( The Club s Year In Review connued) February February 24, the birth of STAHC s newest member - Makayla Lutrick! February 26, Daytona 500 Party & BBQ at the Richmond s Many of us watched the first few and last few laps of the race and spent the rest of the me in the garage talking Healeys or on the porch vising with fellow club members. Joy Escriva, Tina Adkins, Doris Molina, Bonnie Ayer, & Lera Borden Standing: Michael Escriva, Lynn McKinnie, & Bob Adkins Seated: Karen Richmond, Joy Escriva, & Doris Molina When the checkered flag finally fell, the brisket was carved into slices and all the other food was laid out for our feast. A good me was had by all. In addion, great brisket, beans, and beer provided by Jim & Karen were enjoyed by all. March March 25, Tonneau Tech Session at the Adkins The Adkins and Miller s both had new tonneau covers for their big Healeys. The Adkins graciously had hot coffee, and donuts waing for the a9endees arrival. And what would a tech session be without sog drinks and cold beer?? Bre9 Miller and Bob Adkins are seen here test fikng the tonneau on the Adkins BT7. (Connued on p. 4) 3

(2017- The Club s Year In Review connued) Around lunch me Tina Adkins brought out a big plate with 3 flavors of egg rolls. The lightning speed with which they disappeared was tesmony to how delicious the egg rolls were. Thanks, Tina!! And thanks to both of you for the liquid refreshments and donuts. April April 8, Spring Highway Pickup A dozen intrepid individuals set forth to Blanco to rid Texas highways of trash. These courageous folk, Bob and Tina Adkins, D.J. and Pat Stamp, Lynn McKinnie, Ron Borden, Jeff and Denene Whitmore, Bonnie Ayer, Bre9 and Julie Miller, and their eagle-eyed grand-daughter Parker Gallaher, did ba9le with the wilds extracng myriad fragments of human living (actually it was a great weather day and easy pickin s). Sumptuous repast was had at Redbud Cafe on the town square as the stalwart companions regaled each other with tales true and otherwise. L-R: Ron Borden, Jeff Whitmore (kneeling), Bob Adkins, Lynn McKinnie, Tina Adkins, Pat Stamp, Denene Whitmore, DJ Stamp, Julie Miller with grand-daughter Parker Gallaher, Bre9 Miller, & Bonnie Ayer April 21-22, Roundup Anyway/2nd Conclave Planning Session Friday agernoon, four of the Healeys present decided to take a drive in the country outside Waco. We went north of Waco as far as Lake Whitney for a round trip of about 70 miles. The roads were scenic and the weather was warm almost hot! Just to uphold a longstanding Roundup tradion, winter returned on Saturday with a strong wind and a temperature that barely broke 60. That morning we had a planning meeng at which many of our plans and a list volunteers for several of the events were finalized. Club members that a9ended were: Bonnie and David Ayer, Bre9 and Julie Miller, & Jim Richmond. (Connued on p. 5) 4

( The Club s Year In Review connued) May May 13, STAHC Tour of the Hill Country The third me was the charm! We finally ran last year s tour, well half of it anyway (more later). The weather on Saturday, May 13, was perfect for a drive through the South Texas hill country on some of the best curvy roads in Texas. The tour started with several club members gathering for breakfast at Henry s Restaurant in San Marcos. Seated leg, front to back: David Ayer, Bonnie Ayer, Lynn Mckinnie, Karen Richmond Standing: Tina Adkins, Lera Borden, Jim Richmond Seated right, front to back: Bre9 Miller, Pam Chamberlain, Bob Chamberlain More joined in there ager breakfast for the scenic route from San Marcos, through Blanco, past our highway pickup area and on into Luckenbach where 3 more joined in. Hunger and thirst won the day so we cut out the final poron of the tour and headed down US 290 to the Pecan Street Brewing brew pub and restaurant. AGer lunch we all headed Healeys owned by, leg to right, front to back: McKinnies, Adkins, Millers, Chamberlains, Bordens home in different direcons. Thus, half of the tour remains to be run someme in the future. June June 17, Highway Pickup/Lake Party Spring in South Texas was wonderful for driving our Healeys. But, alas, summer has arrived with a vengeance and summer like highs in the 90s. That affected our turnout at the highway pickup on June 18 when only four STAHC members showed up. Jeff Whitmore, Tina and Bob Adkins and Jim Richmond covered at least half of our assigned road unl the heat got to be too much. (Connued on p. 6) Tina, Bob, and Jeff 5

