The senior shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the field and finished the week going perfect from the free throw line (9-of-9). She equaled a season high 23 points on the road at Georgia State and shot nearly 70 percent from the floor in Atlanta. Against then-ranked No. 15 Old Dominion, Kaylor scored a game-high 18 points. She finished the week with 13 rebounds, five steals, two blocks and one assist. Kita Waller VCU Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville, So., Guard VCU sophomore Kita Waller received the CAA Player of the Week award after helping the Rams to a 1-1 mark on the week at a pair of tough conference opponents. The sophomore guard averaged 16.0 points, four rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game last week. Waller shot nearly 50 percent (10-of-21) from the floor, 67 percent (6-of-9) from long range and 75 percent (6-of-8) from the charity stripe in a pair of VCU contests. The Gainesville, Ga., native drilled four three-pointers for 12 points in the loss to No. 15 Old Dominion. Waller led the Rams with 20 points in a tough conference road win over James Madison on Sunday--spoiling JMU s 20-game win streak at home in conference play. She came off the bench for VCU and scored all of the team s six points in overtime, including the game-winning free throw. ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Brittany Blackwell UNC Wilmington Raleigh, N.C./Cary Academy, Fr., Forward UNC Wilmington freshman Brittany Blackwell collected CAA Rookie of the Week for the third time this season after averaging 12.5 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game last week. She returned to the starting line-up after missing one game to a foot injury and shot nearly 58 percent (10-of-17) from the floor and 83 percent (5-of-6) from the free throw line for the Seahawks. Blackwell finished one rebound short of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds in UNCW s victory over Delaware. She capped the week with a 12-point, four-rebound performance in a loss at Drexel.

UNC Wilmington 50 CONFERENCE NOTES: QUICK HITS FOR THIS WEEK: Old Dominion made the AP Top 25 home for the eighth consecutive week as they improved to No. 13, its highest showing in the AP Top 25 this season. The Lady Monarchs made jumped to No. 20 in the ESPN/USA Today Poll last Tuesday. CAA women s basketball is ranked 10th in the nation in the RPIRatings.com rankings through games of Jan. 20. Old Dominion leads the conference at #7, while VCU follows at #48. James Madison enters the week with a ranking of 53. Old Dominion and VCU are the only two teams that have not lost a contest at home this season. Old Dominion heads on a two-game road swing this week, but VCU will look to defend their home record on Sunday when they host Hofstra. The VCU-Hofstra match-up will air on CN8 at Noon and tape delayed on SportsNet New York at 2 p.m., the first of two CAA televised game on Sunday. At 2:30 p.m., Old Dominion will visit Delaware which will air on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. Towson and Drexel enter the week with nine game winning streaks, while ODU follows with a eight game win streak. One of the nine-game streaks will be spoiled as Towson hosts Drexel Thursday. All three squads are also unbeaten in conference play. The CAA Weekly Telephonic press conference will continue on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Delaware s Tina Martin, George Mason s Debbie Taneyhill and Hofstra s Krista Kilburn-Steveskey will be available at Noon to discuss their teams and the league. QUICK HITS FROM LAST WEEK: Three teams completed the week with a perfect record in conference play, as #15 Old Dominion, Drexel and Towson own a 5-0 mark in the CAA standings. CAA teams have posted a record against non-conference opponents. George Mason fell to Liberty, 69-54, on Jan. 15 closing out the non-conference regular season schedule for the CAA. Hofstra CAA NO. 10 IN RPI RANKING (JAN. 21): The CAA is ranked 10th among the nations 32 Division I conferences in women s basketball according to the RPI report compiled by Collegiate Basketball News through games of Jan. 20. Old Dominion leads the CAA ranked seventh in the most recent report. The Lady Monarchs are followed by VCU at 48 and James Madison at 53. TOUGH SCHEDULE: Three CAA teams are ranked among the top 40 of toughest strength of schedule, according to the Collegiate Basketball News with games through Jan. 20. The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs have played the eighth toughest schedule in the nation. Delaware follows at 38 and James Madison at 39. TV EXPOSURE: CAA women s basketball increased its television exposure with 21 games on the air this season. All 12 teams will make least one television appearance. CAA women s basketball has a pair of televised games scheduled for the upcoming weekend. Hofstra will visit VCU in Richmond on Sunday for a Noon tip on CN8 and tape delayed on SportsNet New York at 2 p.m. The Hofstra-VCU match-up will be

