Your future starts here baby Hey this is our school And it's amazing We're Sacred Heart The jaguars baby 1 P a g e It's hard to go wrong In this school With the teachers That are so cool Hey this is our school And it's amazing We're Sacred Heart The jaguars baby And all the other schools Try to beat us But we're too good They can't defeat us I Love This Academy! By Maddie Buhrow, Co-Editor I love Sacred Heart! All of the years that I have been at this academy, I have learned so much about my faith. Now that I am in seventh grade, preparing for Confirmation next year, my faith is being strengthened as we learn more traditions of our faith. The teachers are really nice, and are always willing to help us when we need it. The students at Sacred Heart are always kind, too. We work hard in everything we do, whether if it s sports, music, or Drama Club. The cafeteria food is good, too. I love my school!
2 Lenten Devotions February 13 Ash Wednesday is the first day of the Lenten season. We receive ashes on Ash Wednesday when we go to church. The ashes remind us to die now to sin and rise to new life in Christ. During this penitential season of Lent, we pray, fast, abstain and give alms (helping the poor) in preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. Lents last 40 days long, without counting Sundays. Since there will be six Sundays during Lent, there will be 46 days before celebrating Easter. This year Easter Sunday falls on March 31. What Is Valentine s Day? Olivia Robida Valentine s Day is a day that was originally celebrated as the feast day of St. Valentine. St. Valentine was a priest in Rome around the third century. He was highly looked up to amongst the religious. When he died the people made him a saint. Later poets connected the holiday to romance. Many people then began celebrating Valentine s Day. It is the second biggest card-giving holiday of the year, and almost one billion chocolates are sold on Valentine s Day each year. Traditionally, valentines were sent anonymously to loved ones. Now you most likely know who sent the valentine to you. Valentine s Day has an amazing history and is now celebrated all around the world! Valentines on a Stick! Elizabeth Waight YUM!!!!!! 3 Valentine Poem By Anna Valentine s Day Love, hearts Loving, Exchanging, Admiring Time to give valentines February 14 th Valentine s Day Crossword Nicole Velazquez Being a 5 th Grader Alex Fleming, Gianna LaSalvia, and Rebecca Mekhel Being a 5 th grader is fun, but challenging. Our teachers in 5 th grade are Mrs. Liebenauer and Mrs. Suppel. Mrs. Liebenauer teaches Religion, English, Spelling, and Math. Mrs. Suppel teaches Reading, Science, and Social Studies. They help us study by playing a lot of fun games. It takes responsibility, independence, and a lot of hard work to be a good 5 th grader. It also means that you must pay attention. We have a ticket system in 5 th grade. When we do something good the teachers give us tickets. We also have a raffle at the end of each quarter. If a student earns 200 tickets they can either choose to put them in the raffle or go to McDonalds. Whether it is team drills in math or experiments in science, every day we do great activities. We do a lot of projects like the Election Project, Family Project, and book reports. We are currently working on the Explorer Report. Each of us picks an explorer and we have to make a poster about our explorer. In religion we are learning about the mass and sacraments. Speaking of sacraments our classmate Diego Bremer got baptized on January 18, All of his family was there along with the whole school. It was very exciting. As 5 th graders we got to take a field trip to Columbus. We took a deluxe motor coach. We went to the Supreme Court, Cosi, and State House. We had a mock trial at the Supreme Court. It was so much fun. There were a lot of things to do at Cosi. For example, we saw an IMAX movie and we participated in a demonstration on electricity. We also rode on a unicycle. Soon the 5 th grade will be going to Severance Hall with our homeroom teachers and Mrs. Freas. We are looking forward to it and the second half of a great year. 3 P a g e SNOW Elizabeth Waight Snow Fluffy, White Cold, Fun, Sparkles I love to play in the snow. Precipitation

5 A Winter Sport for Girls Veronica Mekhel and Nicole Velazquez About Wreck it Ralph Katie Mullins Basketball is a good winter sport. When you play basketball, you try to shoot a ball into a hoop. You also dribble the ball, and pass it. You have to work together. It is a sport that keeps you healthy and active. It takes a lot of concentration! It doesn t matter about the score; it is very fun to play. Our school has great basketball teams for girls and boys alike, but we are girls and we really enjoy the sport. In the movie Wreck it Ralph, the Main Characters are Wreck it Ralph, Fix it Felix Jr., Sergeant Calhoun, General Hologram, Vanellope, King Candy, G*Bert, and Zangief. It is about a bad guy named Ralph who is not so bad. He has always wanted to be respected and have friends. When he finally can t take it anymore, he runs away. He wants to go to game called Hero s Duty and along the way he meets a lot of new people. He has to go through a game called Sugar Rush. If you would like to play games and learn more about this movie then you can go to the sight below. The Hobbit is Full of Adventure John DiNovo Diaries of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel Brandon Bowles The new Diaries of a Wimpy Kid book by Jeff Kinney is about a Valentine s Day dance at school and Greg is having trouble finding a date. His class does Candy Grams for the Valentines dance. They could pay 25 cents and have it sent to anyone they choose. Greg didn t get any Candy Grams and no one was interested in the ones he sent out. Rowley helped Greg to get a date. The problem was Greg s date actually liked Rowley and she also had a boyfriend. The Hobbit is an adventure follows that the journey of the title character, Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey takes them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins, Orcs, deadly Wargs, and Sorcerers. This movie is the first of the trilogy of Lord of The Rings. The Hobbit is an unexpected journey. For the viewer this movie came out in December 14, 2012.If you love fantasy this is a must see. The Heroes of Olympus: The Mark of Athena Sabrina Bauman In this third installment of The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan, we join the seven demigods on an epic journey. Starting where the previous book ended, the demigods of Camp Half-Blood have come to meet the Roman demigods and find Percy, but evil is lurking every where they turn. When Annabeth realizes she has the mark of Athena, she must embark on a solo journey that will push her to her limits. Meanwhile, the other demigods have a problem too. Gaea is still awakening, and time is running out. Will the demigods have what it takes to stop her? 5 P a g e
