1 The Cnservatry f Theatre & Dance BFA Shwcase Cntract Infrmatin, Respnsibilities, & Deadlines ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS: T be cnsidered fr the BFA Shwcase, all students must: be full-time Theatre & Dance majrs in gd academic standing, wh have cmpleted n less than 91 credit hurs at the beginning f the spring semester; demnstrate the ability and intent t graduate n later than the end f the fllwing fall semester. BFA Acting, Musical Theatre, and BA in Theatre perfrmance students must enrll and earn an A in TH488 Senir Prtfli Class. Students n Prbatin in either the BFA r BA Prgram will nt be cnsidered fr inclusin in the BFA Shwcase. Students wh fail t meet the abve criteria will be remved frm the Shwcase Ensemble at any time during the year. T be cnsidered fr the NYC r LA Shwcases r Dance Shwcase Master Classes, as well as URTA, UPTA, USITT, r Other Apprved Jb Placement Event fr Designers, qualified students must have fully participated in the Cape Girardeau Shwcase. The NYC and LA Shwcases, presented in cnjunctin with the Actrs Cnnectin NYC & LA, are specifically fr select theatre majrs (BFA in Acting; BFA in Musical Theatre; BA in Theatre with a perfrmance emphasis). The Dance Shwcase Master Classes, presented thrughut the year at the River Campus with varius cntracted utside prfessinals, are specifically fr select dance majrs (BFA r BA in Dance). U/RTA Graduate Schl Interviews, UPTA and USITT, as well as ther apprved trips fr Pst-Graduate Jb Placement Events, are specifically fr select theatre majrs (BFA in Design/Technlgy; BA in Theatre with a design/technical emphasis). PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: T be cnsidered fr the NYC & LA Shwcases, the Dance Shwcase Master Classes, and participatin in U/RTA, USITT, & UPTA interviews, academically qualified Theatre & Dance majrs must: SUBMIT THE SIGNED AGREEMENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS DOCUMENT befre Octber 1 st.

ACTING & MUSICAL THEATRE MUST DEMONSTRATE INTENTION TO MOVE TO NYC r LA t pursue a career in the arts/entertainment industry in their business plan. DANCE MUST DEMONSTRATE INTENTION TO MOVE TO A MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREA t pursue a career in the arts/entertainment industry in their business plan. DESIGN/TECH MUST DEMONSTRATE INTENTION t pursue a career in the arts/entertainment industry in their business plan. AUDITION AND PRESENT A PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO (Time/Lcatin TBD). Design/Tech Participants must prepare a prfessinally cmpetitive prtfli that meets the highest standards fr graduating senirs, as established by the design/tech faculty (see belw). Dance Participants may auditin ne r tw prfessinally prepared, riginal sl, duet, r grup dance numbers. A grup number will be chregraphed fr all dancers selected t shwcase during the spring semester by a visiting guest artist r faculty member. Acting & Musical Theatre Participants must auditin up t five minutes f prfessinally prepared mnlgues/sls frm plays, film/tv r musicals. Material will be selected by the student, but it must be apprved by the Shwcase Cmmittee. Material and the presentatin f the material must meet pstgraduate, prfessinal standards as determined by the Shwcase Cmmittee. Fr all Participants, the Shwcase Cmmittee will select pieces fr each participant t perfrm in the BFA Shwcase. Fr Acting & Musical Theatre, the cmmittee may chse t select pieces f the BFA Extravaganza shwcase t be presented at either the NYC r LA Shwcase.

