Internet: Live stats at GeorgiaStateSports.com Georgia State returned from Nassau on Dec. 21 and then enjoyed a few days of a holiday break before returning to practice on Dec. 26 as they travel to Jacksonville State on Wednesday, Dec. 28. These teams first met in with Georgia State claiming a win in the season opener of that year. This will be the 27th meeting all-time in the series between the two former conference rivals, who are separated by less than 100 miles. Georgia State claimed a win in Atlanta last year on Dec. 16, rallying from an 11-point deficit. JSU led with 13:50 to play, but host GSU finished the game with a advantage to claim the win. Kendra Long had 16 points (five treys) and Chan Harris 12 points to lead in that win. JSU held a rebound advantage and hustled to get 21 offensive rebounds. Georgia State has won the last five games in this series and 12 of the last 13 games against the Gamecocks. JSU s most recent win against GSU came on Jan. 25, 2003 in Jacksonville. GSU (4-6) comes in with battle scars after a tough early slate that has seen the losses come to Arizona (10-1), Georgia Tech (9-3), Hofstra (8-2), Appalachian State (8-1), Florida State (7-5) and SIU Edwardsville (6-5). Those six have a combined record. The Panthers have beaten High Point, Campbell, Kennesaw State and Western Carolina. GSU is preparing for future battles in the 7th-highest league in this year s rating of the 32 leagues, the Colonial Athletic Association. The CAA has a early mark in the nonconference portion of the season schedules. Delaware leads the CAA pack with a No. 19 national ranking, with six teams in the top 100 RPI among the 344 schools. The teams compete in the CAA (Colonial Athletic Association). The Panthers have just one senior (Chan Harris) and are working five freshmen and two transfers into the mix this season. A GLANCE AT JACKSONVILLE STATE The Jacksonville State Gamecocks are members of the Ohio Valley Conference, having been former members of the A-Sun (TAAC) with Georgia State. JSU has an enrollment of 9,500 and is just north of Anniston, Alabama. Coach Annette Watts is in her second year at JSU, after spending the previous nine as head coach at Davidson, where she was the SoCon Coach of the Year one time (2005) and had a best season of 23-9 ( ). Her career mark in her 11th year stands at The Gamecocks have two Georgians on their current roster and both are freshmen. Six-foot Miranda Cantrell played at North Clayton HS and is from College Park, while 5-9 guard Gia Banks played at Walnut Grove and hails from Loganville. This year s JSU squad has 10 new faces, with eight freshmen and two junior college transfers added to the mix for Coach Watts second year. JSU opened with road losses at Mississippi State and Kentucky and are 0-7 on the road this season. But, the Gamecocks are 3-1 at home, topping Troy, Lipscomb and LeMoyne-Owen, while bowing in OT to Eastern Kentucky, 80-76, on Dec. 20. The Gamecocks leading scorer is 5-11 Nashville freshman Briana Morrow with 12 points a game to go with a team-best 7.7 rebounds. Senior guard Destiny Lane adds 11 points a game and has knocked down 20 three-point baskets. Six-foot junior Danielle Vaughn produces 10 points and 7.3 rebounds a game, along with 12 blocked shots. FEELING REJECTED GSU has blocked 48 shots in the first 10 games (4.8 per game) with Harris and Paul accounting for 37 of those 48 rejections. Last year, Georgia State finished No. 33 in the NCAA last season in blocked shots with 144 (4.6 per game). That Swat Team was led by 6-foot-3 Cody Paulk (56) and 6-foot-2 Chan Harris (49) as they combined for 105 of those rejections. No other duo in school history had ever combined for 100 blocks before. Harris has swatted away 111 shots in her career (20 this year) and junior Paulk has rejected 94 opponent attempts (17 this season). Only four players in GSU history had reached 100 blocked shots, with Harris becoming the fifth earlier this season. HAPPY NEW YEAR GSU will return to Atlanta for a Monday, Jan. 2 home doubleheader with the men s team. The women will play host to Bethune-Cookman at 5 p.m. and the men will follow with a key game with CAA foe Drexel at approximately 7 p.m. that evening in the GSU Sports Arena. That B-CU game ends the non-conference schedule for the women as they then travel to Norfolk to face Old Dominion on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. GSU plays host to CAA defending champ James Madison on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. in the Sports Arena. The CAA play leads up to the CAA Championship in metro Washington, D.C. (Upper Marlboro, Md.) from March 8-11.

