5 VOYAGER NEWS A Note from the General Manager The season is just about behind us and as always, it flew by. Thank all of you for such a great season. It s come time for us to say farewell to the majority of residents and visitors for the summer. If you re traveling have a safe journey and a relaxing summer with friends and family. A BIG SHOUT OUT to all the volunteers at Voyager. A community this size could not continue to operate on the scale that is does without its volunteers. There are so many ways that people are able to and do volunteer. I thank each of you! Several projects are planned for this summer. We have approval for Phase III for replacing the Concentric Neutral Primary Electric lines throughout the resort. We also have approval to replace the main power supply source, known as the Switchgear. We will continue to follow behind the electrical work being done over the next four years since they are doing so much trenching. Additionally, we will be repairing and resealing all the streets in the Bay, along with some Voyager streets. A reminder that if you have address, phone or other contact information changes, let us know at the front desk prior to departing. Until the Fall that is All-- I m signing off until the next Compass in October! Regards, Rick NEW VOYAGER RESIDENTS! WE ARE HAPPY TO WELCOME THE FOLLOWING NEW ANNUAL RESIDENTS TO VOYAGER. 12 FAITH, GIVING, AND THANKS The Chaplain s Corner Voyager s chapel season ends with Easter Sunday. This year that is April 16, and then summer chapel takes over. Next season's Wednesday programs are already booked, and early bird reservations are on sale. Take a deep breath and enjoy this seasonal pause until Autumn. For some among us this really is the end of Voyager activities. Changes in plans can be as simple as wanting to travel. But, for others, changes in health means being near to family or moving to another living arrangement. Some are facing end of life questions, and that means difficult decisions have to be made. For all of you, whether your days are easy or difficult, whether your journey is anticipated or unexpected, let me say to you what my uncle used to say to me: Vaya con Dios. Go With God. May God's peace be with you. Ray W. Burgess, Chaplain SUNDAY CHAPEL SERVICES 9:40 AM in the Ballroom, beginning with a Hymn Sing Interdenominational Chapel Services Everyone is welcome! 13 FAITH, GIVING, AND THANKS COMMUNITY FOOD BANK If you are leaving for the season, please remember the CFB. If you stay, please remember CFB needs as you shop. Thank you in advance. Collection boxes are in the SW corner of the Ballroom. We need nonperishable items in non-glass containers, including peanut butter, cereal, rice, pasta, canned meat, tuna, veggies, fruit, tomatoes, beans, and soups. Voyager is well known for it's generosity! Thank you. If NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR Sandy Farone (B) # Jane Kenworthy (V) # Jean Cary (C) # If you are or know of someone in need, give us a call! Neighbor to Neighbor is a group of about 75 terrific volunteers who help other Voyager residents in need. We match a person in need with someone who is able to meet that need. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, pick up an application in the Activity Office. Call Jane Kenworthy at for more info. Want to Help? In addition to matching need to helper, Neighbor to Neighbor keeps a list of resident care-givers, housecleaners, dog-walkers, dog-sitters and ride-providers. These are longer term, paid individuals who want to help other Voyager residents. If you are interested in being on this list, call Jean Cary at # you know of someone in need of cheer, please contact one of the following, who will send a card: Bay Bouquet Sandy Farone # Cove Cares Phyllis Drinkwine # Voyager Sunshine Millie Paxton # Community Cares Are you living alone, ill, injured, or fragile and would appreciate a FREE daily check for health and safety? If the answer is yes, the Community Cares Program can meet that need. As a participant, you are given a set of cards illustrating days of the week. It will be your responsibility to display the correct day in your window before 10 each morning. Volunteers will check each day; if the display is correct, they will continue on their way. If not, you will receive a knock on your door, a phone call, or other instructions to confirm your health or safety is not in danger. Sign up as a Community Cares volunteer for the season by calling: Anne Ruelle # , Lynne Jensen # or Judy Williamson # We need you! ROTARY CLUB CHILDREN S FOOD DRIVE It has been brought to Cienega Rotary s attention that we need to help reduce the sugar intake of the back pack children. Therefore, we no longer need POP TARTS nor PUDDING CUPS. Sugar-free varieties of these will work. We continue to need our regular items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Instant oatmeal, fruit cups, pasta, canned meats, cup of soup, raisins, snack bars, juice boxes, boxed milk, etc. Donations can be delivered to Bay 47 carport or coffee on Saturdays. Cash donations or questions contact Mark at Thank you everyone who joined in the "Celebration of Life" for Bill Beaufait. It was a wonderful day. 14 ACTIVITY UPDATES ARTS & CRAFTS CERAMICS Beginning Monday, April 3, the Ceramics Shop will be open only from 1-4 pm except by special arrangement. For safekeeping, nothing should be left in the shop over the summer - please pick up any items ASAP. We have enjoyed a great season! Fun projects, fun patrons, and lots of items to choose from. If you have never tried Ceramics or haven't done it for years, come give us a try next year. You can be creative! NIMBLE FINGERS To date, we have distributed 3,168 handmade items to the worthwhile agencies we support. Our cupboards are full again and we will distribute these items soon. With your help, we gave a total of 786 new underwear and socks to the AVIVA foster care program. In addition, cash donations totaled 600+, which we will use to purchase additional needed sizes. Recently, many members made comfort toys for children. We are able to use every scrap of yarn for something. In addition to cancer hats, walker bags, tote bags and duffle bags and placemats, we make sundresses that can also be used as jumpers and pajama bottoms (we include a matching t-shirt with both). We couldn't do all this without the help of the generous folks at Voyager. You help make this all possible through your generous donations and support of our Market Daze raffles. Thank you to everyone. This year we added a couple of fun pot lucks, and went offsite for lunch first Fridays. We do meet year around, so drop by any Monday or Friday in the Palo Verde Room, between 1:00 and 3:30pm to find out how you can get involved, join in the fun, and see our members at work. QUILTERS 2 We are pleased to announce that so far this season Quilters 2 has donated 290 quilts to 14 charities. We held our 10 th Annual Quilt Show on February 27. Quilt Show Coordinators Barb Bickley, Lorraine Blas, Deb Galvin and Lynne Jensen thank the almost 500 visitors who came to the show. On display were 93 items - quilts as well as creative small items. A big thank you to the many volunteers who made it a success. Pat & Bud Davis and Diane Williams extend a big "thank you" to Voyager RV Resort, the many Tucson businesses, the various Voyager groups and the numerous quilters for their contributions to the Mini-Raffle.
