1 EXHIBITION GAME: WEST GEORGIA at GEORGIA STATE Wednesday, Nov. 3 7 p.m. GSU Sports Arena Atlanta, Ga RECORDS Georgia State, 15-15, 6-12 CAA H: 9-7, A: 6-7, N: 0-1 West Georgia: 9-17, 2-7 GSC H: 6-8, A: 3-9 HEAD COACH Sharon Baldwin-Tener (Georgia, 91) At GSU: 0-0 Career: (12th year) GEORGIA STATE ON THE AIR Radio: WRAS-FM (88.5) Drew Hinesley: Play-by-Play Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen: Color Live statistics at GeorgiaStateSports.com Tickets: GA-STATE ($5 tickets) Students free with valid Panther ID card PANTHERS PLAY ONLY EXHIBITION GAME Georgia State s new head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener will put her team on the home court for the first time with their lone exhibition game against the NCAA Division II West Georgia Wolves of the Gulf South Conference. The Panthers return six letterwinners and will blend in two JUCO transfers and four freshmen from last year s squad. Injuries will play a factor in the exhibition opener as the team gets its first chance to employ some of the things the new coaching staff has installed. The University of West Georgia, in nearby Carrollton, is also under a new head coach with veteran Scott Gronger taking the helm of a 9-17 squad in The Wolves of the Gulf South Conference had guard Thomassian Wyatt picked to the GSC preseason team. The 5-8 senior nailed 31 three-point baskets last year. West Georgia, with half its roster from metro Atlanta, will travel on to play Ole Miss in an exhibition gamethursday night. Georgia State s top returning scorers are 6-foot-2 junior forward Chan Harris (11.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg) and 6-foot senior Angelique Burtts (10.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg). The Panthers look to get even more from six-foot-three sophomore center Cody Paulk, who started three games last year, while blocking 21 shots in just 193 minutes of playing time. Point guard Lanajia Ernest and forward Letiecia Davenport were both all-conference JUCO players last year as they make the transition to Division I. The four freshman include Atlanta native Kendra Long, who signed with Georgia Tech last November, but eventually signed with GSU this summer. Simply put, I believe in playing aggressively, whether on offense or defense. We will play with passion and hunger. Our staff will emphasize the fundamentals and how to prepare each and every day to get better. We want the ball to get up the floor as quickly as possible. We will work hard on the defensive end to get steals and rebounds in order to be able to take advantage of our team speed and score before the defense gets set up. I learned from Coach (Andy) Landers that working hard is extremely important. By that, I mean everyone always thinks they are working hard. I thought that in high school and then at Kennesaw, but when I got to his program, I learned I really could work a lot harder than I was. The players can always do more than they are doing, whether they realize that or not. What we are trying to do now is raise the level and the quality of play every single day. My transition has been pretty smooth at Georgia State and I give the players a lot of credit. They have really bought into what we explained and they understand now what we are trying to do and what we expect of them. I am glad the NCAA moved back the start of practice to Oct. 4 and I think we have put that to good use with the combination of practice time and days off to give the players a chance to recover mentally and physically. - Head Coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener
