1 MEDIA INFORMATION Wilmington Blue Rocks (36-31) Carolina League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals vs. Frederick Keys (31-36) Carolina League Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles Game No. 68 Road Game No. 33 Nymeo Field Friday, June 19, :00 p.m. BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN HOME: AWAY: STREAK: W1 LAST 5: 2-3 LAST 10: 3-7 MAGIC NUMBER DOWN TO ONE: A brilliant effort from pitcher Alec Mills, plus one swing of the bat by Cody Stubbs, propelled Wilmington to a 2-0 win over the Frederick Keys and brought the Blue Rocks to the precipice of a first-half Carolina League Northern Division championship. Mills went 8.1 scoreless frames and then Luis Rico got the final two outs for the save. The Blue Crew s magic number is down to one thanks to Thursday s victory plus Lynchburg s rainout at Myrtle Beach. Wilmington leads the Hillcats by 3.5 games with three contests remaining for the Rocks and four to go for Lynchburg. Frederick was eliminated from contention with the loss. MILLS THE MAGNIFICENT: Alec Mills turned in a career-long outing for the second time in as many starts. The right-hander went eight innings in a no-decision at Salem in his previous outing on Saturday, but went 8.1 frames en route to the win this time. The Carolina League All-Star allowed just three hits, walked only one, fanned seven and got 23 of his 25 outs without allowing the ball out of the infield. Coming into the season, the fourth-year pro had never made it past seven frames in any start. Only Jakob Junis has worked deeper into a game in Junis went nine frames, but took a no-decision against Winston-Salem on May 19. Mills has not allowed a run over his last 16.1 frames of work, the longest scoreless streak by any Blue Rock this season. The Carolina League All-Star ranks third in the circuit with a 2.34 ERA, and second with 75 strikeouts. DOUBLE THE FUN: Frank Schwindel roped another double on Thursday. The Wilmington infielder now has 22 two-baggers this season. Schwindel had 32 doubles combined at Low-A and Advanced-A in 118 games last season. Thursday was only his 61st game of He went 1-for-3 overall though, and has just eight hits over his last 43 at bats. Schwindel does love hitting against the Keys, however. The New Jersey native is batting.340 with 10 two-baggers and eight RBIs in 13 games versus Frederick this year. FIRST-HALF FURY: The Blue Rocks shrunk their magic number to clinch a first-half Carolina League Northern Division title to one with their victory on Thursday evening. One more victory, or one more loss by the Lynchburg Hillcats, would give the Blue Crew the first-half crown and the playoff berth that comes with it. The last time Wilmington claimed a first-half division title was back in 2006 as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. That team included future major leaguers such as Michael Bowden, Clay Buchholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Tommy Hottovy, Jed Lowrie, Justin Masterson, Luis Mendoza, and Carlos Rosa. In the game that clinched the first-half for the Rocks that year, Wilmington sealed the deal on a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the bottom of the ninth, with Ellsbury scoring the game-winning run. The last time the Blue Crew won a first-half crown as an affiliate of the Kansas City Royals was back in 2002, when the Rocks won both halves. ALL-STAR QUARTET: The Carolina League announced on Thursday that four Wilmington Blue Rocks have been named to the eight-team loop s midseason All-Star team. Pitchers Alec Mills, Cody Reed and Eric Skoglund and infielder Ramon Torres will represent the league against the California League All-Stars in Rancho Cucamonga, CA on Tuesday, June 23. The four All-Stars are tied with Winston-Salem and Frederick for the most among any Carolina League team THEY SAID IT, CATCHER, CAM GALLAGHER: (Alec Mills) even looked better tonight (than his last time out). That last time, too, in Salem he was throwing everything for strikes, same thing for today. He was putting people away with two strikes. Everything he was throwing: off-speed, changeup, curveball, slider, everything he was getting ahead with. Once you get ahead with that, it s pretty tough to hit off him...(cody Stubbs homerun) was big. I think we were pressing a little bit as a team, trying to clinch the first half. We had a meeting yesterday just trying to lay back and have fun. That was huge. It kind of took the weight off of our shoulders and let us relax and go back and have fun playing baseball like we have for all of the first half...yes (my heart dropped when Wynston Sawyer hit the final out). I thought it went over (the fence). It was kind of a weird play. (Logan) Moon was telling me that (Abraham Nunez) told him to come in ten steps about ten seconds before that pitch was thrown, but he s a great outfielder and he got to it and made the catch...it s always big (to celebrate with a win). We kind of wanted to see what (Lynchburg) did tonight, obviously it s a lot better celebrating after our win. Now they have to go out and sweep Myrtle Beach who is also in contention (for a first-half title), so they re going to be trying to win their first half. We ve just got to go out and play baseball and not look at it and take care of business the way we have...