1 Jan-Feb Ocean City Marlin Club OFFICERS Franky Pettolina President Mark Radcliffe Vice President Annette Cropper Secretary Brian Tinkler Treasurer BOARD OF DIRECTORS Pat Svehla Ron Callis James Jefferson Val Lynch James Giles Mike Diffendal Bill Regan 9659 Golf Course Rd Ocean City, MD A Message from the President - Hello my fellow OCMC members. I know it has been forever since I have written a Marlin Bill article. But fear not, there was a method to my madness. It started back in January when the Baltimore Ravens won the wild card game. I said to myself, Self, you should wait until football is over to write a Marlin Bill. Sure it will drive Amanda nuts, but you will be able to give your complete thoughts on the season Well, here are my complete thoughts. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WOOOHOOO!!!! SUPERBOWL CHAMPION BALTIMORE RAVENS!!!! SUPERBOWL MVP JOE FLACCO!!!! ONE LAST VICTORIOUS RIDE FOR RAY LEWIS!!!! It was a roller coaster of a season. There were many doubters, at times myself included. But we did it. I want to thank all of you who put up with my shenanigans during the games. My understanding wife, who put up with many a drunken Sunday and Movie Monday over the season. My key Fireball partners (WE DID IT FOR LUCK!). Jessica, Katie, Rick and Sam (the hardest working bartenders in the biz). Mikey J and Johnny Solo (hey guys, we brought half a bushel of clams, 6 dozen oysters and some leftover meatballs, work some magic and share it with the bar! You guys rock!). And last, but certainly not least, Coach Harbaugh, Mr. Steve Bisciotti, and our BALTIMORE RAVENS!!! Now on to club business. It has been a busy winter. We have undergone a kitchen revamping and an HVAC upgrade. Both of these improvements will make our club an even better facility for the members to enjoy. The BOD, especially Mike Diffendal, put in quite a bit of time to make these things happen, and as always I thank them all for their efforts. There have been some really good parties at the club this winter. Most recently being the Superbowl Tailgate, and as I write this the Valentine s Dinner is tomorrow night. Dee and the Auxiliary, Amanda, Mikey, and Rick all work really hard to make these parties a success and they have not failed yet. The Auxiliary puts in a lot of behind the scenes work at these events, and usually, for some reason, I am given credit for it. I will be the first to say that I would be lost without Dee and her Army, so please give the Auxiliary members a pat on the back whenever you can. They deserve it. And tip those bartenders! Many of our members have been busy catching fish all over the globe for the past two months. The Miss Annie and the Absolut Joy have been having successful runs in the South Florida Sailfish Tourneys (Randy Yates has been on fire). Big John Knight and his son Tyler put a whooping on the sails in Isla. Bill Pino has been in Guatemala for so long that his wife Jennifer has brought 4 more Alpacas, 3 llamas, 6 goats, and Continued on next page.
2 A Message from the President (continued) a wayward hamster into their home. Howard Lynch has stopped acknowledging my Dorado praise on his Facebook page, but in all seriousness, Howard, Josh Ruskey, Mitch Pierson, and the rest of our OC boys have been setting Costa Rica on fire this winter. So many of our members have spent time in CR this winter that I am beginning to think we need a satellite club in Jaco. I may need to form a committee to look into this. Let me offer this advice, when you are sitting in the club over the next few weeks and see someone with a good tan (with full on raccoon eyes, not little itty bitty tanning salon goggle eyes) ask them where they have been and what they have caught. I guarantee you will get some good stories. I am pretty sure Al and Sharon Rittenmeyer can give you at least 2 or 3 countries worth of feedback alone! This winter has been a wild ride, and it is not quite gone yet, but I can feel it starting to loosen its grip. I look forward to seeing a bunch of you in the boatyards in the coming weeks, and of course at the club in the interim. And one last time. RAVENS!!!!!!! Franky Pettolina Hi, January 8, :46 a.m. My son, Ben, age 9, caught the last White Marlin of the 2012 season and we just got a nice framed certificate in the mail from the Marlin Club - Thank You! The fish was caught/released from Larry Dougherty's LunaSea. As it turns out, Ben just wrote a story about this in class. Wanted to share the lasting impact this will have on him, and me, too! Happy New Year & Best Regards, Scott Welling Bel Air, MD