(2017- The Club s Year In Review connued) The Adkins and Jim then headed out to the Kathy and Rick Borth s lake house on lake LBJ to cool off with Ron and Lera Borden, and the Lutricks. Ron and Lera drove their Sprite in spite of the heat. AGer lunch graciously served by our hosts, we went down to the lake where some went swimming. Thank you Kathy and Rick. July July 9-14, Conclave 2017 The most important Healey event for 2017 in North America took place in Waco, Texas. The North Texas AHC, Gulf Coast AHC and our club hosted Conclave STAHC members can be proud of their parcipa- on in this very successful event. Seventeen STAHC members a9ended Conclave and most helped with one or more of the events. Many of our members helped with preparaons before and with acvies at the event itself. Bonnie Ayer worked very hard as chairperson for Conclave. Mike Manser, unable to a9end due to work commitments, never the less conducted a very interesng tech session. Lera Borden conducted a tech session on quilng that was of parcular interest to the Ladies, and she contributed two very fine Healey-themed quilts to the auc- on. Many other STAHC members contributed to the success of Conclave in ways too numerous to men- on. (Connued on p. 7) 6

( The Club s Year In Review connued) August August 12, STAHC Ice Cream Social What be9er way to cool off than by having some ice cream in the shade of a huge old oak tree? OK, beer in the shade of an old oak tree would be right up there, or maybe swimming in Barton Springs, or but I digress. We met in Wimberley at the Wimberley Way for some Amy s Ice Creams. It was a 100+ degree day so few were brave enough to drive their Healeys (kudos to Lynn McKinnie for driving his - seen here). We managed to find enough seang under the oak trees to enjoy the ice cream and socialize - and there was a business meeng. Jaime and Doris Molina brought their grandchildren (Samantha and Marcelo). Also a9ending from the club were Jim and Karen Richmond, DJ and Pat Stamp, Bre9 and Julie Miller, Ron and Lera Borden, and Tina and Bob Adkins, and Bob s father, Bob Murkland. D,J. 9 ( The Club s Year In Review connued) October October 28, All Bri!sh Car Day, Boerne The 30th South Texas All Brish Car Day was held on a chilly and breezy day, but the skies were totally clear, blue, and sunny. Our club joined the combined club hill country tour set up by the Road Relics, the Central Texas Region affiliate of the Anque Automobile Club of America (AACA). The temperature was perfect for top-down driving, never mind a "frisky" breeze. Club members parcipang were: Eric Brown s Nasty Boy & Hawkins BN6 David Ayer Ron Borden Eric Brown Jack and Simina Hawkins Lynn McKinnie Bre9 and Julie Miller DJ and Pat Stamp (AACA members also - and organizers of the tour) (Connued on p. 10) 9

