2 Avon wins KESAB Small Town Award 2018 cont. from last newsletter The Avon Community has had another active year with a number of community events. As a result they have been recognised by the KESAB Small Town Awards 2018 receiving the following award: - Sustainable Communities Award Best Small Town 2018 AVON Congratulations to all those involved. 3 Port Wakefield CFS Cadets Training Preparing More hose required Supervisor instructs On the 16th of October 2018, Port Wakefield CFS Cadets conducted a burn-off at the golf course. This training event gave the cadets valuable experience of the fire ground under controlled conditions. We set the fire alight after the cadets and supervisors had checked the perimeter and the local conditions to make sure the burn could be conducted safely and without risk. Once the initial high fuel load dissipated, the cadets were able the black out the fire using water and foam. From all appearances, the cadets enjoyed the experience and had a great time putting some of their training into practice. Well done to all who attended and gave it a go. For those interested in fire season dates Cadets are held fortnightly on Tuesdays, and the next training night is 30th October. Look forward to seeing you there.
