2 2 Welcome Event Entry Circular #2 Welcome to the SLSNZ 2018 Pool Rescue Championships. This is the 2 nd Event Entry Circular for the SLSNZ 2018 Pool Rescue Championships. The previous Event Entry Circular and programme for this event can be found here on the SLSNZ web site. Please note that Event Entry Circulars provide important clarification of the event rules, and pursuant to section of the Surf Sports Competition Manual, are deemed to be incorporated into this event, and must therefore be read in conjunction with the SLSNZ Pool Competition Manual (Oct. 2017). 1. Entry Information Entries for the SLSNZ 2018 Pool Recue Championships are now closed. Late entries are not permitted except under exceptional circumstances. 2. Rule Clarifications Further to the Rule Clarifications in the first Event Entry Circular, the following rule clarifications should also be noted by all competitors, coaches and managers. Rescue Medley (50m and 100m) for all age groups. In keeping with the ILS rules, the intention of these events is that all competitors will remain underwater from the moment that they leave the end wall until they retrieve the brick or manikin from the bottom of the pool at 17.5m. Therefore competitors who surface prior to retrieving their brick or manikin will be disqualified from the race. However, athletes that surface prior to retrieving their brick or manikin may at their sole discretion, re-submerge and continue to retrieve their brick or manikin, then complete the race in order to further their skill development. These athletes should note their finish time immediately upon finishing, as their times will automatically be deleted once the disqualifications are processed. Line Throw Please note that no practice throws are permitted. Please refer to (a) which reads in part The start: On the first whistle, competitors step into the throw zone. The thrower holds one end of the throw line. The victim takes the line and enters the water. No practice throws are permitted, meaning any person throwing the rope to their victim prior to the acoustic signal will likely be disqualified. 3. Water Crew Thanks once again to Mirangi Bay and Mt Maunganui clubbies stepping in to provide water crew and divers. Thanks to their contributions, it is unlikely that any additional water crew will be required for this event. However, we recommend that clubs encourage a couple of willing and able supporters to be prepared should further assistance be required. Please have these individuals make themselves known to Mike Brown at the start of each session, just in case extra support is required. Volunteers should bring fins, wetsuit and goggles. 4. Break between Junior and Senior Programs Session 3 We expect that the Under 14 Obstacle Relays will conclude by 10 am. Immediately following this event we hope to open up the 50m pool for warm up by the senior competitors only. We strongly recommend that senior athletes ensure that they are ready to commence warm up by 9:45 am to make full use of the 50m pool as soon as it becomes available. However the obstacles will remain in place during this warm up. The 25m pool will remain open at all times for warm ups and warm downs only. 5. Revised Programme and Schedule of Heats Appendix One contains a revised programme of all events. This will continue to be revised up until the start of Session One as scratchings continue to be submitted. Only those competitors who submitted race times when registering have been placed in the seeded heats. The remaining competitors have been randomly allocated heats. Please do not request that a competitor s time be added at this late stage. Detailed below

3 3 is a summary of the session times only. Athletes are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to each session to avoid missing out on their races. Time Keepers Club time keepers are integral to the smooth operation of events. Detailed below are the Club Time Keepers Schedule for all sessions to which your club has been assigned. Please ensure that your club is aware of its obligations to provide time keepers and that they report to the Chief Time Keeper 20 minutes prior to the start of session to which they are assigned, so that racing can get underway promptly. Scratching and Team Changes All scratchings and team changes must be submitted as per the time frames stated below on the designated scratching form which are available on the SLSNZ web site and in your Team Managers Pack. As no shows cause considerable delays in marshaling and heat reorganising, a NO SHOW fee of $10 per athlete may be charged to clubs. 8. Online Programme and Results Results will be available live on the Surf Life Saving New Zealand App which is available free for Apple or Android devices via your play/app store.

If you are unable to be present for the medal presentations, and wish to have your medal/s sent to your club, you must advise the event admin desk outside the control room in advance of the medal presentations.
