2 Concussions Bad for Athletes and For You? During the Denver Broncos vs the San Diego Chargers game, one of the players on the Chargers had a concussion. This player was WR Dontrelle Inman. It was a very sad day for the Chargers since they lost one of their Wide Receivers. When Inman got hurt, he seem as if he wasn t able to move. What happen to Inman was, it was a third and long play and it seem as if the Chargers wasn t going to get the first down but Inman was able to catch the ball but sadly was hit it the head with another Bronco player s helmet. Since this sad tragedy happen, is football dangerous because of concussions and many other injuries? In sports, there are chances of getting a concussion. These sports may be Football, Basketball, Hockey, or even Boxing. Concussions are a type of brain injury. Concussions can be cause by getting hit it the head or even maybe getting hit in the body and falling. Since concussions are brain injuries, you can t really tell if someone has a concussion. You may have may have many cut or even bruises but you don t really know if someone has a concussion. In the NFL, they are trying to find ways so players can t have that much concussions. What happens a lot is when a defensive player accidently hits the offensive of player in the head with his helmet, the offensive of player may have just gotten a concussion. Concussions can even happen to you! If you play sports or even while you re in a car, there are many things that can happen to you. You can get a concussion if possibly you get in a car accident or if you love riding bikes and you fall without a helmet, there is a chance you can get a concussion. Lucky for you there are ways to prevent this. First of all, when you are in a car, always wear your seatbelt even if you think you don t need it so just to be safe. Furthermore always wear a helmet when you ride on your bike or on your skateboard. It is illegal to ride a bike without your helmet and if a cop catches you without your helmet, than you will get a ticket or if the cop is nice, he will just give you a warning. Next thing is, make sure your area like your house or a playground doesn t have nothing that you can trip on. Tripping is very dangerous and you can slip and hit your ground on the head. This article is to help you so that you can prevent brain damage -Michael Carolino 2

3 Carrot Cake Here's a delicious and fun recipe to make with your friends and/or family! I picked this recipe because my family loves to eat carrot cake on birthdays and we always have good memories of us eating it. Ingredients: 4 eggs 1 ¼ cups of vegetable oil 2 cups of white sugar 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract 2 cups of all-purpose 2 teaspoons of baking soda 2 teaspoons of baking powder ½ teaspoons of salt 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon 3 cups of grated flour 1 cup of chopped pecans ½ cup of softened butter 8 ounces of softened cream cheese Ingredients for Frosting: 4 cups of confectioners' sugar 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 1 cup of chopped pecans ½ cup of softened butter 8 ounces of softened cream cheese Step 1 First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Then, grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Step 2 Get a large bowl, and beat together eggs, oil, white sugar, and 2 teaspoons vanilla in it. Mix in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Then, stir in the carrots and fold in the pecans in to the batter. Pour the batter into a prepared pan. Step 3 Bake in your oven for 40 to 50 minutes or stick a toothpick into the center of the cake and pull the toothpick out. If the toothpick comes out clean, then the cake is done baking. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out into a wire rack mad cool the cake completely. Step 4 To make the frosting: Get a medium bowl and in it, combine the butter, cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat the mixture until it s smooth and creamy. Then, stir in the chopped pecans. Frost the cake. -Maui Wabe and Ally Trang 3

4 Star Wars Fulfils a Wish! As known, Disney s new Star Wars comes out on December 18 th and everyone will be able to watch it in the theater, but one lucky person was able to watch the new Star Wars early, and that lucky person was Daniel Fleetwood. When he was a child, he was a huge fan of the Star Wars. He watched all the movies and loved the series. In 2012, Daniel was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma, this disease is dealing with soft tissue. When it was December, he was near-certain that he wasn t going to be able to watch the new Star Wars and was going to die. His wife, Ashley Fleetwood, knew he didn t have that much time to live so she posted a tweet on Twitter which was #ForceForDaniel, hoping they can see the movie early. This tweet went so viral that it was over social media and the news. This caught the attention of the Star Wars team. Because of that, Daniel got the chance to see the new Star War, Force Awakens early. On November 10 th, Daniel died in his sleep peacefully. His wife posted a new a picture on Facebook saying that Daniel fought a good battle and is now with God. This was an emotional story. At least Daniel was able to spend his last day happy thanks to Disney. Disney is one of the top franchises there ever will be. It was cool for Disney to let Daniel to get an early screening of this Movie since it isn t in theaters until December 18th. This story was very emotional and Daniel had fought a good battle. You can watch December 18, 2015 and when you watch it, think of Daniel. #ForceForDaniel Daniel, may the force be with you Michael Carolino 4

5 Overnight Blueberry French Toast This recipe will be over the top! When you make this French toast, everyone will surely get hungry because of the look and the aroma. Organize half the bread cubes in the dish. Then just top it off with the cream cheese cubes. Sprinkle 1 cup of blueberries over the cream cheese. Then just put the remaining cubes on top of the cream cheese cubes. Step 2: Then in a large bowl, mix the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and syrup together and just pour it over the bread cubes. Cover the baking dish, and refrigerate it overnight. Step 3: Remove the mixture from the refrigerator and for almost about 30 min. before baking your bread cube mixture. Step 4: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) Step 5: Cover the mixture and bake it for 30 min. Then after those 30 min, uncover the mixture and continue baking for minutes until the center is firm and the surface is the color of golden brown. Step 6: In a saucepan (medium), mix the sugar, cornstarch, and water. Boil it, stir it, and cook it about 3 to 4 minutes. Mix the left over 1 cup of blueberries.