3 Coach SHARON BALDWIN-TENER Sharon Baldwin-Tener, named GSU s head coach in April of 2010, has known how to win as both a collegiate player and collegiate coach. In her first season, GSU continued to improve as the season went along, defeating the team in the CAA Championship that had beaten them by 24 points in the first CAA of her tenure.the team had the first three-game win streak in their short CAA history during a stretch in February, while also defeating two CAA teams who had been ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll, She picked up her 200th career win as a head coach on Dec. 29 vs. Mississippi Valley State (91-65) and guided GSU to the 500th all-time win in school history on Jan. 9 in a win over Hofstra (84-70) In eight years, she turned the East Carolina women s basketball program around, winning 126 games, while earning postseason bids to the NCAA and WNIT tournaments. The Lady Pirates of ECU won the C-USA Tournament in Atlanta is a homecoming for Baldwin-Tener as she played her prep ball in Smyrna and her college ball at both Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia. She was an assistant coach at Georgia and a head coach at Life University in Marietta Those eight years at ECU followed her season as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year honor in her only season at Mercer University in Macon. She first gained notice as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at Life University, where she began that program with a final No. 7 ranking in its first year and produced a team ranked No.1 in the national polls in her second season (2001). Her assistant coaching career was highlighted by being named the Naismith National Assistant Coach of the Year (1997) while she was in her seventh and final year at the University of Georgia under head coach Andy Landers. Baldwin-Tener enjoyed a successful playing career at both the high school and collegiate levels. At Wills High School (merged with Campbell High) in Smyrna, Ga., she averaged 21 points per contest as a senior and was named the 1985 Georgia Class 4A State Player-of-the-Year. Baldwin-Tener earned a bachelor s degree from Georgia in 1991 and completed her master s of education in 1997, also at Georgia. She and her husband, Matt, have two children: Luke (7, Feb. 4, 2004) and Samantha (6, Oct ). Baldwin-Tener as a Head Coach Hired by Life to establish new program Life (NAIA Sweet 16) Life (NAIA Elite 8, ranked No. 1) Mercer (A-Sun semifinals) East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina (C-USA Champ, NCAA bid) East Carolina East Carolina East Carolina (WNIT, second round) Totals, East Carolina Georgia State Georgia State Career Record CLEANING THE GLASS The Panthers are averaging 41.2 rebounds per game this season, topped by 55 rebounds vs. Appalachian State and 52 vs. Hofstra. GSU had 28 offensive rebounds in that game alone vs. Appalachian State. The hustling team has 146 offensive rebounds in the 6 games this year (14.6 per game). Georgia State averaged 40.5 rebounds per game last year, fourth in the CAA. They had a +2.5 rebound advantage for the season to rank No. 87 in the NCAA final stats. The top two rebounders are back in Chan Harris and Cody Paulk, with veteran Tiffany Anderson also a key again. BANG-BANG GSU guard Kendra Long acquired that nickname for her ability to quickly knock down shots from anywhere on the basketball court. Long first signed an NLI with Georgia Tech, but was released from that and joined Georgia State after Coach Baldwin-Tener arrived. So far in just 41 games at GSU, she has gone bang-bang with 81 three-point baskets, averaging almost two per game. She hit the target from three-point range five times in four games last year and went bang bang four times against Florida State and Western Carolina this year. Long was a 1,000-point scorer (reaching that figure on a three-point shot, naturally) in high school with a top game of 42 points. The sharpshooter was named MVP of the Georgia- Florida All-Star game. At GSU, Long s best so far was a 21-point night last year vs. Old Dominion and then a 20-point game in the win over Campbell on Nov. 25. She has had three 18-point games. Long has made 5 treys in a game at GSU four times with this year s best being four-of-eight at Florida State and four-ofseven at WCU. SLIPPERY HANDS GSU has started the year with trouble taking care of the basketball, wasting valuable possessions. The Panthers have committed 222 turnovers, an average 22 per game, to rank in the bottom 10% in the NCAA. The stats show that only 108 of those were steals by the opponents (48%), meaning the other 114 were caused by the Panthers themselves not taking care of the passing and dribbling. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH LINEUP Georgia State has started two 18-year old guards this season in Ashley Watson (Dec. 29, 1992) and Kayla Nolan (Sept. 24, 1993). Starter Kendra Long just turned 20 (Nov. 14) to join starting center Cody Paulk, who turned 20 in June. Freshman Miranda Smith is 18 (April 11, 1993) with freshmen Brittany Johnson (July 6, 1992) and Alana Beroth (April 3, 1992) both 19 years young. The old lady of the lineup this year is Chan Harris, in her fifth year, who turned 22 on July 12. Forward Tiffany Andeson celebrated her 21st birthday last week (Dec. 6) and guard Jerlisa Taylor turned 21 Dec. 27.

