YOUR 2006 OFFICERS. I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH THE CLUB FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND WITH YOUR HELP I WILL REPRESENT THE CLUB IN 2006 AS YOUR COMMODORE. I DO NEED A FAVOR THOUGH, IN ORDER TO DO A GOOD JOB FOR YOUR CLUB I WILL NEED YOUR HELP. WE DO HAVE OUR DIRECTORS, AND SOME HAVE SERVED BEFORE AND WITH THE NEW ADDITIONS THEY WILL DO A GREAT JOB, BUT, WE NEED MORE MEMBERS TO STEP UP TO SERVE AND HELP MAKE THE NEXT YEAR AS SUCCESSFUL AS 2005 HAS BEEN. WE WANT YOU TO TAKE A BIGGER PART IN YOUR CLUB. CHECK YOUR DIRECTORY AND SEE IF THERE IS ANY COMMITTEE YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK ON WITH YOUR FELLOW MEMBERS AND FRIENDS. LET S ENJOY WHAT WE ALL JOINED SMYC FOR TO BE WITH FRIENDS, CRUISING, RACING AND ENJOYING THE LOVELY WEATHER WE HAVE HERE IN NORTH COUNTY. IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN PLEASE LET ONE OF US KNOW AND WE CAN PUT IT ON OUR AGENDA AT OUR NEXT BOARD MEETING IN NOVEMBER. I WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING YOU AT OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY AND INSTALLATION OF 2006 OFFICERS AND DO HOPE YOU WILL BE ONE OF THEM. FAIR WINDS...AUDREY HALL OORAH! REGATTA Oorah Regatta, our second annual race is coming up on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2005! The action starts at 12:30P. M. This is a great way to share our love of sailing with our 3 sister Naval Sailing Association Yacht Clubs in the Southern CA area. The Race is in front of our Clubhouse and we get to show off our brand new Deck. A maximum of two, two person teams from each Club sailing the Capri 16.5's. The Marina has 8 Capris and we have them for the day. The teams will show up and have some juices, coffee, and bagels. The teams will get their Boats ready, a little practice and then a Race Committee meeting. There will be 4 races in the Del mar Basin for us all to see. Afterward something to eat for all. If you are coming we need to know. This is a volunteer Club so some help from you would be great. Then the OORAH! Regatta Trophy to be given out to the winner (hope it s SMYC). It will be a good day for the racers and spectators. Hope to see you there. Bill and Marybeth Thayer OORAH! Race Chairpersons
