Northeastern leads, 11-5, but GSU has won the last two, in Boston on Feb. 27 last year and in Atlanta on Feb. 2 this year. GEORGIA STATE ON THE AIR Radio: WRAS-FM (88.5.wras.org stream): Stephen Pittard is in his first year as play-byplay voice of the Panthers on the 100,000- watt GSU station. He is joined by former Panther Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen. Internet: Live stats at GeorgiaStateSports.com Georgia State heads back on the road for its third five-day CAA road trip of the season as the Panthers head to Boston first to take on Northeastern on Thursday in a re-match. The team then heads down to metro Washington, D.C. to take on George Mason on Sunday in a CAA TV game. GSU defeated the Huskies, 81-74, in Atlanta on Feb. 2. GSU then lost in overtime on Feb. 5 at Towson, 63-59, losing a three-point lead with a minute to play on missed free throws. Next, on Feb. 9, GSU saw a buzzer-beating three-point shot by UNCW go through the nets for a loss. Sunday, GSU ran into 22-1 Delaware and was on the wrong end of a blowout. The young Panthers five-member freshmen class has seen extensive time, playing 1,508 combined minutes as the youngsters learn to adjust to the college game. Two of those freshmen have been CAA Rookies of the Week this year (Alana Beroth and Miranda Smith). GSU has just one senior, forward Chan Harris, who averages 10.3 points and 8.3 rebounds to go with 38 blocked shots. Harris has double-double games in three of the last four, eight this year and 24 double-doubles for her career. Sophomore guard Kendra Long is the team s leading scorer (11.3), meaning many games GSU has started three freshmen and a sophomore. Twelve different players have started this season and no player has started every game. Eleven have played 180 or more minutes. Georgia State s 7-17 record has seen the Panthers already play nine top 50 RPI teams (0-9) and 13 top 100 teams (0-13) this season. GSU is 7-3 against teams from 100-to-343 in the RPI rankings. The CAA has seven teams in the Top 100 RPI. That schedule would be challenging for a veteran team and is much more so with the young team. The teams compete in the CAA (Colonial Athletic Association). The Panthers have just one senior (Chan Harris) and are working five freshmen and two transfers into the mix this season. A GLANCE AT NORTHEASTERN The Huskies from Boston come in with a four-game losing streak since beating William and Mary on Jan. 29, in Boston. Northeastern is known for shooting the three-point shot as they lead the CAA with 173 made (7.2, No. 18 NCAA) and 534 attempted (22.3 per game). In the first game with GSU, the Huskies topped those averages, making 10 of 30 three-point shots in GSU s win in Atlanta. GSU hit 3-of-8 treys in that game, but went inside and scored 38 of their 81 points in the paint, including 22 second-chance points and 22-of-30 free throws. GSU has made 59 treys on the season; NU has two players who have each made 50 or more treys. GSU has shot 229 treys; those two players alone have 278 attempts for NU. Northeastern returned six letterwinners under sixth-year Huskie coach Daynia LaForce-Mann. Junior wing Deanna Kerkhof is a steady scorer, averaging almost 14 points a game with 50 three-pointers. But, a big key has been the play of 6-foot-3 sophomore post player Jewel Tunstull, who averages to 12.8 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Tunstull leads the CAA with her 61% field goal shooting. Tunstull did not play the last two games. A pair of senior guards also play big roles for NU. Point guard Jamie Conroy is No. 3 in the CAA in assists (115, 5.0) and No. 34 in the NCAA. Shooting guard Dani Iervolino leads the team with 51 three-point baskets made. Six-foot-four post player Christine Huber has blocked 36 shots and adds 5.7 rebounds a game. The Huskies other CAA win came over George Mason, with a three-point loss at ODU, a four-point loss at Towson, a five-point loss to UNCW, a six-point loss at Hofstra, a seven-point loss at VCU and the seven-point loss to GSU. Northeastern has 16,000 students and is located in metro city Boston. They joined the CAA in the same summer as Georgia State ( ). FEELING REJECTED- THe SwAT TEAM GSU leads the CAA and has blocked 123 shots in the 24 games (5.1 per game) with The Swat Team of Harris and Paul accounting for 79 of those 123 rejections. The 5.1 blocks per game ranks No. 25 in the NCAA this season. Last year, Georgia State finished No. 33 in the NCAA last season in blocked shots with 144 (4.6 per game). That Swat Team was led by 6-foot-3 Cody Paulk (56) and 6-foot-2 Chan Harris (49) as they combined for 105 of those rejections. Only two other duos in school history had ever combined for 100 blocks before. Harris has swatted away 129 shots in her career (38 this year) and junior Paulk has rejected 118 opponent attempts (41 this season). Only four players in GSU history had reached 100 blocked shots, with Harris becoming the fifth earlier this season and Paulk the sixth. GSU s BEST SHOT-BLOCKING TANDEMS 1. Cody Paulk (56) and Chan Harris (49) Vatai Smith (57) and Marcquitta Head (46) Angela Gresham (48) and Vickie Grant (44) This Year (24 g) - Cody Paulk (41) and Chan Harris (38) 79 CAA SEASON HEADS TO FINISH LINE The Panthers spend this full week on the road at Northeastern and then at George Mason. GSU returns to Atlanta next week to play host to VCU and to William and Mary. The regular season ends at UNCW on Feb. 29. GSU plays an 18-game CAA slate, nine home and nine away. The CAA play leads up to the CAA Championship in metro Washington, D.C. (Upper Marlboro, Md.) from March 8-11.

