1 MEDIA INFORMATION Wilmington Blue Rocks (42-33, 4-1) Carolina League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals vs. Lynchburg Hillcats (36-39, 3-2) Carolina League Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians Game No. 76 Home Game No. 38 Frawley Stadium Wednesday, July 1, :35 p.m. BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN HOME: AWAY: STREAK: W2 LAST 5: 4-1 LAST 10: 7-3 SIXTH WIN IN LAST SEVEN GAMES: On the back of another mesmerizing performance from starter Alec Mills, the Wilmington Blue Rocks picked up a 1-0 win over the Frederick Keys on Tuesday night at Nymeo Field. The Rocks have now taken both series they have played to start the second-half of the season. Mills was helped out by the bat of Mauricio Ramos who jacked his fourth homer of the season in the first inning, the only run Mills would need to secure his sixth victory of the season. MILLS THE MAGNIFICENT: Mills extended his team-leading scoreless innings streak to 23.1 innings. Prior to Mills, the most consecutive scoreless frames by any Blue Rock was by a guy who now resides at Double-A. Cody Reed threw 17 straight innings without allowing a run between May 9 and 25. Mills seven scoreless inning on Tuesday lowered his ERA to 2.14, the lowest it has been since his first appearance on April 11 when he allowed one earned run in 5.1 innings against Myrtle Beach. That ERA is now good for tops in the League among qualifying starters along with his former teammate Reed, who posted a 2.14 mark before the call-up. Mills eight strikeouts raised his season-long total to 83, behind only league-leader Mitch Horacek s 87. With the win on Tuesday, Mills is now 6-3 this season with Wilmington. LIVING ON THE LONG BALL: While Nymeo Field may have something to do with it, Wilmington has looked like a modern-day Murderer s Row against Frederick this season. With their home run on Monday, the Rocks have now hit 14 long balls against the Keys this season, a number that more than doubles their total against any other team in the Carolina League. The Keys may have been just be catching Wilmington at the wrong time. The Blue Crew has hit eight homeruns in their last five contests. Mauricio Ramos has been right in the middle of everything. Ramos homer on Tuesday was his fourth this season, all of them coming in the month of June and three of them at the Keys home -- Nymeo Field. After going 3-for-3 with a walk on Tuesday, Ramos has reached base in nine consecutive plate appearances. The Rocks third baseman is now batting.285. His 70 hits are good for second on the team behind only Ramon Torres 71 and his 27 RBIs are just back of Frank Schwindel (30) for the team-lead. SEE YA FREDERICK: After Tuesday night, the Rocks can officially say that they are done with the city of Frederick -- in the regular season at least. Tuesday s game marked the last time the two CL North rivals will meet in 2015 at Nymeo Field, barring a possible playoff appearance for the Keys. Wilmington will certainly be sad to see Frederick go as the Blue Crew s offense has feasted on Keys pitching all season long, especially in hitterfriendly Frederick. In their 19 games against the Keys, Wilmington s offense is batting.279 while scoring 91 runs. For a team that does not draw many walks, the Rocks have also excelled in the patience department, waiting out 53 free passes against the Keys in those 19 contests. Despite their struggles on the road all season long, the Blue Crew, which sports a record away from home overall, finished the regular season with a 6-5 mark at Nymeo Field. Frederick is the only road city where the Rocks are above.500 this year. HOME/ROAD SPLITS: Much like the Rocks don t want to leave Frederick, they probably also don t want to see June leave either. Wilmington ended the month 15-10, its best record in any month this season. The Rocks 104 runs scored in the year s sixth month are also more than they scored in any other month, and by a wide margin. Previously, their highest runs scored total was 84 in May, a month in which they played five more games. Wilmington pitchers also enjoyed June, with three of the team s seven shutouts coming during the month. Rocks hurlers posted a 2.83 ERA in June, which compares favorably to their season-era of Wilmington shortstop Jack Lopez will miss the month more than anyone, however, as he batted.343 in 21 games to go along with a team-leading 15 runs scored. THEY SAID IT, MANAGER BRIAN BUCHANAN: We ve had so many of those (kinds of games) it s kind of standard. It was exciting, especially there at the end. (Alec) Mills went out there and did what he s been doing all year. He s throwing the ball extremely well. Obviously, the two-out homerun by (Mauricio) Ramos was huge. We had some chances to add some on, we just couldn t get the big hit...a pitcher s got to go out there and pitch like it s a 0-0 game every inning and it s been 0-0 for (Mills) sometimes so he doesn t really have to think about it. He s locked in right now with what he s doing. All of his pitches are working for him and he s keeping them