5 BERGSTROM STATELINE QUIZ BOWL RETURNS OCTOBER 15 Popular Half-Hour Television Show to Air for 32-straight Weeks ROCKFORD, Illinois (October 12, 2016) Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl is back! The popular half-hour television show kicks off its 32-week-run with a Season Three Preview show Saturday, October 15, at 6:30pm on WTVO Channel 17 and Sunday, October 16, at 9:30pm on WQRF FOX 39. Gameplay begins October 22 when back-to-back Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl champions Auburn High School square off against NIC-10 rival Rockford East High School. Eyewitness News anchor Eric Wilson will serve as the show s host, testing the knowledge of an estimate 270 students from 32 local high schools. WTVO/WQRF created the Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl to increase awareness of the importance of education in Northern Illinois and to highlight, challenge and reward the community s best and brightest students. All the teams participating will compete for the chance to win tens-ofthousands of dollars in scholarships to Northern Illinois University. As we enter Season Three, the show continues to grow in scope and interest among viewers and the business community, says Kelly Lattimer, VP/General Manager of WQRF-TV, which provides services to WTVO-17 and produced the program. Regardless of whether people have kids in school or not, they are watching and playing along every week. We ve even heard people are having viewing parties. Creating good content that connects and resonates with viewers matters greatly to us as broadcasters serving a local community, especially at a time when people can get whatever they want, whenever they want, wherever they want. It proves that people will still tune in to watch locallyoriginated programming that offers value to the viewer and business owner. And this show is doing exactly that. The show would not be possible without the continued support from partners Bergstrom Inc. and Northern Illinois University as well as other local sponsors committed to improving educational opportunities for students in the Stateline area. Bergstrom Inc., a Rockford-based global company and leading designer/manufacturer of cab climate systems for commercial trucks, off-highway machines, military and other specialty vehicles signed on as the title sponsor of the Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl prior to the first season and is excited about the future of the show. Paw Paw will be on the following times on the listed stations: Dec. 24th 6:30 p.m. WTVO-channel 17; Dec. 25th Sunday 8:30 a.m. Rockford s My TV Sunday 9:30 p.m. on channel WQRF-39 Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl will air three times per week: WTVO-17: Saturdays at 6:30pm WQRF-39: Sundays at 9:30pm MyNetworkTV-17.2: Sundays at 8:30am

7 Pink Night October 13th PPHS Volleyball Team hosted their 6th Annual Pink Night on October 13th. ACTS Booster group planned and ran the event on behalf of the team. The event was a huge success thanks to the players, volunteers, students, teachers and community involvement. The evening started with our Basket Raffle sales at 5:15. We had 22 baskets donated from the community businesses and 2 businesses provided cash donations. Our donors ranged from local businesses to our High School classes and groups. The baskets were amazing and brought in a large part of the overall funds raised. We sold t-shirts and sugar cookies in the shape of a Pink Ribbon during the event, as well. Around 5:30, the introduction of the survivors began. We had four that joined us for the evening. We completed introductions of our special guests and they joined the team introduction for the JV game before settling in to watch the match. During the match we invited our spectators to write on the Honor Wall that the K-12 Art classes created with the guidance of Mrs. Surges, Art Teacher. The Honor Wall received many compliments and when the special messages and additional names were added to it, it was inspiring to see. Senior Night was tucked into this time period to honor our two senior girls, Deona Collins and Ola Soto. We then moved into announcing who won the competition that we have every year amongst the volleyball players. This year they divided into two teams. The senior girls each captained a team and went head to head in a competition to see who could sell the most Pink Volleyballs. These are printed forms that the girls sell for $1 each and ask purchasers to write their name on them to show their support. The teams together sold $546. Team Deona was the winner of the competition with $326. The winning team will receive cookie cake, which was their choice of prize! After this announcement, the players lined up to present the survivors with a pink rose from each of them. The survivors were presented with 13 roses during the ceremony. After this touching presentation honoring our amazing survivors, the Varsity players were announced and the Survivors were able to be a part of the team and provide high fives and hugs! As the varsity match got underway, the winners of the baskets were pulled and very happy winners came out to the hallways to claim their prize. Overall for the event we are making a donation of $ to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for a Cure out of Chicago. This is the largest donation we have made in the six years the event has been going. ACTS would like to make special thanks to the teachers for their contribution, all the businesses, individuals, groups and classes that donated baskets this year. We were so pleased and grateful for the donations! The players role in the fundraising was very well done. And, of course, thank you to everyone who bought a raffle ticket, t-shirt or cookie! This was truly a community effort for a great cause.