3 Coach SHARON BALDWIN-TENER Sharon Baldwin-Tener, named GSU s head coach in April of 2010, has known how to win as both a collegiate player and collegiate coach. In her first season, GSU continued to improve as the season went along, defeating the team in the CAA Championship that had beaten them by 24 points in the first CAA of her tenure.the team had the first three-game win streak in their short CAA history during a stretch in February, while also defeating two CAA teams who had been ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll, She picked up her 200th career win as a head coach on Dec. 29 vs. Mississippi Valley State (91-65) and guided GSU to the 500th all-time win in school history on Jan. 9 in a win over Hofstra (84-70) In eight years, she turned the East Carolina women s basketball program around, winning 126 games, while earning postseason bids to the NCAA and WNIT tournaments. The Lady Pirates of ECU won the C-USA Tournament in Atlanta is a homecoming for Baldwin-Tener as she played her prep ball in Smyrna and her college ball at both Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia. She was an assistant coach at Georgia and a head coach at Life University in Marietta Those eight years at ECU followed her season as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year honor in her only season at Mercer University in Macon. She first gained notice as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at Life University, where she began that program with a final No. 7 ranking in its first year and produced a team ranked No.1 in the national polls in her second season (2001). Her assistant coaching career was highlighted by being named the Naismith National Assistant Coach of the Year (1997) while she was in her seventh and final year at the University of Georgia under head coach Andy Landers. Baldwin-Tener enjoyed a successful playing career at both the high school and collegiate levels. At Wills High School (merged with Campbell High) in Smyrna, Ga., she averaged 21 points per contest as a senior and was named the 1985 Georgia Class 4A State Player-of-the-Year. Baldwin-Tener earned a bachelor s degree from Georgia in 1991 and completed her master s of education in 1997, also at Georgia. She and her husband, Matt, have two children: Luke (7, Feb. 4, 2004) and Samantha (6, Oct ). Baldwin-Tener as a Head Coach Hired by Life to establish new program Life (NAIA Sweet 16) Life (NAIA Elite 8, ranked No. 1) Mercer (A-Sun semifinals) East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina (C-USA Champ, NCAA bid) East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina (WNIT, second round) Totals, East Carolina Georgia State Georgia State Career Record FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH LINEUP Georgia State has started two 18-year old guards this season in Ashley Watson (Dec. 29, 1992, now 19) and Kayla Nolan (Sept. 24, 1993). Starter Kendra Long just turned 20 (Nov. 14) to join starting center Cody Paulk, who turned 20 in June. Freshman Miranda Smith is 18 (April 11, 1993) with freshmen Brittany Johnson (July 6, 1992) and starter Alana Beroth (April 3, 1992) both 19 years young. The old lady of the lineup this year is Chan Harris, in her fifth year, who turned 22 on July 12. Forward Tiffany Anderson celebrated her 21st birthday Dec. 6 and guard Jerlisa Taylor turned 21 Dec. 27. Four of the Panthers five freshmen have started this year. SLIPPERY HANDS GSU s young team has trouble taking care of the basketball, wasting valuable possessions. The Panthers have committed 504 turnovers, an average 21.0 per game, to rank in the bottom 10% in the NCAA (No. 312 of the 343 teams). The stats show that only 264 of those were steals by the opponents (52%), meaning the other 240 were caused by the Panthers themselves not taking care of the basic passing and dribbling. CLEANING THE GLASS The Panthers are averaging 41.0 rebounds per game (No. 5 CAA) this season, topped by 55 rebounds vs. Appalachian State, 52 vs. Hofstra, 51 vs. UNCW, 50 vs. Jacksonville State and Towson. GSU had 28 offensive rebounds in that game alone vs. Appalachian State. The team has 361 offensive rebounds this year (15.0 per game, No. 5 CAA). Georgia State averaged 40.5 rebounds per game last year, fourth in the CAA. They had a +2.5 rebound advantage for the season to rank No. 87 in the NCAA final stats. BANG-BANG GSU guard Kendra Long acquired that nickname for her ability to quickly knock down shots from anywhere on the basketball court. Long first signed an NLI with Georgia Tech, but was released from that and joined Georgia State after Coach Baldwin-Tener arrived. So far in just 55 games at GSU, she has gone bang-bang with 103 three-point baskets, averaging almost two per game. She passed the 100-career mark at Towson on Feb. 5 to become the sixth Panther to top 100 made. She hit the target from three-point range five times in four games last year and went bang bang four times against Florida State and Western Carolina this year. Long was a 1,000-point scorer (reaching that figure on a three-point shot, naturally) in high school with a top game of 42 points. The sharpshooter was named MVP of the Georgia- Florida All-Star game. At GSU, Long s best so far was a 21-point night last year vs. Old Dominion and then a 20-point game in the win over Campbell on Nov. 25. She had 19 vs. Northeastern. Long has made 5 treys in a game at GSU four times with this year s best being four-of-eight at Florida State and four-ofseven at WCU.