off-balance, making pitches when he needs to, and the defense has been pretty good for him...i think a big part of us winning the first-half was winning those one, two, or three run games. I m not sure what our record is in them, but I know we ve played a ton of them. I think that has to do with the way our pitchers are throwing the ball. They re keeping runs off the board and we re getting big hits. They re resilient. If we re not swinging the bats well, they pitch and play defense. When we are swinging the bats well, we score enough runs where our pitchers can throw some zeros up and get some wins. Upcoming Probable Starters and Schedule Today s Starters WIL: RHP Jakob Junis (3-5, 3.62) vs. LYN: RHP Mitch Brown (2-8, 6.07) In his fourth year of professional baseball, Jakob Junis was a 29th-round pick by the Royals out of the 2011 draft. The righty was born in Jacksonville, Arkansas, but grew up in Rock Falls, Illinois. Junis decided to begin his pro career straight out of high school, turning down a scholarship offer from N.C. State to sign for a reported $575,00 He began his career with the Burlington Royals in the Appalachian League and first pitched in full season ball last year with the Low-A Lexington Legends. He was the Legends opening day starter. In fact, Junis has gotten the call on opening day three times in his career, with his most recent coming on April 9 of this year against Myrtle Beach. Possibly his best start as a pro came on May 18, 2014 with Lexington. In that outing, Junis did not allow a hit in eight frames, giving up only one walk and hitting a batter against Hagerstown. He has been up-and-down this season, but did pitch way enough lately to earn a brief trip to Double-A. Mitch Brown makes his 15th start of the season tonight for the Lynchburg Hillcats, his third against Wilmington. His first two starts against the Rocks came in back-to-back appearances from May Brown did not take a decision in either outing, though he gave up seven runs in just three innings on May 11. Brown entered the season as the 14th ranked prospect in the Cleveland Indians organization according to Baseball America. A secondround pick out of high school in 2012, Brown became one of just two Minnesota pitchers taken out of high school in the first two rounds in the last 30 years. The 79th overall pick, Brown signed for a reported $800,000. Before the draft, Brown was offered a full scholarship to play baseball at the University of San Diego, which he accepted at first before being taken by Cleveland. He throws his fastball consistently in the mid-90s with a curveball that scouts consider one of the best in the Indians system. His best professional season came in 2014 with Low-A Lake County where he went 8-8 in 27 starts with a 3.31 ERA. Rodriguez currently leads the Carolina League in homeruns (11) while also being eighth in the CL in average (.293). Born in Santiago, Dominic Republic, Rodriguez was signed as a non-drafted international free agent with the Indians all the way back in 2009 at the age of 16. Originally a second baseman, he made the transition to center to join a Lynchburg outfield that boasts three former first round draft picks. Rodriguez has still managed to standout in the crowded outfield by showing off the power stick to go along with his speed. He was ranked as the Fastest Baserunner in the Cleveland system at the end of 2011 and 2012 and has drawn comparisons from scouts to former Indians great Kenny Lofton. Papi was originally drafted by the Angels out of high school, but declined their 30th-round selection to attend Virginia where he became a star for the Cavaliers. He won the Atlantic Coast Conference batting title his sophomore season and then led the Conference in homeruns his junior year, when his team spent most of the season ranked as No. 1 in the country, even advancing to the College World Series where they fell to Vanderbilt. Papi ended up being the 34th overall pick in the 2014 draft and signed with Cleveland for a reported $1.25 million. Coming into 2015, Papi had hit just a combined.181 at Short-Season and Low-A in Despite some struggles from the starting rotation this season, the Hillcats bullpen has been bolstered by the performance of Justin Brantley. Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Indians in February of 2014 out of Siena College in New York, Brantley may have been given a look because of his ties to Major League Baseball. He is the cousin of current Cleveland star Michael Brantley and the nephew of former big leaguer Mickey Brantley. Aside from his family ties, Brantley also pointed to Roy Halladay as one of his major influences. He got to pick Halladay s brain when his uncle was coaching with the Toronto Blue Jays. Brantley looked poised to be a late-round draft pick out of Siena, but inconsistent mechanics in his last two years moved him out of the draft. It appears as though Brantley has made steps to correct the mechanics. He is currently posting a 1.83 ERA in 21 appearances for Lynchburg, a number that shrinks to 1.05 when he pitches on the road.

