5 President s Ramblin s By Jim Richmond Many days in January were perfect for driving our Healeys. These were interrupted by a few very cold days (at least for South Texas). STAHC acvi- es during January consisted of meengs to layout our acvies for the rest of the year. Although it was mostly business we did have some Healey fun. The Ayers, Bordens, Millers and Richmonds travelled to the Hilton Waco in cool, rainy and foggy weather for a Conclave 2017 planning meeng. We met with representaves of the other two Texas Healey clubs to move forward with plans for this July 9 14 gathering of Healeys and Healey enthusiasts from all over North America. Conclave Chairperson Bonnie Ayer conducted the meeng. Many STAHC members are already involved with Conclave events including tech sessions. Mike Manser will conduct one tled Integrang Our Classic Cars into a World of Automated and Connected Vehicles and Lera Borden will lead another called T-Shirt Quilts. We need for all STAHC members to get involved. You can read more about these STAHC members and their tech sessions in the February Healey Marque. I am in charge of the Monday morning popularity car show in Waco and I will need volunteers to help park cars and count ballots, so let me know if you are willing to help. These tasks will not take much of your me. Bob! You can see the results of our planning else where in this Rumblins. We have provided a variety of events for you to parcipate in most months of the year. These events are for you so please parcipate in as many as you can. Remember, you do not need to drive a Healey to parcipate. If you would like to host an event such as a tour or rally that is not scheduled, please let me know. In other acon at this meeng, members approved the expenditure of $150 for prizes in the On the Road Again & Again in Your Healey driving contest. You can parcipate in this contest by yourself or with other members. Lynn McKinnie and Bob and Tina Adkins drove their Healeys to the Chamberlains home. The rest of us had to se6le for fun by installing the new tonneau cover on Bob Chamberlain s Healey. As in the last several years, Karen and I will host a Daytona 500 party on February 26 at our home (see page 9 for direc!ons). The party will feature the three Bs (Barbeque Beer and Beans) supplied by us, and snacks, sides and desserts supplied by you. Oh yes, the race will be on the TV and we will have the tradional drawing for win, place and show (each draw will cost $1). Many of us will watch the first and last lap and spend the rest of the me in the garage drinking beer and talking Healeys. So come whether or not you are a big NASCAR fan. Hope to see everyone on the 26th. Jim A week later, under a sunny sky with balmy temperatures, STAHC had its annual planning meeng for all of 2017 at the Wimberley home of the Chamberlains. Pam and Bob provided a delicious lunch before the meeng. Thank you Pam and 5

6 Editor s Ramblin s By Ron Borden A series begins next month tled: GeHng to Know You. We know each other s names, what kind of Healey(s) they have, whether it is running or not, and have a general idea of where they live. But for the most part that s about it. It would be nice to know a li6le bit more about each other such as where they were raised, profession, history with Healeys, etc. And what more fihng a start than to feature El Presidente, Jim Richmond! In the April issue we will get to know the Escrivas, Joy and Michael. ADer that... It may be you! Winter is upon us! And this month s Rumblin s is decorated in a winter mof. I know, it is hard to think about winter when the highs are in the 60 s and 70 s with a day or two of record high temperatures in the 80s. But we ve had a few morning lows in the teens, too. Otherwise the weather has terrific. Keep those fingers crossed that we connue with moderate temperatures unl spring is here to stay. As menoned in last month s Rumblin s I asked for winter related stories and/or pictures for this issue. Apparently most Healeys are put away for the winter (understandable). Since there were no other submissions I will relate a couple of my winter encounters while driving my 67 Sprite. (I had to look very deep in my old slides to come up with the picture at the top of the next column. And it is the only one I found.) In November of 1968 I was reassigned from a navy base in San Diego to one in Washington State. At the me I was a bachelor and the Sprite was my only car (and carried all of my worldly possessions). Enroute I drove through the Sequoia Naonal Park where this winter scene was photographed. Another winter memory driving my Sprite occurred in January While living in North Texas I had to drive to the D/FW airport very early one morning. The previous night we had had one of the area s infamous ice storms. To get to the airport I had to drive on a Farm-to-Market road. The roadway was so slick that I had to concentrate on staying exactly in the center of the road or, due to the crown, the car would start to slide toward the shoulder. Fortunately there was no traffic so I was able to creep along driving down the middle of the road and arrived safely but with jangled nerves. Stay warm and whenever possible, drop-the-top! 7 ON THE ROAD AGAIN & AGAIN IN YOUR HEALEY - A Healey Driving Contest - To encourage driving your Healeys, and to add even more fun to driving them (it s a blast just to drive one around the block isn t it!) the club has come up with a contest to accomplish just this.