The men s call takes place from 10 a.m. - Noon, with all 12 CAA coaches available in 10-minute segments. In addition to the men s coaches, the CAA will also involve women s coaches in the calls again this season. Each Tuesday at noon, three women s coaches will be available for minutes to discuss their teams and the league in general. The weekly telephonic press conferences will be archived on CAAsports.com. CAA TEAMS AMONG THE NCAA STATISTICAL LEADERS (Top 10): Through games of Jan. 13, James Madison stand fourth in the nation as the Dukes currently outrebound their opponents by a margin of 12.6 boards. Northeastern are seventh in the nation with an 79.3 free throw percentage. Towson steadied at seventh in the nation as they have averaged 13.6 steals an outing. VCU s defense improved to eighth as they giving up only 52.1 points per outing. Drexel returned to the top 10 and is ranked seventh in turnovers per game giving up only 13.9 per contest. **Will be updated on Jan. 22. CAA INDIVIDUALS AMONG THE NCAA STATISTICAL LEADERS (Top 20): Delaware s Kyle DeHaven is snatching 4.1 steals per game and is ranked fourth among Division I players. Averaging 3.2 three-point field-goals per game, William & Mary s Courtney Portell is ranked fifth, while Old Dominion s T.J. Jordan is ranked sixth. James Madison s Tamera Young is averaging 20.4 points per outing which is the 12th best average in the nation. Drexel s Gabriela Marginean leads the conference and is ranked 10th in the nation with a 89.1 free throw percentage. Northeastern s Lucia Pablos follows Marginean shooting 88.4 from the charity stripe (17th). **Will be updated on Jan. 22. Also back are 12 of the CAA s top 20 in rebounding and 10 of the top 15 in assists and steals. CAA 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP: The CAA Championship will be hosted by the University of Delaware for the second straight season March 13-16, All 12 teams will participate in the thrilling event, which will be held at the Bob Carpenter Center. CAA VS NCAA TOURNAMENT TEAMS: The CAA have posted a mark against teams which made an appearance in the 2007 NCAA Division I Women s Basketball Championship. In the opening week, Delaware defeated Delaware State, James Madison was victorious over Harvard, Northeastern collected a win over Coppin State, and Old Dominion defeated Middle Tennessee. Three wins came on CAA home courts, while Northeastern earned a victory over CSU on a neutral floor and Old Dominion defeated East Carolina, 88-66, on the road. George Mason fell to #9 Georgia in Athens, Ga. In week two of the new season, the Dukes posted a victory over UMBC, while Delaware fell to both #3 Maryland and TCU in the Preseason WNIT. In week three, the CAA squads played some of the toughest teams in the nation. Georgia State dropped a tough match to #5 North Carolina, while Hofstra fell to Harvard in the championship game of the Dead River Classic and Delaware lost to Louisville at the Panera Bread Challenge. George Mason defeated UMBC at home in a close victory. Old Dominion fell to #2 Connecticut and #4 Stanford at the Paradise Jam. The Lady Monarchs finished the tournament defeating #22 Purdue. The Tribe of William & Mary then fell to Marquette in a road contest, James Madison improved to 5-0 with an victory over #14 George Washington on Nov. 27. ODU defeated #19 Michigan State, 79-73, on its home court on Dec. 2. The Lady Monarchs continued their strong non-conference schedule, but fell to #1 Tennessee, 83-51, on Dec. 5 and Towson dropped a decision to New Mexico on the road. Towson defeated UMBC, 69-61, at home on Dec. 19. The Lady Monarchs defeated Delaware State, 70-28, but JMU fell in a close contest at home to #4 Maryland, 71-65, on Dec. 20. CAA TEAMS UP WITH GIRL SCOUTS: For the 15th consecutive year, the Colonial Athletic Association and Girl Scouts of the USA are teaming up for the Be Your Best partnership. Each CAA institution has designated a women s basketball game this season as Girl Scout Appreciation Day, with the goal of teaching girls the many benefits that can be gained from participating in athletics. Girl Scouts are invited to attend the games and cheer for their favorite CAA team. For complete information, including