The 6-foot-3 post player was recruited by Baldwin-Tener to East Carolina and had transferred to Georgia State for the second semester last year. She has been able to practice with the team for a year now. She had her first double-figure game with 10 points, 6 rebounds in 17 minutes in the win over High Point. CAA OFF TO A ROARING START The Colonial Athletic Association is strong again as evidenced by the early success. The CAA is ranked No. 7 of the 32 Division I conferences, one spot behind the ACC in No,. 6 and two spots behind the SEC in No. 5. The CAA is in non-conference games with six teams in the top 100 RPI. Three or more CAA teams have earned postseason bids the last six years, with seven teams two years ago and six teams last year. The CAA has three players among the 30 picked to the Naismith Preseason Watch list. This year, the CAA has three of the top 10 scorers in the NCAA with Elena Delle Donne (No. 1, Delaware), Courtney Hurt (No. 6, VCU) and Taleia Moton (No. 9 George Mason). The CAA has three of the top 25 in steals, and two in the top 25 in rebounds and field goal percentage. RECOGNITION CAME TO PANTHERS In the CAA pre-season poll of the league s 12 coaches, redshirt senior Chan Harris was picked to the second team, making her one of the 10 best players in the league poll. Harris finished last year as an All-CAA third team pick after averaging 12.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, with 49 blocked shots. Sophomore Kendra Long was chosen as an All-CAA rookie last year after she knocked down 57 three-point baskets for the Panthers. Long finished with 7.6 points per game with 53 assists. She shot 37 percent outside the arc. Long had been voted CAA Rookie of the Week twice. Junior Cody Paulk was recognized as the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for A chemistry major and mathematics minor, she was a Dean s List student in the classrooms. On the court, she was second in the CAA in blocked shots with 56, while averaging 5.1 rebounds per game (better than 7 per game over the final half of the season). Redshirt junior Sadé Means begins her career at GSU after transferring last year. She had been an All-SoCon pick as a freshman at Appalachian State. THREE-PEAT Freshman Kendra Long ranked No. 6 in the CAA last year with her 57 made three-point baskets. She is No. 4 this year (24 made) and No. 6 in threepoint percentage (.387). She made at least one trey in 25 of ther 31 freshmen year games and had five makes in a game three different times. She s made a trey in 35 of her 41 GSU games. The 57 makes were fourth most in a season in school history, so Long can set her sights on the season-best 69 makes by Carmelita Layog in IT TAKES A THIEF GSU has 99 steals in 10 games this year (9.9), a stat usually indicative of the team s success. Oddly enough, this year s season low for steals was the 7 in the win over Campbell. Georgia State gets started with its pick-pockets and shot blocks. The Panthers averaged 10 steals a game last year (311 on the season) to rank No. 62 in the NCAA. The 144 blocks don t count as steals, but serve about the same purpose in getting the transition game going. It had 12 steals in the opener. The Panthers rely on everyone on the court getting steals, evident by the fact the seven players had 25 or more steals last year.

5 SwattinG THEIR WAY UP THE SCHOOL ALL-TIME LIST Only four previous players in GSU women s basketball history had blocked 100 or more shots in their career. This season, two more should join that short list. Senior Chan Harris has reached the 100-plateau, while junior Cody Paulk has blocked 94 shots, after making 77 rejections in her first two years as she has a chance to challenge the all-time record. Paulk and Harris had the third and fifth best single season totals for blocks last year when Paulk batted down 56 Blocked Shots Player...Season Blks 1. Rhian Jones Angela Gresham Marcquitta Head , Vatai Smith Chan Harris present 111 Climbing Cody Paulk present 94 shots and Harris smacked back 49 attempts. The school single season record is 67 by Head in ROSTER BREAKDOWNS Georgia State s roster includes players from seven different states, plus one international student. Six of the 13 players hail from the state of Georgia, while two come from North Carolina. GSU has one player each from Alabama, California, Indiana, South Carolina and Virginia. One player came to GSU from Australia. Of the six from Georgia, four are from metro Atlanta (Long, Mays HS; Means, Mays HS; Nolan, Duluth HS: Taylor, Douglas County HS). This year s roster includes just one senior (Harris). The roster has five junors (Anderson, Hargraves, Means, Paulk, Taylor). There are two sophomores (Long, V.
