7 2.0 Safety Checklist The Spnge-Jet Inc. Feed Unit is a pressurized system. Only trained peratrs shuld adjust, maintain and repair this equipment. Inbund pressure shuld never exceed 8.6bar (125psi). T prevent electrstatic buildup and pssible electric discharge, the unit and wrk piece must be prperly grunded / bnded. Operatrs and peple in prximity t blasting shuld always wear eye and hearing prtectin with the apprpriate respiratry equipment and clthing, which may depend n the type f cating r cntaminant being remved. Never pint the Blast Nzzle twards yurself r thers. The use f nn-spnge-jet Deadman handles may cause unintentinal start-up and can result in persnal injury. Befre Feed Unit Pressurizatin and Operatin: Verify the Feed Unit is secure and stable. All pneumatic lines shuld be inspected fr hles, wear and prper fit. The Handhle Cver must be in place and secure prir t and during peratin. Safety pins and restraints shuld be fitted at all Air Supply Hse and Blast Hse cuplings t prevent accidental discnnectin. D nt perate withut the Auger Chain Guard, Recycler Safety Skirt, and Pinch Valve Guard in place. Befre all activities (ther than nrmal peratin), ensure the entire system is depressurized. 8 3.0 Requirements 3.1 Air Supply / Cmpressr Clean, dry cmpressed air must be supplied in adequate vlume and pressure t accmmdate the nzzle size at the desired pressure. Inbund pressure is typically 8.6bar (125psi), minimum 6bar (85psi) Nte: High humidity envirnments require additinal misture separatrs. The air supply hse shuld be fitted with a mating cnnectr r replace bth cnnectrs as desired. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

10 Fr supply hse up t 50m (150ft) use a Minimum Air Line Internal Diameter (I.D.) as listed belw. Fr lengths 50 t 90m (150 t 300ft) use a minimum f ne diameter size greater than listed belw. Larger hses decrease pressure lss. NOTE: Occasinally a cmpressr is equipped with undersized utlets. The cmpressr air utlet shuld be n smaller than the recmmended Supply diameters belw. Hwever, when chsing between lng Air Supply Line and lng Blast Hses, keep the Blast Hses as shrt as practical. Belw are recmmended maximum lengths f blast hses: Up t 15m (50ft) use 32mm (1.25in) I.D. Whipline cnnected t the machine r t a blast hse extensin. Extensins up t 30m (100ft) must have a minimum 32mm (1.25in) I.D. Extensins ver 30m (100ft) shall use a minimum 38mm (1.5in) I.D. Blast Hse Extensin. Larger hses decrease pressure lss. Vacuum Hse B-VAC s have successfully recvered Spnge Media at distances in excess f 100m (330ft). When perating at these distances, ptimum perfrmance is achieved by having the largest diameter vacuum hse clsest t the B-VAC and smaller diameter hse near the pick up lcatin. Lng runs f small hse may result in reduced pick up pressures and high wear in the hse. Optimum hse cnfiguratin starting at the B-VAC is: 20 meters (65ft) f 88mm (3.5in) diameter hse cnnected t 40 meters (130ft) f 76mm (3in) hse cnnected t 40 meters (130ft) f 63mm (2.5in) hse. NOTE: Vacuum hses perate best when running hrizntally and r vertically gradual slpes (like stairs) shuld be avided. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

11 3.4 Ambient Temperature 32º F 0º C Ambient temperature shuld be abve 0 Celsius (32 Fahrenheit). Otherwise: a) Use winter grade pneumatic tl il in lubricatr. b) Minimize misture in supply air. c) Ice build-up in the cntrls r vessel may require thawing prir t restarting machine. Bearing grease will thicken in cld envirnments requiring use f lw temperature grease. Warming the unit prir t peratin may be required. Minimize dwn time that might result in freezing. 3.5 Cntainment Cntainment is an integral part f the Spnge-Jet prcess, as Spnge-Jet Spnge Media is recyclable. T take advantage f this prperty, cntainment must be used t capture and recycle Spnge Media. Spnge-Jet is easily cntainable with light plastic sheeting r mesh. Prjects invlving hazardus materials, high wind lad r ther cnditins may require mre cmplex cntainment and negative air dust cllectin. Pre-cleaning f the area will minimize bth dust and debris which can als cause equipment malfunctins. Always fllw lcal, state and federal guidelines cncerning prper cntainment, cntainment ventilatin and mnitring prcedures. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