3 TONIGHT S BLUE ROCKS STARTING PITCHER #24 RHP Jakob Junis Acquired: Selected in the 29th round of the June 2011 Amateur Draft Born: September 16, 1992 in Jacksonville, AR Age: 22 Resides: Rock Falls, IL Ht: 6-2 Wt: 225 College: None Bats/Throws: Right/Right Pitch Repertoire: Fastball, Changeup, Curveball Jakob Junis: In his fourth year of professional baseball, Jakob Junis was a 29th-round pick by the Royals out of the 2011 draft. The righty was born in Jacksonville, Arkansas, but grew up in Rock Falls, Illinois. He began his career with the Burlington Royals in the Appalachian League, with his pro debut coming on June 19, 2012 against Pulaski. In that contest, he threw five scoreless innings, allowing only five hits. Junis first pitched in full season ball last year with the Low-A Lexington Legends, and was even their opening day starter. Last Time Out: The right-hander made a brief trip to Double-A just before the Blue Rocks All-Star break. In a spot start Wilmington s Opening Day starter allowed five runs (four earned) in four frames for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Junis fanned three and walked one, calling it afterward a terrific learning experience. Obviously it s great to get a chance to move up and see the next step in what we are working forward, Junis said. More Than Just Baseball: Junis was obviously a standout on the diamond during his high school days, but he also excelled in basketball before turning pro. While Junis dominated on the mound for Rock Falls High in Illinois as a senior, notching a 1.10 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched, he was an All-State performer in basketball as well. The righty s last outing with the Rocks came on June 16 against Salem. He took a nodecision despite not allowing an earned run. Junis biggest problem was command, he walked one and hit two more batters. Two of those three runers would end up scoring (although both runs were unearned). They Said It (Junis on playing multiple sports): I love basketball. (I m a) big fan of basketball, still follow it a lot. I think it s good to play multiple sports, I mean I was always growing up playing basketball (and) baseball. It s good to have that background. I don t think I d be the athlete I am today if I didn t play basketball and just played baseball, so I m very fortunate that I did have the opportunity to play all through high school and achieve what I did in basketball, because it really made me the competitor I am today. Playing really hard (and) getting pushed by those coaches (was important), and not just on the baseball spiel Appearances The Book on Jakob (2015) At Home: 2-2, 2.88 ERA On the Road: 1-3, 5.00 ERA LH Opp Avg:.262 RH Opp Avg:.235 Record when he pitches: 3-5 Wilmington Record when he starts: 6-7 Run Support (overall): 2.9 Run Support (starting): 2.9 ERA: 3.62 Season-High K s: Career-High K s: Last Win: Last Loss: Most IP, 2015: Most IP, Career: 8, 2x last (5-13) vs Potomac 12 ( ) vs. Billings 6-5 vs. Frederick 6-11 at Winston-Salem 9.0 (5-19) vs Winston-Salem 9.0 last ( ) vs. Winston-Salem He s Been Everywhere, Man: When Junis was young, he played overseas in both Puerto Rico and Japan. His time in Puerto Rico came first, followed by a trip to Japan when he was a teenager. The Japan experience was Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP with USSSA All-American (Burlington) They Said It (Junis on playing overseas): When I was 10, 11, and 12 (years old), I went to Puerto Rico 2013 (Idaho Falls) and played in a world series over there. That was a great experience, (and) a lot of fun. (I) went to Japan when I was 16 (years old) I believe, and that was for USSSA All-American, and that was a totally different 2014 (Lexington) experience than Puerto Rico if you can imagine that. It s good to kind of get to play in all these kinds of 2015 (NWA) places and kind of see other kinds of players and kind of try and pick up on little things they may do and kind of put it towards your game (Wilmington) Totals A Tough Call: Junis decided to begin his pro career straight out of high school, but he certainly didn t have to. He had