special events in conjunction with the games, visit ODU CAPTURES 16TH STRAIGHT CAA TITLE: Old Dominion edged James Madison in another thrilling title game to capture its NCAA record 16th consecutive CAA championship. The Lady Monarchs have never lost a CAA Tournament game since joining the league back in With the win, ODU advanced to its 24th NCAA Tournament, which ranks as the third-most appearances in Division I behind only Tennessee and Louisiana Tech. The Lady Monarchs have won 20 or more games during all 16 seasons as a CAA member. FLASH BACK - CAA MAKING HISTORY IN : For the first time in CAA history, three women s basketball teams advanced to the 2007 NCAA Women s Basketball Tournament. Old Dominion, which earned the CAA s automatic bid, was joined by James Madison and Delaware in the field of 64. Hofstra represented the CAA in the Women s National Invitation Tournament, which marked the second straight season the CAA had four women s basketball teams advance to postseason play. The Lady Monarchs made their 16th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 24th overall. James Madison made its seventh NCAA appearance, but first since the last time the CAA had more than one team in the NCAA Women s Tournament. Delaware made its second trip to the Big Dance which was its first since winning the America East automatic bid in Hofstra made its second straight appearance in the WNIT. The contest against the Lady Monarchs will be aired on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia at 2:30 p.m. DREXEL (10-6, 5-0 CAA) Drexel extended its winning streak to nine games as the Dragons defeated Northeastern, 71-66, at home on Thursday evening and earned a victory over UNC Wilmington on Sunday. Drexel s nine-game winning streak is tied for the second longest in the school s history, matching a mark set by the team during the season. The next longest streak is the team s all-time record, 16 games during the season. Drexel also extended its best start in CAA play to five straight conference wins. The Dragons came back from a six-point deficit early in the second half and staved off several Northeastern rallies for the victory on Thursday. The Dragons lit it up for 60.9 percent shooting from the floor in the second period to put away the Huskies in regulation in a game that was a rematch of the longest game in NCAA history just a year ago. Sophomore forward Gabriela Marginean scored 17 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 25. Senior guard Narissa Suber added 19 points and junior forward Nicole Hester chipped in 12 and a team-leading five assists and two blocked shots. Drexel made 15-of-16 free-throw attempts and was 6-for-6 in its final trips to the line with less than a minute to play to sew up the victory. On Sunday, Hester dished out a careerhigh eight assists--the most for a Dragon this season and the most since Kira Karlstrom dished out 10 a year ago-- and led all scorers with 16 points to guide the Dragons to their win over the Seahawks. The Dragons look to extend their nine-game winning streak and defend their unblemished mark in conference play with they visit Towson on Thursday. The Tigers also enter that game with a nine-game winning streak and unbeaten in CAA play. The Dragons will close out the week with a home contest against Williams & Mary on Sunday. GEORGE MASON (7-9, 1-4 CAA) George Mason suffered a 0-3 week as they fell to Liberty on Tuesday evening, 69-54, in its final non-conference outing of the regular season and then lost pair of CAA contests against James Madison, 63-46, and Towson, Against the Flames, freshman Brittany Eley scored a season-high 15 points in her first start of the season. Eley led the Patriots while senior C Vette Henson also reached double figures with 10 points. The Patriots were led by Eley for the second straight game as she posted double figures with 14 points against the Dukes on Thursday. Eley was joined in double figures by senior Moni Akintunde, who chipped in 10 points. Mason held the CAA s most potent offense to 43.4 percent field goal shooting, but was outrebounded by a 46-to-30 margin. On Sunday, the Patriots were led by Eley s 12-point performance. Eley is the first Mason freshman since Moni Akintunde ( season) to score in double figures in three straight games. Freshman guard Brittany Poindexter added 10 points for George Mason against the Tigers. The Patriots were held to a seasonlow 38 points and was unable to score a three-point field goal for the first time since Jan. 11, 2007 against James Madison. Mason is scheduled to host William & Mary on Thursday before visiting UNC