10 FAITH, GIVING & THANKS Voyager Chapel Pastor s Corner It s January The Perfect Time To Start Something New! 2018 is now in the rearview mirror and a brand new calendar is unfolding right in front of your eyes. What a perfect time to start something new. Perhaps you are new to Voyager. If so, welcome! A new community of friends and activities is just outside your door. Or maybe you ve finally made your way back home to Voyager after the Holiday season, and you re ready to tackle a new class, or new sport, or new hobby. Whatever it is that you re filling your New Year calendar with, I hope you ll add the Voyager Community Chapel to your Sunday schedule each week at 9:30 am in the Ballroom. Each Sunday our time together features the singing of favorite hymns, special instrumental and vocal musical presentations, our grand Chapel Choir, and a time of study and challenge from the Word of God. January 6 we ll be considering Where Do You Want to Go in 2019, and on the 13th we ll be starting a series of messages taken from the famous Lord s Prayer. We all know that attending church is good for your spiritual well-being, but did you know you should attend for Safety s Sake? Don t ride in cars they cause 20% of all fatal accidents; Don t stay home 17% of all accidents occur in your house; Don t walk on the streets or sidewalks 14% of all accidents happen to pedestrians; Don t travel by air, rail, or water 6% of all accidents happen on these; BUT only.001% of all deaths occur in church it s the safest place on earth! 11 ARTS & CRAFTS ACTIVITY UPDATES MUSIC BUSY HANDS After a successful Holiday Bazaar in December, we enter the New Year with plenty of projects for our many charitable organizations. Donations of cash or materials are always welcome. Join us Tuesday or Friday mornings. NIMBLE FINGERS December proved to be another busy month for Nimble Fingers. We participated in the Voyager Holiday Bazaar, assisted with making over 170 blankets for the Salvation Army Toy Drive and continued to make several items for our local charitable organizations. Thanks to all who participated in our December Market Daze raffle. The winners were: Jan Tuttle - placemats; Carol Cantrell - tote; Glenda Dean - hat and scarf; Alice Kelly - child s sweater; Sandy Zundel - baby blanket; Sue Chamberlain - quilted throw; Paula Rich - poncho; Joyce Burlog - doll sweater. Handouts included in the price. BELLE TONES The Belle Tones women s barbershop chorus is looking for new members who love to sing, even if you don't read music. Lower voices are especially needed. The first rehearsal for our spring show on March 18 is Tuesday, January 8 at 1:00 PM in Catalina Room. HANDBELL CHOIR The Voyager Handbell Choir meets Mondays from 1:00 to 2:30 PM in the Arizona Room. Beginner Lessons are offered every Monday from 3 to 4 PM in the Arizona Room. Sign up on the Activity Board. SHOW CHOIR Songs from Les Miz, Guys and Dolls, Blue Moon, Mockingbird and A Country Medley are among the selections for this season s Show Choir. If you like to sing, join us in the Arizona Room at 9 AM on Mondays. Call Director Jay Treat at for details. RUSTY WINDS Get out your trumpet, saxophone, flute, violin, trombone, drum, French horn, or whatever, and join Rusty Winds for an evening of fun making music together. Our only goal is to have fun! When we sound great well that s just another plus, but isn t a requirement. We re not trying to impress anyone and do not worry about missed notes or lips that don t work so well anymore. Playing by ear is OK or use our easy books. Several local stores rent instruments for $10 to $20 per month. We meet weekly in the Catalina Room Sundays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Our next jam session is Sunday, January 6. Questions? SPORTS SHUFFLEBOARD NEWS At the December Katherine Mumm Yuletide Mixed Doubles Tournament held at Rincon West, Voyager Shufflers winning trophies in the Championship Division were: Peter & Cheryl Palko, 2nd Place; Ken Bone and his partner from Far Horizons East, 4th place. Dick White & his partner from Copper Crest placed 2nd in the Consolation Division. BILLIARDS NEWS At our December 15 8-Ball tournament we had 13 players. The winner was Preston Wilson, determined by playing extra games; second place went to Barry Billingsley, and third went to Phil Carpenter. Our next tournament is 9-Ball on January 2.