12 4.0 Operatin Befre Pressurizatin and Operatin: All pneumatic lines shuld be inspected fr hles, wear and prper fit. The Handhle Cver must be in place and secure prir t and during peratin. Safety pins and restraints shuld be fitted at all Air Supply Hse and Blast Hse cuplings t prevent accidental discnnectin. D nt perate withut the Auger Chain Guard, Recycler Safety Skirt, and Pinch Valve Guard in place. Befre all activities (ther than nrmal peratin), ensure the entire system is depressurized. Attach Handhle Cver with gasket in place. Cnnect Vacuum Hse frm the Large Particle Dwnsput and the Fine Particle Dwnsput t each Waste Drum. Check cntents f Waste Drums, remve stred items. Replace r empty drums when 2/3 s full. Cnnect utbund Vacuum Hse t Recycler Cyclne Strage Sil Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

13 Check Pan Clamps fr tightness. They shuld nt exceed 14kg (30lbs.) each at the end f the lever handle. Adjust by turning the Pan Clamp Hk. Insert Whipline thrugh Pinch Valve; cnnect Blast Hse and secure with safety pins. Cnnect Return and Supply Twinline Quick Cnnect Fittings. Ensure the Emergency Stp Buttn is pushed in (ff). 14 Inspect and clean Exhaust Muffler. Ensure adequate tl il is visible in the Recycler Lubricatr as well as the Auger Air Mtr Lubricatr (bttm f pressure vessel). Check Main Air Ball Valve, Primary Vacuum Air Ball Valve and Primary Recycler Air Ball Valve are clsed. Check Secndary Vacuum Air Ball Valve, Secndary Recycler Air Ball Valve, and Chke Valve are pen. 15 Cnnect the Supply Line and secure with safety pins and restraints. Charge Supply Line. Open Main Air Ball Valve Open Primary Vacuum Air Ball Valve and Primary Recycler Air Ball Valve Attach vacuum hse t Recycler By-Pass Inlet. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

16 Lad by vacuuming new r recycled Spnge Media as required, remve hse frm By-Pass Valve and secure Inlet. NOTE: A typical full charge fills the 400 HP Pressure Vessel and the Feed Unit Cyclne Strage Sil t 2/3 full (the tp f the Sil Actuatr, apprximately 15 bags f media ttal). During peratin add apprximately 1 bag per hur. DO NOT OVERFILL. T begin blasting, pull ut the Emergency Stp Buttn (n) and unlck Deadman Handle by depressing safety flap. Depress Deadman Handle and wait 5 t 10 secnds fr Spnge Media t flw. D nt cycle the handle n and ff as it will create a plug in the hse. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

17 Allw pressure gauges t stabilize then adjust Blast Pressure and Media Feed Pressure t the desired levels. 18 Operating Tips: Check the tp screen f Recycler fr bstructins (duct tape, paint chips, etc). When vacuuming the air/media rati shuld be at least 60%/40%. Avid rapid vacuuming f media, especially n lng runs. Cntinuusly mnitr the quantity f material in waste drums and strage sils t avid verflw. Add new media at apprximately 1 bag per hur t maintain a unifrm wrking media mix. Mnitr levels in bth lubricatrs. Avid vacuuming freign bjects/debris which may create clgs r equipment jams. Inspect and mnitr fr vacuum and system leaks. Mnitr bth strage sil viewing prts t avid ver-filling sils. Cycle the Vacuum Filter Cleaning Lever nce every 2 hurs. 19 4.2 Shut Dwn f the B-Vac Pr Nrmal shutdwn during peratin is by releasing Deadman Handle. Alternatively the Emergency Stp Buttn may be used. Nte: During inspectin, maintenance r any nn-peratinal activity, always shut ff (push in) Emergency Stp Buttn. 4.3 End f Shift Shut Dwn Turn Media Feed t Zer, then depress the Deadman Handle until Spnge Media stps flwing thrugh the nzzle (typically secnds). Push Emergency-Stp Buttn. Vacuum all remaining media frm cntainment area. Allw all media t prcess thrugh Recycler int Feed Unit Cyclne Strage Sil until n Spnge Media is visible. 20 On certain mdels, clean the Vacuum filter by cycling the Filter Cleaning Lever dwn and then back up. Mdels withut this lever autmatically clean the filter at each shut dwn f the Vacuum. Shut dwn Air Supply r alternatively the Main Air Ball Valve. Cnfirm all gauges read zer. Clse bth the Main Air Ball Valve and the Primary Vacuum Air Ball Valve Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

21 5.0 Maintenance Rutine maintenance is required t prvide lng and reliable equipment life. The B-Vac must be shut dwn and fully depressurized prir t any maintenance. 5.1 Prir t each use: Inspect the Blast Nzzle fr wear. Once the nzzle thrat has wrn 1.5mm (1/16in) beynd its riginal intended diameter, it shuld be replaced. Thrughly inspect Blast Hse and Vacuum Hse cmpnents and cnnectins. Replace hse. Ensure all cuplings are prperly equipped with cupling gaskets, safety pins and hse restraints. Inspect and clean Exhaust Muffler. Replace when exhaust is slw. Remve any accumulated media in the Exhaust Muffler and reinstall. WARNING: D n perate equipment withut Exhaust Muffler in place. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