Wilmington on Sunday. GEORGIA STATE (4-12, 1-4 CAA) Georgia State split on the week as they dropped a decision to William & Mary on Thursday, but then collected its first conference victory with a win at Hofstra on Sunday. On Thursday, Georgia State had four players score in double figures, with junior guard Brittany Hollins leading the way with 15 points. In addition, Danyiell McKeller added 11 points and Chandrica Smith and Traci Haltiwanger 10 points apiece. Smith s double figures made her the ninth different player this season to reach double digits for State. State shot 42 percent with 27.8 outside the arc on 5-of-18. Georgia State held a rebound advantage with 16 offensive boards. Shay Rawls had 10 rebounds to top that category. On the road against Hofstra, the Panthers erased a nine-point halftime deficit to come back and earn its first CAA victory of the season. State got 19 points from McKeller. Rawls posted her sixth double-double of the year with a 12-point, 11-rebound game. Rawls has posted a double-double in four of the last six games. Hollins and Haltiwanger each added 10 points. McKeller and Haltiwanger have posted back-to-back double figure scoring games. The Panthers settle at home for a two-game period as they host Delaware on Thursday and Northeastern on Sunday. HOFSTRA (3-13, 1-4 CAA) Hofstra dropped a pair of games this week to fall to 3-13 overall and 1-4 in CAA action. The Pride led at halftime in both contest, but fell to Towson on Thursday before dropping a decision to Georgia State on Sunday. On Thursday, sophomore guard Sam Brigham and freshman forward Britné Rodgers led the Pride with 12 points each, while junior forward Natty Fripp added 10 points. For Fripp, who celebrated her birthday on Sunday, it marked the first back-to-back double figure scoring games of her career as she tallied 10 points against Northeastern last week as well. Brigham once again led Hofstra in the game against the Panthers as she posted 14 points and five rebounds in the game, with junior guard Niki Williams joining her in double figures with 12 points along with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Williams now has 21 assists in the Pride s last three games as she tallied eight at Northeastern and nine against Towson on Thursday. Hofstra returns to action on Thursday when they travel to James Madison for a 7 p.m. contest. The Pride will then finish the week with a road tilt at VCU on Sunday. That contest will be televised live on CN8 at Noon and on tape delay at 2 p.m. on SportsNet New York.

Seniors Jennifer Brown and Tamera Young each had double-doubles to lead James Madison in the win over the Patriots. Young finished with game-highs of 19 points, 11 rebounds and six steals, while Brown contributed a season-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. They were the only two Dukes in double figures. On Sunday, the Dukes were pushed to overtime. The Rams handed the Dukes their first loss at home to a league opponent since Delaware beat JMU, 59-52, on March 3, ending a 20-game home winning streak. The teams exchanged leads 17 times throughout the game and tied a total of 12 times. The biggest lead by either team was six points. James Madison was led by Young, who recorded her third-straight double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Dukes Brown scored 10 points and snagged seven rebounds. Freshman guard Courtney Hamner finished with nine points. Stokes had eight points and nine rebounds, and senior guard Jasmin Lawrence scored seven. Young s double-doubles was the 32nd and 33rd of her career, and she added to her school-record streak of consecutive double-figure games, which now stands at 31. She increased her career totals to 1,755 points --moving her to seventh All-time on the CAA list--and 932 rebounds--entering her at 10th on the CAA charts. She is only six points away from breaking the school record of 1,760 set last season by Meredith Alexis. Young s eight steals on the week moved her into third place on JMU s all-time steals list with 241. She passed Floretta Jackson ( ), who had 235 career steals. The Dukes starting point guard, Dawn Evans, did not play either game due to an injury. She is out for an indefinite period. James Madison will host Hofstra on Thursday before traveling to play Towson on Sunday. UNC WILMINGTON (10-6, 1-4 CAA) UNC Wilmington earned its first CAA win as they defeated Delaware, 58-50, on Thursday evening in Newark, but fell to a tough Drexel squad in Philadelphia on Sunday, Against the Blue Hens, sophomore guard Greta Luksyte scored eight straight points over a two-minute span midway through