Superintendent's Highlights This is the first full year of implementing the reorganization of Nye County District to refocus on student learning. Increased capacity at the district level has made a difference with the ability to provide additional support at the school site levels. Implementation and support of professional collaboration, working towards a universal curriculum district wide, and an effective professional learning community process has begun to facilitate the highest level of learning for each student along with assisting in the development and retention of high quality teachers and administrators. Instructional Consultation, Assessment and Teaming, and Mastery Connect have been very effective with supporting this process. Teachers and administrators are held to the high standards of the Nevada Educator Performance Framework to give ALL students the opportunity and support they need to be successful. We have also focused on enhancing and improving attitudes and behaviors to continue to provide an engaging, safe, respectful and positive learning environment for all. staff, district level administration, bus drivers and bus aides have all been trained in the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) in an effort to change the culture and climate at all sites. Additional training is being provided as needed to ensure this system is understood and is being implemented district wide. Kagan is also being used to enhance and ensure our culture and climate changes for the better. Solution Tree has been instrumental in our district with training taking place at the school level with staff and site administration as well as at the district level with district administration. Goals and Objectives Goal # 1 Increase academic achievement by facilitating the highest level of learning for each student through the implementation and support of professional collaboration and an effective professional learning community (PLC) process including the development of a guaranteed, universal curriculum. Measurable Objectives Increase 2017 graduation rate to 72.7%, decrease credit deficient/hspe fail from 10.8 to 8.8%. Increase 2017 proficiency on NV Summative Assessments Grades 3-8 (ELA, Math & Science) from 32% to 45%, and on High End of Course Assessments (ELA, Math & Science) from 63% to 70%. Goal # 2 Enhance and improve stakeholder attitudes and behaviors to provide an engaging, safe, respectful, and positive learning environment to promote increased learning for all stakeholders. Measurable Objectives Increase attendance rate from 94.2 to 95; reduce bus and school referrals ( establish baseline), reduce tardies ( establish baseline), reduce drop outs from 9.8% to 8%. District Communication Efforts Nye County District utilizes several meaningful ways to communicate with parents, families, staff and the community. Our website is user friendly and provides for communication areas such as press releases, news, and the Superintendent's weekly Monday Minutes. An link directly to the district receptionist, generated from the district website is very useful. The Website: Page 1 of 26

2 receptionist reviews and forwards all incoming to the appropriate staff, department or school for response. Board of Trustees meeting information, agendas, notices and minutes are posted online on the website. This information, dating back more than ten years, is available for review by the public. Members of the Board of Trustees are easily reached via an link through our website, or by phone using their posted phone numbers. The Nye County District's Parent Involvement & Engagement website is maintained by the parent liaison. This website contains a multitude of information and links for parents, students and community members. Building support from local media for distribution of news, events and announcements is ongoing. Board of Trustees Briefs" are provided to the media the day after each board meeting occurs. The superintendent's Monday Minutes (weekly communication of activities) are posted on the NCSD website and submitted to local media. We have a District Facebook page where we post school events as well as district wide information and events including calendar dates and parent information. We have teamed with NyE Community Coalition (NyECC) to post community events and services to our Facebook page. Staff, students, parents and the community are all able to access the NCSD Facebook page from the district website. A parent kiosk, in both the Southern and Northern district offices, provide parents with an additional option for obtaining information. The kiosks are available during office hours and include the use of a computer. Parents may access their child's academic and attendance information through Infinite Campus via the kiosk. A three week progress report schedule is used district wide for schools to send student reports home on a regular basis. newsletters are sent home on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis. Messenger, an automated phone and system is used by school sites and the district office to communicate information regarding students and events occurring at the schools as well as student absences. The system is also used to inform parents of emergency situations and unforeseen temporary school closures. Parent Involvement activities have been implemented my schools including Math Night, Family Story Teller Training, Jr/Sr Scholarship nights, Family Information nights as well as Title I, Gear-up, Family Engagement and Migrant meetings. Sprigeo is a program accessible by staff, students, parents and the community. This software program was implemented to report bullying, and can be anonymous if desired. This program is accessible via each schools' website. Discipline Each school site at Nye County District submitted a Progressive Plan of Discipline this school year. This Discipline Plan was developed by a committee of school leaders, staff and parents. Bullying and Cyber-Bullying training was provided to all staff and students. Additionally, detailed information regarding the definition of Bullying/Cyber-Bullying was placed in the NCSD Parent- Student Handbook provided to each student at the beginning of this school year (and to new students during registration). The handbook is available on the District website. The District has also been using Sprigeo, the Bullying/Cyber-Bulling Reporting System this school year for students and parents. There is a link to this site on each school's website for reporting of Bullying/Cyber-Bullying incidents. Nye County District has a set process in place for handling discipline procedures, which includes Bullying/Cyber-Bullying. This process also involves a follow-up procedure at the District level using Student Discipline Hearing Action forms. When necessary, community involvement is used to assist with specialized classes/training for offending students and their parents. Many of these classes are hosted by the Nye Community Coalition. Nye County District is fully committed to continuing their efforts to educate students, parents, staff and the community of Bullying/Cyber-Bullying and on striving to lower the number of incidents each school year.