22 5.2 T be perfrmed every 2 hurs f peratin Lubricatrs Check the pneumatic il level in Lubricatrs. Refill with pneumatic tl il thrugh the fill prt n tp as required. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

23 The Vacuum If the Vacuum differential pressure is >0.1bar, increase frequency f filter cleaning. On certain mdels, clean the Vacuum filter by cycling the Filter Cleaning Lever dwn and then back up. Mdels withut this lever autmatically clean the filter at each shut dwn f the Vacuum. If purging the filter des nt lwer the readings t belw 0.1bar a filter replacement is necessary. Effrts t maintain the filter frm excessive buildup, and the suctin f liquids, will extend the Vacuum filter service life. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

24 5.3 T be perfrmed after every 80 hurs f peratin: Remve the lwer, threaded prtin f the Secndary Water Separatr, Cntrl Panel Misture Separatr and Air Mtr Misture Separatr and inspect the interir and O-Ring. Remve any cntaminants, replace O-Ring if needed and reinstall. 5.4 Perfrmed mnthly (r as needed): IMPORTANT: Under NO circumstances shuld any inspectin, adjustment r lubricatin be cnducted while running r cnnected t an air supply. Auger Chain Remve the Auger Chain Guard and inspect the cnditin f the Auger Drive Chain. Apply lightweight lubricating il as necessary then replace the Auger Chain Guard. 25 Bearing Grease This unit was greased befre shipment. Add grease using a half pump (r small amunt) every 500 hurs f peratin. If the unit has nt been used fr ne year, add 1 t 2 pumps f grease. Use quality NLGI #2 grease such as: - Citc AP, Citc il - Val-Lith #IP, Valvline C. - Ore-Lube K2 - VS SGA, MM Industries, Inc. - Mbilux, Mbil Oil C. - Multifak #2, Texac Inc. - Scny, Mbil Oil C. - Alvanie R#, Shell Oil C. The tw bearings shuld be greased by fittings n the side f the machine. DO NOT OVERGREASE. The Vacuum Check Vacuum suctin while vacuum is perating. Allw all hse t clear f media s the flw is air nly. Seal the hse end. Allw Vacuum level t stabilize. Vacuum level shuld apprach 3800mm WC (11 in f Hg). If less than 70% f this reading, check fr system leaks, cnfirm air supply t the Vacuum while running is between 6-8bar (90 115psi), check filter perfrmance and inspect fr damage. 26 Recycler Assembly Shuld the Recycler require disassembly t clear an bstructin, replace a gasket, r ther maintenance, it is imprtant t reassemble the cmpnents as illustrated. NOTE: Failure t prperly assemble and fasten the Sieve Assembly will dramatically shrten its perating life. Assemble as fllws: Place the Fine Particle Dwnsput thrugh the hle prvided in the Vibratry Sectin. Nte: Be sure the dwnsput is centered. 2. Place a Flat Gasket int the Shallw Funnel. 3. Place the Bttm Screen (#16*mesh) nt the Flat Gasket. IMPORTANT: Place with mesh screen side up** 4. Place a Flat Gasket nt the mesh f the Bttm Screen. 5. Place the Main Rim ver the Flat Gasket. 6. Place a Flat Gasket int the tp f the Main Rim. 7. Place the Tp Screen (#3* mesh) int the Main Rim and n tp f the Flat Gasket. IMPORTANT: Place mesh screen side up** 8. Place a Flat Gasket nt the Tp Screen, making sure t center the Flat Gasket. 9. Place the Hpper ver the Flat Gasket. 10. Attach all Pan Clamps. These must be adjusted prperly t secure the Sieve Assembly (refer t 4.0 Operatin). *Tp Screen standard size is #3; Bttm Screen standard size is #16 unless ther sizes are specified r prvided. 9 **Screens must be assembled with mesh side up. 27 6.0 Trubleshting 6.1 Feed Unit: Unit des nt perate when Deadman Handle is depressed Check Main Air Ball Valve is pen. Check Emergency Stp Buttn is pulled ut. Check Twin Line Quick Cnnect Fittings are cnnected and secure. Check fr damage t Twin Line. Check Line Pressure is abve 1bar(15psi) when Deadman is depressed. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