a chance to pitch collegiately at North Carolina State before signing with Kansas City, but passed up the opportunity for a reported $675, They Said It (Junis on signing out of high school): That was the toughest decision of my life. I was torn. (It) came down to one of the very last few days before the signing deadline, and it was very hard to pass that up, because I had a really good relationship with those guys at NC State. It was a very tough decision, and me and my family ultimately came to the conclusion that it s best to sign, and I haven t looked back since. A lot of my friends went to the University of Delaware so I definitely like to play here. It helps out the family a lot because they get to come down and watch games whenever they want...(the 2014 Carolina/California League All-Star game) was a great experience being here in Wilmington in front of all the same fans. Me, only living about an hour away, my family and friends came and got to see the game. A lot of the players in that game are definitely going to be playing in the big leagues someday so it was a cool experience to meet some of those guys and play beside them...i shortened my swing up a little bit. The first half of last year I struggled and the second half I kind of put things together and figured out who I am as a hitter. Hopefully I can keep going forward from where I ended up last year. #7 Carlos Garcia, IF 5-10, 172 Lives: Margarita, Venezuela LG: June 30 at FRE: 1-4 Road Trip: 4-9, 3R, BB Notes: Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Royals on His father, Carlos Albert Garcia, also spent time in pro ball. I ve been talking to Abraham Nunez I ve known him for two or three years, he s a really good hitting coach. He s been talking to me about my feel for the type of ballpark we have in Wilmington. The ball doesn t really fly there so we have to keep swinging at the pitches down. Get some hard groundballs and line drives. I think I ve been keeping concentrated on hitting the ball on the ground and I ve been feeling really good with that. #37 Dexter Kjerstad, OF 6-1, 210 Lives: Amarillo, TX LG: June 28 at FRE: 0-2, R Road Trip: 0-2, R Notes: Signed as non-drafted free agent by Kansas City Royals on July 11, Graduate of Amarillo s Randall High in Batted.470 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs to earn All-State honors senior year...played one season at University of Texas before transferring to Howard College in Big Spring, TX...Transferred to Louisiana-Lafayette, winning Louisiana Newcomer of the Year and All-Sun Belt Conference honors in Led conference with.388 average and finished two hits short of single season school record - Did not play professionally in 2013 due to Tommy John Surgery - Spent entire season with Low-A Lexington (.275, 6 HR, 33 RBIs) - May 25: Pro debut against Savannah (2-4, 2B, 2R) - Hit first pro home run on June 11 against Asheville - Month of July: Hit.315 in 26 games (3 2B, 3 3B, 3 HR, 12 RBI s) - Notched a.500 batting average in six at-bats with the bases loaded, including a grad slam on July 1 against Greensboro - April 23: Added to Wilmington Active Roster - April 25: Made Adv.-A debut at FRE (1-4, 2K) - May 13 vs POT: First multi-hit game of season (2-for-4) - May 16 at LYN: First HR of season (pinch-hit 3-R HR in ninth inning) - May 31 at CAR (Gm. 1): First three-hit game at Advanced-A (3-3, 2B) - Named Blue Rocks Hitter of the Month in May by Royals organization (.308, HR, 3B, 2 2B, 6 RBI, 3 R in 21 games) - Has two homeruns this season (5/16 at LYN and 6/4 vs FRE) both goahead homers in Rocks wins They said it: I think, as a whole, we re playing really well. We ve played in a lot of close ballgames and we ve held a lot of close games together...i feel like I m starting to see the ball better and in the outfield I m really going after balls...one of the things I like to do is keep up with my college team, the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns. I just fell into the right place at the right time with them and I learned about character and the things it takes to be a man, which goes in line with how the Royals run things.

