4 Intrductin Overview The ISOGATE MP Series Mechanical Pinch Valve cmprises f Cast metal Open bdy: Supprts/huses the actuating mechanism, pinching mechanism, and flexible pinch sleeve. Actuating mechanism: Manual hand wheel, bevel gear hand wheel, pneumatic cylinder, hydraulic cylinder r electric mtr gear that drives (actuates) the pinching mechanism. Pinching mechanism: Mechanical Bridge, pinch bars, tie rds and stem, which are driven by the actuating mechanism t squeeze (pinch) and relax the flexible pinch sleeve. Flexible pinch sleeve: Cntains the prcess fluid and is pinched by the pinching mechanism t allw thrttling r n/ff cntrl f the prcess fluid flw. Operating the actuating mechanism simultaneusly mves the upper and lwer mechanical pinch bars t pen and clse the valve. The valve has a fully unbstructed bre when pened and pinches shut at the sleeve center line when clsed. 5 Installatin Lcatin The MP Series Mechanical Pinch Valve may be installed int piping with the centerline and perating mechanism axes in any altitude angle, vertical r hrizntal. Additinal supprt shuld be prvided fr large size r heavy valves t minimize pipe line bending lads n valve frame and flanges. Flw thrugh the valve may be in either directin. The inside diameter f the mating piping shuld match the bre size f the valve. Flanges The valves use industry standard end flange blting patterns. Flanges mating t the ISOGATE MP Series Pinch Valve shuld be flat full faced. The flange can be serrated if required (eight 90º 1/16 deep ntches per inch) t help hld the pinch sleeve in psitin. If the mating flange is a slippery material such as PVC r rubber, a serrated metal gasket shuld be used between bth surfaces. If the mating flange is a fragile material such as PVC, a flange backing ring shuld be used. Blting The valve shuld be in the fully pen psitin during installatin. Flange blt/stud lengths are determined by valve bdy type and size (Refer Pages 6 t 11). Open bdy pinch valves are supplied with thrugh end flange blt hles. The minimum flange blt/stud length is the sum f the nut height, valve flange width, valve pinch sleeve width, pipeline flange thickness and backing ring thickness (if used). The blt/stud shuld nt extend beynd the valve flange t the pint f tuching the valve frame. Flange blts shuld be tightened in a star pattern. The first tightening pass shuld be t 1/2 f the trque value listed. The secnd tightening pass shuld be t the full trque value listed. If further tightening is required t seal, an additinal tightening pass shuld be made nt t exceed 1-1/2 times the value listed in the tables belw. Page 5

12 Operatin Wrking Pressure The maximum permitted line (wrking) pressure fr the MP Series Mechanical Pinch Valve depends n the size selected; refer the tables n page 18, 19 and 20. Standard MP Series Mechanical Pinch Valves are nt nrmally recmmended fr use in negative pressure (vacuum) cnditins. Please cntact yur nearest Weir Minerals representative fr further infrmatin. Thrttling The valve can be used fr bth n-ff and thrttling (flw cntrl) applicatins. Standard MP Series Mechanical Pinch Valves are nt nrmally recmmended fr high differential pressure r heavy duty thrttling applicatins. Please cntact yur Weir Minerals representative fr further infrmatin. Clsure Manually Open valves frm 1 t 5 emply a metal hand wheel. Manually Open valves frm 6 t 12 emply a trque reducing bevel gear with a metal hand wheel. Fr all manually perated MP Series valves, clckwise rtatin f the hand wheel clses the valve and cunter-clckwise rtatin pens the valve. Rtating the valve hand wheel mves the valve stem and pinches r relaxes the pinch sleeve. Fr valves with a hand wheel, nly the stem and hand wheel rise and fall as the valve is clsed and pened. Fr valves with a bevel gear assembly hand wheel, the stem, bridge and bevel gear assembly rise and fall as the valve is clsed and pened. The valve shuld be clsed firmly t the pint where all flw thrugh the valve is fully stpped. The valve shuld nt be ver-tightened, as damage t the mechanisms and/r pinch sleeve may ccur. Levers r extensins (cheaters) shuld never be used t assist in clsing the valve D nt emply sharp implements fr Redding r cleaning the pipe line in the event f a blckage, as this can result in damage t the valve pinch sleeve. 13 Maintenance Safety Cnsideratins Assciated prcess equipment must be islated frm accidental start up r release f residual pressure. Prcess fluid/slurry must be drained frm the pipeline, prir t remval f valve frm pipeline. If heat is present sufficient time must be allwed t ensure that the valve, cmpnents and residual prcess fluid/slurry have cled t a safe wrking temperature It is recmmended that a safe methd f wrk is detailed fr the specific applicatin/task and a risk assessment carried ut prir t cmmencing wrk. The apprpriate Persnal Prtectin Equipment (PPE) shuld be wrn at all times Lubricatin The actuating and pinching mechanism threads shuld be lubricated with high quality lithium based grease (Mbil grease XHP-222 r equivalent) t ensure smth peratin. The grease shuld be applied directly t the threads. D nt allw grease t cntact the natural rubber pinch sleeve. Strage Prir t strage, thrughly drain and clean the valve. The valve and sleeve shuld be stred indrs, prtected frm temperature and humidity extremes and expsure t dust, debris, misture, vibratin and sunlight. In harsh envirnments the equipment shuld be cvered with a prtective tarpaulin that allws prper air circulatin. The sleeve shuld als be prtected frm heat, light, and expsure t zne. Stre valves with the actuatr in the up/pen psitin. D nt stre heavy bjects n the pinch sleeve. Fr strage perid greater than 36 mnths, please cntact Weir. Valve Remval If the valve sleeve has been cmprmised (wrn, split r hled) prcess fluid/slurry may splash ut frm the sleeve. Suitable precautins shuld be taken t ensure any hazards present frm this prcess fluid are taken int accunt and dealt with accrdingly. The valve must be fully remved frm the pipe line fr replacement f the pinch sleeve. Prcedure Set the valve t the fully pen psitin. Remve end flange t pipeline flange blts. Relieve pipe frces frm valve and remve valve frm the pipeline. Page 13

14 Maintenance Sleeve Remval Set the valve n a wrk bench r suitable wrk lcatin. Ensure that the valve is in the fully pen psitin. Open Bdy ½ 24 Remve the tw lwer half flange n either side by remving the fur flange blts. Remve the fur pening tab screws frm the upper and lwer pinch bars. Cntinue disassembly accrding t valve size as fllws. ½ 5 : Release the tie rds frm yke. Remve the lwer pinch bar and tie rds. Remve the ld valve sleeve by withdrawing thrugh the pening created : Remve the lwer pinch bar frm the tie rds. Remve the ld valve sleeve by withdrawing thrugh the pening created by remving the lwer pinch bar. Sleeve Replacement Select genuine Weir Minerals Linatex ISOGATE MP Series replacement pinch sleeve with the apprpriate material fr the prcess applicatin. Thrughly clean the frame, pinching and actuating mechanisms, and lubricate the threads (refer Lubricatin ) t ensure free peratin. Fllw the reverse f Sleeve Remval. There are n specific trque ratings fr the half flange blts r frame blts but they shuld be tightened firmly and evenly. Page 14