28 Unit des nt perate when Deadman Handle is depressed (Cntinued) Remve red air line frm Exhaust Valve; hld it securely, then depress Deadman Handle. IF n air is felt exiting red air line, trace air flw peratin thrugh Twinline and Deadman Handle checking fr bstructins r leaks. IF air is felt exiting red air line, place thumb n pening f red air line and depress Deadman Handle. IF unit starts (air exits nzzle) depressurize unit and replace Exhaust Valve Diaphragm. IF unit des nt start, with thumb still blcking red air line, check Actuatin Rate Indicatr Eye is cycling. IF cycling, trublesht, repair r replace Blast Pressure Regulatr. 29 Air will nt stp exiting nzzle when Deadman Handle is released Push Emergency Stp Buttn (in). If unit stps, likely prblems are: 1. Incrrect Deadman. Replace with Spnge-Jet Deadman. 2. Twinline air lines frm unit t Deadman have been reversed. SUPPLY RETURN SUPPLY RETURN 3. Deadman is brken; replace with Spnge-Jet Deadman. If Unit des nt stp, likely prblems are: 1. On/Off Cntrl Valve is malfunctining. 2. Exhaust Valve Diaphragm is damaged. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

30 Air Mtr sticks during startup; becmes sluggish at lwer Media Pressures Check Air Mtr Lubricatr il level and il lubricatin rate. Auger will nt begin rtating Cnfirm Media Feed Pressure Gauge reads cnsistently with Typical Media Feed Pressure chart n Cntrl Panel Turn Manual Rtatin Knb Regulatr Handle clckwise t start the rtatin. If excessive frce is required, clear bstructin (see next sectin). Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

31 Auger stps rtating during nrmal peratin 1. Release Deadman Handle and depressurize unit. 2. Clse Main Air Ball Valve. 3. Depress Emergency Stp Buttn. 4. Remve Clean Out Trap; rtate Manual Rtatin Handle clckwise and cunter-clckwise until bstructin falls ut. Auger shuld mve smthly. Replace Clean Out Trap. 5. If bstructin cannt be cleared: a. Remve Auger Chain Guard and Chain. b. Remve fur screws, pull Auger frm shaft and remve bstructin. c. Reassemble Auger; test fr smth rtatin. d. Re-install Auger Chain Guard and Chain. 32 Air flw thrugh nzzle suddenly stps 1. D nt restart. Depress Emergency Stp Buttn immediately. Depressurize unit and clse Main Air Ball Valve. 2. Remve Blast Nzzle frm Blast Hse; inspect fr and remve bstructins. 3. Discnnect all Blast Hse cnnectins; inspect fr and remve bstructins. 4. Remve Auger Tunnel End Cap; check fr and remve bstructins. Replace Auger Tunnel End Cap. 5. If bstructin was frm Spnge Media, turn Media Feed Pressure t 0bar(0psi). Check Chke Valve is in full pen psitin; r parallel t pipe. Resume blasting. When stream f air withut Spnge Media is achieved, slwly return Media Feed Pressure Gauge t desired pressure. T much Spnge Media exits Nzzle r is pulsing 1. Check Chke Valve is in full pen psitin; r parallel t pipe. 2. Check Media Feed Pressure Gauge belw 3.4bar(50psi). Resume Blasting. Spnge-Jet B-VAC User Manual 2/8/

33 Blast Pressure increases and decreases cntinuusly r Unit exhausts intermittently while blasting 1. Check fr damage t Twin Line and fr air leaks at all fittings and cnnectins. Repair, replace r tighten as necessary. 2. Remve Exhaust Valve Cver, inspect fr and remve bstructins. Check Exhaust Diaphragm fr rips r small hles. Clean r replace as necessary. 34 Air flws thrugh Nzzle withut Spnge Media while Auger is rtating After depressing Deadman, Spnge Media flw thrugh Nzzle can take up t ±15 secnds with nrmal hse length. Stabilized Spnge Media flw can take up t ±4 minutes. 1. Check fr adequate Spnge Media amunt in Pressure Vessel. 2. Check Agitatin Rate Indicatr Eye is cycling between black and green every few secnds while machine is pressurized and Deadman Handle is depressed. If Agitatin Rate Indicatr Eye is cycling, depressurize unit, pen Handhle Cver and check Media Actuatr and Actuatr Tree and Chain are attached. Recnnect if necessary and lk fr bstructin in bttm f Pressure Vessel. If Actuatin Rate Indicatr Eye is nt cycling, enter Diagnstic Mde. Diagnstic Mde: 1. Turn Blast Pressure Regulatr Handle ff by rtating until it remves frm Cntrl Panel. 2. Turn Media Feed Pressure Regulatr Handle ff by rtating until it remves frm Cntrl Panel. 3. When Blasting, excessive amunts f dust are bserved Cnfirm Bttm Screen is prperly installed. Additinal dust reductin can be achieved by: 1. Passing Spnge Media thrugh unit again. 2.