As you ve seen the last two years I ve been on and off, more on the off side. Just being more consistent and going out there and battling every at-bat...(seeing the Royals in the World Series) was awesome. I wish nothing but the best for those guys, especially Terrance [Gore] and [Brandon Finnegan]. They were just with us here last year and you ve got to wish them nothing but the best. You get chills once you see what this organization has gone through and where we re at now... Alcides Escobar is somebody that a lot of infielders look up to. The way he plays defense, the way he steals bases, the way he produces hitting and everything he does. Overall, he is a great player so somebody like him. #41 Santiago Nessy, C 6-2, 230 Lives: Caracas, Venezuela LG: June 30 at FRE: 1-4, 2B, K Road Trip: 1-9, RBI, 2B, 3K Notes: Acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on in exchange for RHP Liam Hendricks. Mentally, I have a positive mind. Being positive helps a lot. Obviously, working with Abraham Nunez, our hitting coach, has been great. We have fun in the cage. We re building a new routine because the routine I had before wasn t working because it was tough on me coming off an injury. I just keep working hard in the cage with Abraham... Obviously, catching and hitting (with Kansas City) is new for me. I care a lot about catching because that s my position and I need to take care of the pitchers. I need to make them feel comfortable. It s been hard for me to learn every pitcher. I m still learning (Cody) Reed and (Eric) Skoglund and all of those guys, because they are new to me. It s been fun to work with those guys and with the staff. #12 Logan Moon, OF 6-5, 206 Lives: Blue Springs, MO LG: June 30 at FRE: 2-4, 2 2B Road Trip: 4-9, R, 2 2B Notes: Selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 6th round of the 2014 June Amateur Player Draft. I love it. He expects you to come work hard and be on time. As long as you re playing hard and on time, you re not going to have many problems. I enjoy playing for him and I like him as a guy as well...i struggled with everything; it s baseball. Everything is hard. I worked on a little bit of everything; hitting the fastball, curveballs, staying through pitches, reads in the outfield, and base running. I literally tried to work on every aspect of my game this offseason... I don t know (what to expect from transition from Rookie level to Adv.-A). I was only in [Burlington] for one year so I don t know what kind of transition I m looking at. I m not really worried about it. I m just going to come here and play hard. I ll control what I can control. #9 Robert Pehl, IF 6-1, 205 Lives: Chehalis, WA LG: June 30 at FRE: 0-3 Road Trip: 0-6, BB, K Notes: Selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 11th round of the 2014 June Amateur Draft. I think that s something that will help carry over to this ballpark, especially with how big it is. You ve got to really focus on your approach and not try to do too much here or else you are going to fly out a lot, so I think that s something I picked up in Idaho that will definitely help out here...(jumping from Rookie level to Adv.-A) was a great accomplishment. Coming out of Spring Training, I felt like I swung the bat well down in Arizona. I got here by just taking it a day at a time, trying to be professional, working on my routine, and just see-ball-hit-ball and keep it as simple as possible. I plan to follow that. It s still baseball no matter where you re playing at...one of my favorite players of all-time is Edgar Martinez. I try to model my approach [after him]. He was a good gap-to-gap hitter and hit for average.if I hit like that I d be plenty happy with my career.

10 BLUE ROCKS HITTERS NOTES #29 Mauricio Ramos, IF 6-1, 181 Lives: Cartagena, Colombia LG: June 30 at FRE: 3-3, R, HR, RBI, BB Road Trip: 6-11, 2HR, 5RBI, 2R, 2BB Notes: Signed as a non-drafted free agent on August 26, Named 2011 Rookie of the Year in the Colombian Winter League... (left-center and right-center) is my approach. When I hit the ball hard I m always thinking double...i don t always think offensively, baseball is offense and defense. If someday I m not hitting well, I try to practice my defense, too. #34 Cody Stubbs, IF/OF 6-3, 215 Lives: Cherokee, NC LG: June 30 at FRE: 0-4 Road Trip: 1-8, RBI, K Notes: Selected in the eighth round of the 2013 draft by the Kansas City Royals. I m just trying to stay consistent and try to help as much as I can...my college experience, esepcially my senior year, was a wild ride. The regional game against Florida Atlantic was a crazy memory. Other than that, just good to have a little taste here and know the facilities and everything, and know most of the guys, so I m looking forward to the season...(being named Lexington player of the year) is all in the past now.
