7 GSU WEEKLY GAME NOTES CLASSROOM WORK IMPORTANT The student-athletes combined to post a 2.82 grade point average for the fall semester. Leading the way was freshman Jamie Jordan, who posted a 4.14 with her bonus points on the 4.0 scale, to earn rare status as a Presidential Scholar at GSU with all A s. Sophomore center Cody Paulk, a chemistry major, earned a 3.61 GPA for the fall, but actually lowered her sterling 3.72 cumulative college GPA. Junior center Chan Harris just missed the Honor Roll with a 2.9 GPA. Danyiell McKeller completed her studies in the fall and earned her college degree in December. GSU N ANNIVERSARY SEASONS Georgia State will take time this year to celebrate and honor a pair of former N Tournament teams in their anniversary years. The school will honor both a pair of men s N anniversary teams (1991 and 2001) on their 10th and 20th anniversaries, as well as a pair of women s N anniversary teams (1981 and 2001) on their 10th and 30th anniversaries on the weekend of Feb. 12 and 13. The women s team from 2001 posted a 24-7 final record. That squad finished second in the regular season, but came back to win three games in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament and earn the N bid. Leslie McElrath was the leading scorer and rebounder (19.9 and 7.7 averages) as she was later named to the A-Sun s 25th Anniversary all-time team. The women s squad from 1981 was playing just the sixth season in school history when they posted an oustanding 28-5 final record. That team won the Region championship with three wins and earned a bid in the 24-team AIAW national tournament, the forerunner of the women s N Tournament. The Panthers lost to Kay Yow s N.C. State team. This GSU team posted two regular season wins over Georgia Tech, as well as wins over Top 20-ranked Georgia, plus Florida State, Wake Forest, Georgia Southern, UAB, UCF and VCU.
