We are preparing for our combined concert with the Bloomington/Normal community Band at Miller Park Pavilion. There are many 6-8 band students preparing for the ILMEA Auditions coming up in October. The 8th grade band had a great time performing with the Normal West football band and enjoyed a great performance from the Normal Marching Band. Cookie Dough Fundraiser Delivery comes in Tuesday, Sept. 25th Dine to Donate Potbelly Normal Location on Tuesday, Sept. 25th I have been contacted by an elementary school principal and have been asked to supply a method book for 3 girls (a set of triplets) that cannot afford one. I have asked music parents for help in purchasing that for the students at need and was rejected. They did however tell me that someone would donate those books for the girls. I have not yet received them and the girls are hoping they will arrive soon. Please let me know what I can do to get those books as soon as possible. Parkside Junior High Orchestra: Dawn Holliger (Representative) Angie Stalter (Director) It s ILMEA season we have shared concerts coming up. Speghetti Supper on the 11/5 will have a Harry Potter theme. They will be dressed in black and it is scheduled for 6:00(ish). Parkside Junior High Choir: Katie Bruton (Director) No Report. In addition, NCHS has 45 students auditioning for the ILMEA District Festival on October 8.
4 Coming up in December will be the Holiday Concert on December 11 th. We just had a Dine to Donate on the 18 th at Gill Street as well as a cheesecake fundraiser. Normal Community High School Orchestra: Roy Guzman (Representative) Melissa Seibenthal (Director) Oct. 25 th is the Hauncert. Several were trying out for ILMEA but no exact number was provided. Normal Community High School Choir: Jill Enchelmayer (Representative) Ben Luginbuhl (Director) Our Fall Concert is coming up this Monday, October 1 at 7 pm in the NCHS Auditorium. It will feature our 5 curricular choirs as well as our a cappella groups, Voice Male and Key of She. We're also going to be attempting a live stream of the concert on our Facebook page, Iron Choirs. The combined choirs will be singing the national anthem at the NCHS Homecoming game on Friday, October 8. Choir spirit wear is available for anyone interested. Our online store is open through October 12. Those interested can find the ordering link on our website, ILMEA Auditions are on October 8. We have close to 40 singers auditioning. Best of luck to all! Court Singers and Chamber Singers enjoyed a day of singing and bonding time at their retreat last Saturday. The madrigal dinners are November 30 & December 1...tickets will go on sale to the public in early November. I have found 2 parents who are willing to shadow the orchestra parents and run the Spaghetti Supper for the next 2 years. Special thanks to Jennifer Speicker and Renee Heath for volunteering! *****NORMAL COMMUNITY WEST HIGH SCHOOL ***** Normal Community West High School Band: Lisa Albaugh (Representative) Lisa Preston (Director) Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Saxophone Ensemble, and Chamber Winds performed the first concert at Ewing Manor on Monday, Sept 24. The rest of the concert bands will be performing at the Spaghetti Supper. The bands are currently selling cheesecake. Several students will be auditioning for ILMEA. Normal Community West High School Orchestra: Laura Memmer (Representative) Kimberly Martin-Boyd (Director) We are deep in planning for our Annual Hauntcert, it is on Thursday October 25th at 7 p.m., performances will be held at both high schools. Please promote this with families, it is a family friend event and children are encouraged to wear their costumes to win prizes. We are playing space and flight themed music. Last night we had a dine to donate event at Gill Street and next month we will have one at Jason's Deli, although they don't bring in a lot of money they are helping with small expenses that we can't cover through building and MP budget. We had several students attend an ILMEA prep workshop at ISU this past weekend with the ISU string Staff and Dr. Block, I received many compliments afterwards about how professional and
5 prepared our students were. Dr. Block asked when he could come back to work with them and then asked that we headline their high school orchestra festival in the spring. We will have 15 students auditioning for district ILMEA festival on October 8th at Bloomington High School. Normal Community West High School Choir: Cheri Lynn Oakley (Representative) Sara Williams (Director) The Normal West choirs are off to a fantastic start of the year. There are many students in the ensembles and we are already preparing for their first performance of the year. The Fall Choir Concert is October 11th at 7:30 pm in the NCWHS Auditorium. We are working on organizing and fitting uniforms, working on our tonal skills for the upcoming ILMEA Auditions on Columbus Day, and working on our music for the Fall Concert. The extra-curricular ensembles are in full swing! We are starting our fifth rehearsals this week. The auditions went well and the groups are already sounding great. Homecoming Week was a success. The choirs combined and performed the National Anthem at the Homecoming Assembly. We were excited to be part of the tapestry of the week s events and perform for our peers. The choirs will be kicking off their annual Un-raiser a donation based program. We welcome and appreciate all of the support our families give us! A mailing was sent to all of the homes of the choir students. We are also doing a brochure sale through Century Resources for the families that prefer to sell items instead of donating. *****NORMAL MARCHING BAND ***** Normal Marching Band (NMB) Kelli Halsey (Representative) Multiple Directors (Lance, Lisa and Ryan) The NMB will be hosting our marching band invitational on Sept. 29th at IWU.
