1 The Bryneven Bulletin Vol 21 No 7 August 2017 School Communication copy: For the information of our Parents, the Bulletin will be ed to all our Parents on the mailing list. School Website: Please refer to the school website for copies of the newsletters - School Communicator: Regular communication will now be provided via the Bryneven School Communicator (D6). Please ensure that you have loaded this very useful tool which will be our primary form of communication in future. Welcome back We hope that all our families have had a wonderful break and are ready for this extremely busy term. We certainly have a bumper issue of the newsletter (6 pages) this month, as we share all the exciting events and achievements of our Bryneven community. 50 Not Out Next year 2018 Bryneven will be celebrating 50 years of outstanding delivery of education to the boys and girls of the community. We plan to host certain events in recognition of this achievement. We humbly appeal to any parents (or if you know of past parents) who may have photos of any events held at Bryneven Primary School from years gone by. Kindly these to us at photos@bryneven.co.za with the year and event, where the photo was taken. Condolences Our thoughts are with Robert Gradie (7B) and Tiegan Foley (6C) and their families on the passing of their Grandmothers. School tours GRADE 4-7 The details for the school tours this year are as follows: Grade Date Destination Grade 4 30 August 1 September Klein Kariba Grade 5 29 August 1 September Drakensville Grade 6 28 August 1 September Camp Discovery - Limpopo Grade 7 28 August 1 September Shakaland - KwaZulu Natal Further information can be found on the D6 Communicator. Mandela Day On Thursday, 27 July, Bryneven learners, parents and staff participated in the 67 minutes for Mandela Day. The Foundation Phase learners made sandwiches and the Intersen Phase made goodie bags. These items were delivered to a very grateful Sefikeng Primary. Thank you to all that participated.
2 IT Update Bryneven is excited to announce the introduction of Purple Mash. Purple Mash is an award winning web based educational tool which allows learners to increase their IT knowledge, while at the same time having fun. Purple Mash has the added advantage of being able to link to the CAPS curriculum, further adding to its advantage. One of the main atttractions is the ability of our learners learning how to write a computer program (coding). Please visit the the following website to learn more about Purple Mash - Staff Update Bryneven would like to take this opportunity to welcome and congratulate our new Department Head (HOD) of the Intersen Phase Ms Charlene Kotze. It is with much sadness that we have to say goodbye to Mrs Mangray. We congratulate her on her promotion to Department Head (HOD) of the Foundation Phase for Bryandale Primary. She has really proved herself in the short time that she has been with us and we thank her for her tireless efforts, both in the classroom as a teacher and on the sports field, and as Acting Department Head during Mrs Hughes maternity leave. We wish you everything of the best in your new role. Extramurals Rugby This year marked the first year that Bryneven Primary School competed in the Schools Rugby League. After the round robin section, our Under 9 team competed in the knockout stages, where they played some dynamic rugby and managed to make the District Finals, beating Westgold in the Semi-Finals. They promptly then beat Millennium in the final to be crowned the U9 Golden Lions Winners, a fantastic achievement (and a first for Bryneven)! Well done to all the players, as well as the coaches and parents for their contribution to this wonderful achievement (a collage of the team is on the final page of the Newsletter). Soccer Jordan Cilliers (7A) represented Southerns, the Gauteng A team in the National Primary School Soccer tournament during the holidays and his team won the National Trophy. Well done to Ethan Bleksley (4A) and Kevin Bradbury (4B) who were both selected for the U10 Rand Central District Soccer Team over the school holidays. Joburg KO Cup This week our Under 9 soccer team managed to advance to the Semi-Final of the Joburg KO Cup via a walk over from Risidale Primary. Our Under 10 and Under 11 teams both lost to Crawford Sandton. Our Under 11 Girls team played their Quarter-Final match yesterday at Sacred Heart College but lost the match in the last few minutes.
