In 2008, Old Dominion earned the championship as the No. 1 regular season seed. For Old Dominion, that marked a run of 17 consecutive years of winning the championship. Prior to ODU s run that started in 1992, Richmond had won a pair, James Madison had won four and East Carolina had won the first two Championships ever played. The tournament site moves around and this year it will be held at a new venue for the : The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md., just outside Washington D.C. 11 GSU N ANNIVERSARY SEASONS HONORED SUNDAY Georgia State will take time this game to celebrate and honor a pair of former N Tournament teams in their anniversary years. The women s AIAW and N anniversary teams (1981 and 2001) are coming back home on their 10th and 30th anniversaries and will be honored at halftime. The women s team from 2001 posted a 24-7 final record. That squad finished second in the regular season, but came back to win three games in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament and earn the N bid. That actually started a streak of three straight years to earn the N bid as the next two teams in 2002 and 2003 repeated the 20-win seasons and conference tournament championships. Leslie McElrath was the leading scorer and rebounder (19.9 and 7.7 averages) as she was later named to the A-Sun s 25th Anniversary all-time team. Point guard Marica Maddox was all-conference and guard Angelina Miller became a 1,000-point scorer. Sophomore Evita Rogers was another scoring weapon. The women s squad from 1981 was playing just the sixth season in school history when they posted an oustanding 28-5 final record. That team won the Region championship with three wins and earned a bid in the 24-team AIAW national tournament, the forerunner of the women s N Tournament. The Panthers lost to Kay Yow s N.C. State team. This GSU team posted two regular season wins over Georgia Tech, as well as wins over Top 20-ranked Georgia, plus Florida State, Wake Forest, Georgia Southern, UAB, UCF and VCU. This team had a 17-game winning streak during the regular season. Terese Allen, whose jersey hangs from the rafters, led this squad in scoring with 23.4 points a game, while Sheryl Martin, whose jersey also hangs from the rafters, led in rebounding with 11.6 per game. Point guard Denise Lloyd led the team in assists with a new school record. Forward Sherry Stinchomb became a 1,000-point scorer. The team (below) played as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference and finished The team (above) played as members of the Sun Belt Conference and finished GSU HONORS 2011 LEGEND: SAN KEGLER Carsandra San Kegler Wiggins was a four-time all-conference honoree, while also achieving all-academic and all-tournament status at Georgia State from The 6-foot 2 post player led her GSU teams in scoring all four years as she scored 1,904 points, still second most in school history. She also led her teams all four years in rebounding as she grabbed 934 to rank fourth all-time. A consistent performer, she posted 30 double-double games to tie for second-most ever in school history. She overcame a knee injury and redshirt season to finish her career strong. A criminal justice graduate, she has spent the past 15 years with the Atlanta Department of Corrections, currently serving as a senior officer and administrative analyst. She also has spent the past six years as a volunteer basketball coach at Atlanta Christian Academy. Wiggins is also working online towards a master s degree while enjoying time with her husband and 16-month old son.

12 Head Coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener Sharon Baldwin-Tener continues her ascent as a rising star and a proven winner. On April 16, she was named the ninth head coach in GSU history by Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick. In eight years, Baldwin-Tener turned the East Carolina women s basketball program around, winning 126 games, while earning postseason bids to the N and WNIT tournaments. The Lady Pirates of ECU won the C-USA Tournament in It is a homecoming for Baldwin-Tener as she played her prep ball in Smyrna and her college ball at both Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia. She was an assistant coach at Georgia and a head coach at Life University in Marietta. In , her ECU team was No. 37 in the N in scoring, while ranking No. 12 in three-point FG percentage, No. 14 in overall FG percentage, No. 19 in assists and No. 42 in rebound margin among the 345 Division I colleges and universities. Those eight years at ECU followed her season as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year honor in her only season at Mercer University in Macon. She first gained notice as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at Life University, where she began that program with a final No. 7 ranking in its first year and produced a team ranked No.1 in the national polls in her second season (2001).