( The Club s Year In Review connued) December December 3, STAHC Annual Christmas-Holiday Party Dick s Classic Garage Car Museum, San Marcos, TX. The 2017 party was, as has been every year in the past, a huge hit for everyone in a9endance. The museum has some new addions along side many, many immaculate vintage cars. The desserts furnished by club members and the catered meal were enjoyed by all and disappeared quickly. The club business meeng consisted of reports by various commi9ee representaves, and elecon of officers. Then the famous/infamous gig exchange took place! A9endees were: Tina & Bob Adkins Ron Borden Kathy & Rick Borth Bob Brown & grand-daughter Makayla Lutrick Pam & Bob Chamberlain Jane & Jim Davidson Rita & John Eslinger Denise & Mark Homer Lynn McKinnie Doris & Jaime Molina Karen & Jim Richmond Karen & Gilbert Smith Pat & DJ Stamp We were honored by the presence of our very special guests, Anne & Alex Robertson, from Australia! 11 President s Ramblin s Happy 2018! By Jim Richmond 2017 has ended; 2018 has begun. It s me for STAHC to look back at 2017 and to plan ahead for the coming year. We had two major acvies last year, Conclave 2017 in Waco Texas last July and South Texas All Brish Car Day in October. We get an A for both events thanks to the efforts of many STAHC members. Space does not permit me to list all members that have helped our club with these events, however, I want to thank Bonnie Ayer for her outstanding work as Chairperson of Conclave 2017 and Lynn McKinnie for leading STABCD. And thanks to all STAHC members that helped make these two events outstanding. Looking ahead to 2018, STAHC has two major challenges. The first is to plan for Texas Healey Roundup Bob and Tina Adkins have agreed to head a commi9ee to find a me and place for this event and they will give a progress report at our planning meeng on January 20, later this month. Our second major challenge is to get more club members acve with STAHC this year. We have done a good job gekng new members for our club lets say a solid B thanks to contacts through our face book page, web site and rerees moving to South Texas from the frozen North. Thank you Jaime and Ron! Improvement is needed with our inacve club members. This is where all club members can help, those that are acve and those that we have not seen for a while. With the start of the New Year I have made the usual resoluons: eat be9er, exercise more etc. Success with these resoluons depends on me. I have also resolved to have inacve members become ac- ve. Unlike the earlier resoluons, success depends on all of our members, acve as well as inacve. If you are acve, adopt an inacve member, perhaps someone that you know and urge them to parcipate in one or more club acvies. If you haven t a9ended a club event in some me (or ever) resolve to take part in at least one event, perhaps our planning meeng at our house on Saturday, January 20. Like all of our events, driving your Healey is not required. The fact that your Healey is not working or it s too cold is not an excuse. The STAHC planning meeng for 2018 will start at 12:00 noon with a pizza lunch. Karen and I will provide the pizza and beer and you can bring a side dish, munchies or dessert. In addion to planning events for the year, we will discuss the pros and cons of forming two event planning wings, one for the Ausn area and one for San Antonio. We will also discuss ways of speeding up or eliminang the business poron of our December Holiday Party. About a week ago Karen and I received our membership renewal noce from AHCA. You should also have received yours. If not, please contact Mike Schneider at membership@healeyclub.org. Along with the noce was a reminder that the deadline is January 15. You must renew by that date to be sure that you will be included in the 2018 Membership Directory. You can send your renewal form check for $60 to: Tina Adkins at 950 Stagecoach Ranch Rd., Dripping Springs, TX or online at If you renew on line be sure to indicate that you are a member of South Texas AHC. Karen and I renewed our membership on line immediately ager receiving our no- ce in the mail. It took just a few minutes. Here s to another great year for STAHC! Jim 11

Editor s Ramblin s By Ron Borden A Happy New Year from me as well! Here s hoping 2018 sees many miles logged in our Healeys. And many more Healeys on the road. We welcome Tech Sessions to help you solve your mechanical issues and get them back in acon again. On December 16 Jim Richmond and I drove into northwest San Antonio to meet Armando Flores. He contacted us about a 1964 Sprite he had purchased. He was seeking guidance on what he has and what needs to be done. As it turns out he has a Mk. II with what could be, without a formal crossreference check, the original 1098 cc engine according to the engine number plate. A Weber carburetor has replaced the stock SU s, and it powers the rear wheels through a 5 speed transmission. The paint, as can be seen, is beauful - a metallic very dark green with silver striping. No sog top came with the car but a very nice removable hard top did with matching paint. Jim and I were favorably impressed with the car and suggested several items to be looked at. Armando showed interest in joining STAHC, so here s hoping he will be the first new member of As the Spanner Turns (Mini version) The gas tank on my Sprite has been dropped one more me in hopes of finally eliminang the gasoline smell caused by seepage through the sending unit into the depression where the unit is mounted on the tank. All the seals and screws have been coated with Hylomar sealer (thanks, Jim Richmond, for loaning me the sealer). As of New Year s Eve it has been driven but not with a full tank. Driving with a full tank will determine if it is fixed or not. Ron The tank showing the sending unit mounted in the depression Sealed and ready for service.