Tech, following the posting of final first semester grades. The 6-foot-3 post player was recruited by Baldwin-Tener to East Carolina and had transferred to Georgia State for the second semester last year. She had her first double-figure game with 10 points, 6 rebounds in 17 minutes in the win over High Point in just her second college game. She started her first game vs. Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 2 (5 pts, 4 reb., 1 block). She had a career-best 15 points on 7-7 FG vs. Old Dominion ( ) and a career-high 4 blocked shots in that game in 21 minutes. She netted her second double-double at JMU (11 pts, 11 reb.) in 24 min. Missed two games after a concussion at JMU, had 6 reb. Sunday vs. UD. HARRIS JOINS ELITE STAT CLUBS Senior forward Chan Harris has achieved several milestones in her career. Harris became the 20th in GSU history to score 1,000 points (her third basket Feb. 2 vs. Northeastern) and has 1,038 now. Harris has 750 rebounds, becoming just the 12th in school history to pull down 700 rebounds. She is tied for 10th at 750. The forward has 129 blocks, leap frogging into second place all-time in Panther history. The school record is 166. She has produced 24 career double-double games and became the 7th to ever have 20 with her double-double vs. ODU on Jan. 19. The 24 tie for 4th. Harris has played in 120 games at GSU, heading to the top of the list of all-time games played. The school best is 121 games by Evita Rogers. She is tied with Shay Rawls for second place and will tie Rogers on Thursday. CLASSROOM SUCCESS The Panthers had an excellent summer in the classrooms, posting a combined 3.35 GPA. Five members of the team had posted GPA s of 3.2 or better during last spring s semester that included basketball season. The recently completed fall semester saw seven Panthers shine in the classroom. Nicole Hargraves made the Dean s List with a GPA over 3.5. Six more players made the A.D. Honor Roll with a GPA above 3.2: Alana Beroth, Brittany Johnson, Kayla Nolan, Cody Paulk, Victoria Smith and Ashley Watson. THREE-PEAT Freshman Kendra Long ranked No. 6 in the CAA last year with her 57 made three-point baskets. She is No. 8 this year (46 made) and No. 14 in three-point percentage (.324). She made at least one trey in 25 of her 31 freshmen-year games and had five makes in a game three different times. She s made a trey in 47 of her 55 GSU games. With 103 career, she has become the 6th to ever make 100 career. IT TAKES A THIEF GSU has 252 steals in 22 games this year (10.5, No. 2 in CAA, No. 58 NCAA), a stat usually indicative of the team s success. Oddly enough, this year s season low for steals was the 7 steals in the win over Campbell. Georgia State gets started with its pick-pockets and shot blocks. The Panthers averaged 10 steals a game last year (311 on the season) to rank No. 62 in the NCAA. The 144 blocks don t count as steals, but serve about the same purpose in getting the transition game going. The Panthers rely on everyone on the court getting steals, evident by the fact the seven players had 25 or more steals last year; nine different players have 15 or more steals in , seven have 20 or more thefts. STEPPING UP, KNOCKING EM DOWN The team hasd improved its free throw shooting with three of the last five games over 70%, but are last in the CAA at 62% on the year. Ashley Watson leads at 76% (25-33) with Jerlisa Taylor close behind at 72.2% (39-54). Chan Harris has made 24 of her last 32 (75%) and Cody Paulk has made 24 of her last 31 (77.4%) to improve to 71.7% on the season.

Georgia State s roster is deeper than in the past and the playing time is more spread out. Through the 24 games, 12 different players have started a game and 11 players have logged 180 or more minutes.; 12 players have logged 100 or more. Nine different players have led the team in scoring in a game this year: Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Sade Means, Kayla Nolan, Tiffany Anderson, Jerlisa Taylor, Nicole Hargraves, Miranda Smith and Alana Beroth. Five different players have led the team in rebounding in a game this year: Alana Beroth, Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Cody Paulk and Tiffany Anderson. THAT S DIFFERENT Here s a streak that had to end real soon, but it is a little different. Georgia State had been led in scoring by a different player for 7 consecutive games and 9 different players on the season. Four of those inen were not starters. Starting on Dec. 16, this streak was almost a month long, but finally ended at Hofstra when Long led again.
