12 VOYAGER NEWS A Note from the General Manager... A couple of reminders: First, The Cove is a separate Community from Voyager and The Bay, so please do not use the Cove as a means of cutting through to the Bay and vice versa. If you are visiting somebody in the Cove, by all means drive over and have a great time, but if you are just passing through to the golf course, the trash area, the Bay or Voyager, please use Voyager and Bay streets. Secondly, if you have not purchased your tickets to this year s concerts, I d advise you to do so.quickly. We have had record sales on tickets this year and there is limited availability left, so don t walk.run to the Activity Office to purchase the shows you want to attend this season. I m sure you have seen the increased activity at Blanche Softball Field. Our guys are now playing their league home games at Voyager. They ll be playing multiple Thursdays throughout the season and will be practicing a couple times a week as well, so if you haven t seen them play, head on over and take in a ballgame!! If you haven t seen the newly expanded Woodshop yet, swing by and check it out. Thanks to the Woodshop guys for the work they put in to the expansion. It is something they have been asking for (at least since I ve been here) for safety reasons, and I m glad we could finally get the funding to make it happen. Thanks to Mary Beth of Journeys Health Clinic for being so agreeable in relocating so we could make this happen!!! As we head into February, it s time for our RV guests to think about next season, which means it s getting close to Early Bird booking time. Watch for flyers and banners announcing the Early Bird dates. I would love to see all our RVers rebook for next season AND bring an RV friend. Don t forget the bonus you receive for referring a friend.an easy $50 for each new Voyager referred RVer that stays 30 days or longer. Have a great February!! Regards, Rick Voyager Gift Cards are back and now available for purchase and redemption at the Activity Office, the Bar & Grill, the Market, and the Pro Shop - any amount, any occasion! 19 FAITH, GIVING, AND THANKS The Chaplain s Corner February - The Month of Promise Some people look at February as the month of romance, with Valentine's Day and all the flowers and engagement rings. While I know about the flowers and candy bit, I believe that February is the month of promise. Promise, not promises. Promise to me means potential. If we say that a certain collegiate football player is having a good year, his coaches would say he shows promise. The same is often said for budding musicians or children who show talent as writers. They all have promise. I believe February is the time of year when winter begins to show the promise of spring, The sure sign for us in Michigan is the sugar maple trees have sap beginning to run, and soon the maple sugar industry is marketing this year's maple syrup. Mind you, this all takes place without any outward sign on the trees, only a warming trend in the air even with a foot of snow on the ground. I believe also that February helps me to look at where I am in realizing the promise God gave me. I have potential I have not yet developed, a healthier outlook on life that God wants me to uncover and use. So do you. That is true no matter how old we are. That is where the other use of the word promise comes into play. When I find another skill that God has given me, I have to promise myself and others that I will find the time and energy, even the sacrifice, necessary to make the promise realized. Then I need to keep the promises I make that helps me realize the promise I discovered. This may all sound a bit weird, but think of it this way. We all have the potential for a full life in faith, but it takes us making and keeping promises to do what it takes to have that promise come true. We'd love to have you come to chapel and join with others who are working on their growth in faith. See you in chapel? Promise? Ray W. Burgess, Chaplain SUNDAY CHAPEL SERVICES 9:40 AM in the Ballroom, Interdenominational Everyone is welcome! Chaplain Ray Burgess Grief Support Group Grief is a journey - each journey is different. In this group, we give ourselves and others permission to grieve at our own pace, with grace, acceptance, compassion, and kindness. Voyager s Grief Support Group meets Sundays, February 5 & 19 from 2-4 pm in the Cactus Room. All are welcome. A Celebration of Life for Bill Beaufait Saturday, February pm in the Catalina Room Bill loved Voyager. Come and share your memories. A light lunch will be served. 22 ACTIVITY UPDATES ARTS & CRAFTS BUSY HANDS We ve had many busy hands this season. From May through December, we have donated about 700 items to local charities, including blankets, afghans, lapghans, hats, gloves, placemats, ditty bags filled with personal hygiene items, and pet beds, blankets and tug toys. We appreciate your generous donations. We still need yarn and fabric, even remnants and small quantities, as well as plastic bags. Bring donations to the Palo Verde Room any Tuesday or Friday from 9 AM - 12 Noon, or just join us for a fun and rewarding time helping those in need. Hope to see you there. NIMBLE FINGERS The Nimble Fingers annual drive for new underwear and socks for the children in AVIVA Children's Services Foster Care occurs each February. Currently there are more than 4,500 children in Pima County in this program who really need your help. They often only have the clothes on their backs when taken into the program. Many have never had new socks and underwear, only hand-me-downs. When shopping, pick up underwear or socks, any size infant to teen, or donate cash and we will shop for you. Bring donations to our Monday or Friday meetings, 1:00-3:30 PM in the Palo Verde Room, enjoy "show and tell" around 3:00 PM and have a cup of tea! Get involved - you can help sew tote bags & pajamas for Shriners hospital patients, knit hats & scarves for homeless teens, or crochet afghans for nursing homes & the VA. Donations of yarn, fabric, or dollars to help purchase supplies are always welcome. QUILTERS 1 A huge thank you to all the wonderful Quilters 1 (and a few from Quilters 2) volunteers for making our annual Quilters 1 Show & Sale a great success! Congratulations to our Raffle Winners: Casserole Carrier - Sue Pierce; Christmas Table Runner - Joyce Burlog; Jar with Fat Quarters - Bridget Rubillard; Janna's Free Hair Cut - Judy Van Dam; Candle Holders - Elaine Vanier. Join us on Thursdays and Sundays at 1:00 PM in the Palo Verde Room, where you can learn the basics of quilting. Members will display a variety of traditional and contemporary bed quilts, wall hangings, wearable items, accessories and an array of Fiber Art hangings. Demos go on all day with quilters available to answer questions about techniques and the process of making a quilt from fabric to finish. Raffles with items donated by members, local quilt shops and businesses help support our charitable efforts throughout the year.