the second half to lead UNCW. Luksyte finished with a game-high 15 points on a 5-for-8 effort from the floor and a 3-of-4 performance from three-point range as UNCW shot 55.6 percent (20-of-36) from the field during the contest. Junior forward Sahsha Taylor added 14 points and six rebounds while freshman forward Brittany Blackwell, who returned to the lineup after missing the Seahawks last contest against Towson, finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine caroms. On Sunday, Blackwell tallied 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting to lead UNCW, while Luksyte and freshman forward Treasure Johnson each chipped in 11 points. Taylor, the team s leading scorer, was limited to seven point, but grabbed a team-best five rebounds. The Seahawks did not make a two-point basket in the first half until Blackwell hit a jumper with 1:20 remaining. Of the 14 baskets made by both the Dragons and the Seahawks in the first half, nine were from threepoint range. The Seahawks return to action this week with a pair of home contests, welcoming VCU to Trask Coliseum on Thursday before taking on George Mason on Sunday. NORTHEASTERN (5-10, 0-5 CAA) Northeastern suffered a pair of road losses in conference play last week as they fell to Drexel, 71-66, on Thursday and then dropped a decision to Delaware on Sunday. On Thursday, the Huskies cut a 12-point deficit with 5:31 remaining to threepoints, but were unable to get closer as Drexel defeated the NU, 71-66, on Thursday evening. Three Northeastern players scored in double figures. The Huskies were led by Stefanie Hodell s 13-point performance, while Kendra Walton and Shaleyse Smallwood scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Walton led the Huskies with seven rebounds and Smallwood dished out a game-high eight assists. Smallwood became Northeastern s ninth all-time leading scorer as she passed Besty Palecek ( ), who scored 1,243 career points. Smallwood finished the game with 1,252 career points. On Sunday, Walton was the Huskies leading scorer and rebounder with 13 points and six boards. Jasmin Crew earned her third start of the year and had a solid all-around game with seven points, four rebounds, and four assists. Smallwood added eight points and jumped to eighth on the NU all-time scoring list with 1,260 career points. The Huskies will host a tough #13 Old Dominion squad on Thursday before traveling to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia State on Sunday.

Against the Rams, six different Lady Monarchs reached double figures in handing VCU not only its first conference loss, but just its second loss overall. Although leading scorer T.J. Jordan was held to just one points, sophomore Jessica Canady helped lead the bench to 37 points as she lead all Lady Monarch scorers with 15 points. A trio of Lady Monarchs also notched 12 points. Senior Tiffany Green narrowly missed a doubledouble with 12 points and nine boards, junior Jazzmin Walters added 12 points and eight assists, while senior Shahida William poured in 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Jasmine Parker had her fourth double figure outing of her career with 11 points, including six from the line, and senior Megan Pym contributed 10. The Lady Monarchs tore it up for 41 points in the paint and exploded for 52 second half points. On Sunday, it was another thriller between Old Dominion and William & Mary at Kaplan Arena. For the second straight season, the Lady Monarchs got clutch free throw shooting from Green in a close match-up with the Tribe. ODU found themselves establishing a 10-point lead midway through the second half and managed to establish its largest lead of the afternoon with 7:50 left in the game at However, the Tribe made a comeback and what was once a 12-point Lady Monarch advantage was erased to one with 1:31 remaining. William & Mary went on a 16-3 run, closing the gap to A foul put Green at the line, putting the Lady Monarch junior in a similar circumstance to last year. In 2007, Green, who at times struggles from the charity stripe, iced two free throws to seal last year s victory. This year, Green once again went to the line and nailed both her free throw attempts and followed up with a lay-up after the Tribe missed a three-pointer in an attempt to tie the score to seal the game. William & Mary was held scoreless over the final 1:31, without a field goal over the final 3:47 of the game. Walters went 3-of-4 from the line for the final margin. Pym led a trio of Lady Monarchs in double figures with 14. Green finished with 13, along with eight boards, and Walters contributed 12 points