11 VOYAGER NEWS A NOTE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER This month I have just one item I d like to focus on, a hot topic around the Resort, - PETS!! First of all, let me clear up a miscommunication that occurred at Coffee while I was away on holiday vacation. Pets are NOT allowed everywhere on Voyager property that people are allowed. Only service animals are allowed on all properties. A Service Animal, by law, is trained to provide a service to its owner. If we ask you to remove your pet from a nonpet area, we have the legal right to ask you, and we will, what service the animal is trained to provide. All other pets are limited to pet sections only. The Voyager Map outlines those areas; it is available in the Voyager Map Book available at Registration and on our website at Secondly, we are in the process of painting 5th and 7th streets at 50th and again at Quail as a reminder that pets should not be taken down those streets. If you have a pet in the non-pet section and a non-pet resident approaches you, please acquiesce and remove your pet as quickly as possible. People have moved into the non-pet section for several reasons, including allergies and other medical issues. They shouldn t feel belittled for asking a pet owner to remove a pet from an area in which the pet doesn t belong. If you are walking a service pet, and a resident approaches you, please just let them know it is a service animal. If you are the resident approaching and the owner tells you it s a service animal, please don t escalate the issue. A service pet has every right to be anywhere with it s owner. Finally, the issue of pet versus non-pet areas isn t going away. If both pet owners and non-pet owners would be less defensive when encountering the other, our lives would be much easier. Confrontations will only lead to worse encounters. We are all grown, mature adults who have much bigger issues to deal with than having to go around the non-pet section with our pets. Thank you all, both pet owners and non-pet owners for keeping Pet Peace at Voyager RV Resort. Have an enjoyable and active month! Regards, Rick Tubaugh, General Manager WE NEED YOU! If you have some spare time and want something to do. please consider volunteering here at Voyager! Many of the events and activities here would not be possible without our volunteers. The Kitchen is a big part of Activities here at Voyager. If you are interested in joining this fun-loving team please stop by the Activity Office. We always need extra help setting up tables and chairs for our many events - sign up on the Activity Board. If you attend our monthly dances, please consider helping out - speak with Pam in the Activity Office If you d like to help sorting and distributing mail, stop by the Mailroom and speak with Thoni. Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. Unknown NEW VOYAGER RESIDENTS! We are happy to welcome the following new annual residents to Voyager. Evan & Pamela Downs OR Donna & Art Herrera AZ Danny Klaus V-259 OR Geneva Johnson AZ Brenda & Ronald Sorrell NC A big thank you to everyone who made the January Dinner Show a success! Thank you to Linda Needham for baking the 17 Texas Sheet Cakes! They were so yummy! Thank you to Don and Mary for all of your experience with guiding me through the planning and preparation of such an undertaking. Thank you all of the other 38 volunteers who prepped, cooked, and served our 320 guests. Thank you to my Activity Office staff who also helped and were right by my side the whole time. You all are awesome and I know everyone had an enjoyable evening! Debby Mitchell VOYAGER COMPASS 11 FEBRUARY 2018

12 FAITH, GIVING, AND THANKS THE CHAPLAIN S CORNER HEARTS AND FLOWERS, AND DUST AND ASHES? Every once in a while, the calendars I use give me fits. February 14 is a good example. Every regular calendar I see says it is Valentine's Day, the day for romance. Ah, hearts and flowers. However, the liturgical calendar says February 14 is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Penitence and preparation? But take a closer look with me. Valentine's Day originated in 496 AD, a day in which the early church honored Valentine, a Christian priest who lived in Rome during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Valentine was known for helping young Christian couples to be married, and also for helping persecuted Christians to escape. He was arrested, persecuted and martyred February 14, 269. He is the patron saint of engaged couples, beekeepers, happy marriages, lovers, travelers, young people, and greetings. Thus hearts and flowers, So you see it isn't just hearts and flowers. Any happily married couple will also say a happy marriage includes honesty, repentance, forgiveness, commitment and renewal. Lent is a season that encourages all of these areas. So these two holidays really do mesh after all. They both emphasize loving and being loved. Isn t that what makes the world go around? Ray Burgess, Chaplain SUNDAY CHAPEL SERVICES 9:40 AM in the Ballroom Interdenominational Everyone is welcome! We hope he or she will be able to count on you for your continued support both through your hard work and generous donations. Mary Lou Wilton, Toy Drive and Book Bonanza Coordinator NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR Sandy Farone (B) # Jane Kenworthy (V) # Jean Cary (C) # If you are or know of someone in need, give us a call! Neighbor to Neighbor is a group of about 75 terrific volunteers who help other Voyager residents in need. We match a person in need with someone who is able to meet that need. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, pick up an application in the Activity Office. Call Jane Kenworthy at for more info. Want to Help? In addition to matching need to helper, Neighbor to Neighbor keeps a list of resident care-givers, housecleaners, dog-walkers, dog-sitters and ride-providers. These are longer term, paid individuals who want to help other Voyager residents. If you are interested in being on this list, call Jane Kenworthy at # Grief Support Grief is a journey - each journey is different. In this group, we give ourselves and others permission to grieve at our own pace, with grace, acceptance, compassion, and kindness. We meet Sundays, February 4th & 18th from 2-4 pm in the Cactus Room. All are welcome. Community Cares Are you living alone, ill, injured, or fragile and would appreciate a FREE daily check for health and safety? If the answer is yes, the Community Cares Program can meet that need. Volunteers will check each day; if the display is correct, they will continue on their way.