6 Theatre & Dance BFA Shwcase Cntract 6 IMPORTANT NOTES What was previusly knwn as the The Cape Girardeau Shwcase is nw The BFA Shwcase and will be presented/merged with The Extravaganza. ALL BFAs (Freshmen, Sphmres, Junirs and Senirs tgether) will wrk in cnjunctin with each ther, the faculty, and the T&D Sciety n the Extravaganza and the Taste f Cape Restaurant Hp. (Duties and details will be assigned in accrdance t yur specific discipline). The New Yrk City and Ls Angeles Shwcases: will nt include all pieces presented at the BFA Shwcase (determining factrs include prfessinal quality f wrk, wrk ethic, and a psitive attitude); will ttal n mre than 3 minutes fr each student; will be cmprised f faculty cmmittee apprved mnlgues, and sl sngs The New Yrk Shwcase and Master Classes will be held in cnjunctin with Actrs Cnnectin in NYC in May smetime during the first week after spring graduatin. The Ls Angeles Shwcase and Master Classes will be in cnjunctin with Actrs Cnnectin in LA as part f their Ls Angeles Cnnectin in the middle f July. The Dance Shwcase Master Classes will be cnducted thrughut the academic year, with utside guest artists at the River Campus facilities. Theatre & Dance Sciety Student Representatives & Invlvement: The Theatre & Dance Sciety is ur cmmunity-based fundraising rganizatin, whse singular gal is t raise mney fr the BFA Shwcase (Cape & NYC/LA) and the Cnservatry s Annual BFA Shwcase Master Class Series. The tw majr fundraisers are: T&D Extravaganza (nw merged with The BFA Shwcase), and the T&D Taste f Cape Restaurant Hp. At the beginning f the academic year, students wishing t participate in the BFA Shwcase will elect tw representatives t serve as Ex-Offici Members f the Theatre & Dance Sciety. Student Representatives n the T&D Sciety will attend all meetings n behalf f the students participating in the BFA Shwcase. All students participating in the BFA Shwcase will be assigned t a Theatre & Dance Sciety Cmmittee t help fundraise, market, crdinate, and wrk the Extravaganza and Taste f Cape events. IMPORTANT DISCRETIONARY CLAUSE Students wh d nt fully participate in the afrementined events and meet all deadlines and expectatins OR wh d nt fully participate as Representatives n the Sciety r n their assigned Sciety Cmmittees may be remved frm all further invlvement with shwcase activities withut warning. Students wh are remved frm the Shwcases frfeit all rights t airfare and ther financial benefits paid by the Theatre & Dance Sciety Index.

7 Theatre & Dance BFA Shwcase Cntract 7 Rehearsals, Perfrmances, Events: Once the rehearsal schedule has been established fr the BFA Shwcase/Extravaganza, utside rehearsals and auditins and regularly scheduled wrk are nt excused. Illnesses, family emergencies, and unfreseen utside wrk bligatins will be cnsidered by the Faculty Shwcase cmmittee and may be excused, depending n the merits f specific circumstances. The cmmittee will als cnsider tardiness t individual events, rehearsals, and ther calls as excused r unexcused n a case-by-case basis. Regularly scheduled Sutheast classes are always excused. Cnservatry / Sciety Financial Obligatins: The Cnservatry f Theatre & Dance/Theatre & Dance Sciety will prvide r pay fr: All visiting guest artists & master classes; Marketing; Receptins; USITT, r UPTA fr designers); Outside Guest Artists in Dance: Fees Travel Husing Per Diem; Actrs Cnnectin Fees in NYC r LA (acting & musical theatre) U/RTA, USITT, r UPTA Fees (design); Additinal Mney fr Design/Tech Students equaling the ttal f NYC Rundtrip Airfare and ne Perfrmance student s prtin f NYC expenses. (NOTE: This additinal mney may be used fr car travel, htel, per diem, and s n, as apprved by the Cmmittee) The $4,000 Annual Duglas and Heather Greene BFA Shwcase Schlarship will be divided equally amng all successful candidates, wh travel t NYC, LA r ther apprved destinatins, and these funds are t be used fr airfare (rundtrip t NYC r LA fr acting and musical theatre r U/RTA). NOTE: These schlarships are depsited int the individual student accunts, whereupn, each student is respnsible t bk their wn flight, using these funds.