and six assists. The No. 13 Old Dominion women s basketball team s three-game road trip continues next week at Northeastern and Delaware. The Lady Monarchs travel to Boston and Solomon Court to take on the Huskies on Thursday. ODU then makes its way to Newark, Delaware and the Bob Carpenter Center, site of the 2008 CAA Women s Basketball Tournament, to take on the Delaware Fightin Blue Hens on Sunday. TOWSON (13-3, 5-0 CAA) The Towson Tigers extended their winning streak to nine games with a pair of victories in CAA play last week. The Tigers defeated Hofstra, 65-60, on Wednesday before earning a win over George Mason, 65-38, on Sunday. With nine straight wins, the Tigers set a school record for consecutive wins at the Division I level. Towson is also 5-0 in the CAA for the first time ever. The Tigers are tied for first in the CAA with 13th-ranked Old Dominion, and Drexel. In the game against the Pride, the Tigers were 25-for-28 from the foul line, including a 22-for-25 effort in the second half. Senior guard Alis Freeman led the Tigers by making seven of eight free throws. She connected on six straight foul shots in the final 1:28 of the game. VCU (14-2, 4-1 CAA) Virginia Commonwealth went 1-1 in CAA play last week in a pair of tough road contests. The Rams fell in their first CAA game of the season as they dropped an decision to #15 Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. on Thursday evening, before defeating James Madison in overtime, 61-60, in Harrisonburg, Va. Against the Lady Monarchs, senior forward Krystal Vaughn and junior center Quanitra Hollingsworth both scored their 1,000th career points in the loss. Vaughn led all scorers with 21 points, her seventh 20+ point game of the year. She notched with double-double with a gamehigh 10 boards for her first double figure points and rebound contest of the season. Hollingsworth poured in 17, including 12 second half points. Vaughn currently stands at 1,015 career points while Hollingsworth has 1,006 under her belt. Sophomore sensation Kita Waller was the third Ram in double-figures with 12 points, connecting on four three-pointers in the contest. On Sunday, sophomore guard Kita Waller came off the bench to lead the Rams with 20 points, including the game-winning free-throw and scoring all six of VCU s points in the overtime period. The win spoiled JMU s 20- game win streak at home against CAA opponents -- dating back to the 2005 season. VCU s Waller was joined by two teammates in double figures, Hollingsworth with 16 and junior forward Radoslava Bachvarova with 10. Vaughn, the Rams leading scorer, went down with an ankle injury in the waning seconds of the first half and was unable to play in the second half. She finished with three points, 13 points less than her average. The Rams will finish their three-game road trip when they visit UNC Wilmington on Thursday. VCU will host Hofstra on Sunday for a televised CAA contest. The game will air on CN8 at Noon and will be on tape delay at 2 p.m. on SportsNet New York. WILLIAM & MARY (8-9, 2-3 CAA) The Tribe finished the week 1-1 in conference play. William & Mary earned a road win over Georgia State on Thursday, 75-57, before falling in a close contest against No. 15 Old Dominion at home, On Thursday, seniors Kyra Kaylor and Devin James combined to score 44 points. Kaylor scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while James finished with 21 points (15 in the second half) and five steals. James connected on 7-of-10 shots and sank all four of her attempts from beyond the arc. Sophomore Kelly Heath added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while freshman Katherine DeHenzel tallied seven assists and six steals. The College shot 52.7 percent (29- of-55) from the field and went 8-of-15 from long range. Additionally, W&M totaled 15 steals and forced the Panthers into 23 turnovers. Against the Lady Monarchs, Kaylor scored a game-high 18 points with eight rebounds and four steals to lead the Tribe, while Heath finished with a career-high 16 points. Junior Courtney Portell sank a trio of three-pointers and tallied nine points, while James and junior Dani Kell each registered three steals apiece. Although the College trailed by as many as 12 points and was behind with 4:10 remaining, it rallied back with a 9-0 run to cut the margin to just one with 1:12 left on the clock. The Tribe totaled 15 steals and forced ODU into 23 turnovers. W&M also went 18-for-20 at the free throw line and held ODU s leading scorer, T.J. Jordan, scoreless. The Tribe will jump on a two-game road trip as they visit George Mason on Thursday and Drexel on Sunday.