(we like our chances). It s definitely a lot better to be in our shoes than Lynchburg right now, but we can t lay back, we ve just got to go out and play baseball. Not too much pressure, just go and have fun. Today s Starters WIL: RHP Yender Caramo (3-5, 3.49) vs. FRE: RHP Mikey O Brien (2-2, 5.79) Yender Caramo gets the ball tonight for the Wilmington Blue Rocks. A native of San Felix, Bolivar, Venezuela, Caramo entered the Kansas City organization as an undrafted free agent on November 22, Friday will mark the righty s 14th game of the season, but just his ninth start in 2015 after spending the first part of his year piggybacking with Luis Rico. Caramo has hit a bit of a rough patch recently, as he has gone no more than 4.1 innings in his last four games (three starts). Despite his troubles with length, he has managed to keep his pinpoint control. Caramo has only walked five batters in 56.2 innings this season. He has also struck out just 28 batters in that span, making him the ultimate pitch-to-contact hurler. His last time out came back on June 14 at Salem. In that contest, he went four frames, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out a single batter. A rain delay of more than an hour ended Caramo s day after those four innings. Friday will be his fifth straight appearance on the road. Chris Lee will take the mound tonight for the Frederick Keys. Lee was born in Savannah, Georgia, and was originally a fourthround pick by the Houston Astros in the 2011 draft out of Santa Fe College in Florida. The lefty spent his first three professional seasons in Rookie-Ball until finally moving up to Low-A Quad Cities in In that year, Lee pitched in 28 games with 16 starts, recording an 8-6 record with a 3.66 ERA in 113 innings. The 22-year-old began this season with Quad Cities before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles organization in May for international bonus slots. Lee was assigned to Frederick upon switching affiliations, and has made five starts for the Keys thus far, producing a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 5.79 in 23.1 innings. His most recent outing came on June 14 at Potomac. Lee tossed five frames, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks, striking out five and picking up the win in the process Regular-Season Series: WIL vs. FRE Date Site Result WP LP Save 4-16 WIL W, 3-2 Reed (2-0) Keller(0-1) None 4-17 WIL L, 6-4 Torres (1-0) Mills (0-1) Yacabonis (1) 4-18 WIL W, 4-3 Pruneda (1-0) Urban (0-1) Yambati (3) 4-19 WIL W, 4-3 Rico (1-0) Louico (1-1) None 4-23 FRE L, 6-4 Keller (1-1) Skoglund (1-1) Wheeler (2) 4-24 FRE L, 4-3 (11) Louico (2-1) Edwards (0-1) None 4-25 FRE L, 4-3 Nowottnick (1-0) Yambati (0-1) None 4-26 FRE W, 8-2 Farrell (1-0) Hess (1-2) Reed (1) 6-4 WIL W, 7-5 (7) Skoglund (4-2) Urban (0-3) Cordero (3) 6-5 WIL W, 5-1 Junis (3-4) Gonzalez (3-5) None 6-6 WIL W, 9-3 Reed (5-3) Delgado (0-1) None 6-7 WIL W, 7-4 McCarthy (2-0) Keller (3-4) Cordero (4) 6-18 FRE W, 2-0 Mills (5-3) O Brien (0-1) Rico (3) 6-19 FRE 6-20 FRE 6-21 FRE 6-28 FRE 6-29 FRE 6-30 FRE 7-7 WIL 7-8 WIL 7-9 WIL 7-15 WIL 7-16 WIL 7-17 WIL 7-18 WIL Upcoming Probable Starters and Schedule Saturday, June 20 at FRE 6:00 p.m. LHP Eric Skoglund (6-2, 2.77) vs. LHP Wei-Yen Chen WGLS-FM 89.7 Sunday, June 21 at FRE 2:00 p.m. RHP Jakob Junis (3-5, 3.62) vs. LHP Luis Gonzalez (4-6, 8.23) WGLS-FM 89.7 Monday, June 22 ALL-STAR BREAK RADIO: Rowan Radio, 89.7 WGLS-FM WEBCAST: wgls.rowan.edu or bluerocks.com Wilmington Blue Rocks Game Notes

Caronia certainly is not a hard guy to root for, as he has established himself as one of the nicest guys in the Orioles organization. In 2013, Caronia received the Elrod Hendricks Award, an honor given to a member of the Baltimore organization who exhibits excellence in community service. Duirng his time in Delmarva that year, Caronia was a regular at the local Little Leagues and summer baseball camps where he was an instructor. Nathans was not drafted by a Major League franchise out Fairfield University, so he decided to chase his baseball dream in the independent Canadian-American League where he played for the Newark Bears out of Newark, NJ. Nathans quickly became a standout with the Bears, winning Rookie of the Year honors in 2013 after collected 61 hits and 30 RBIs in 56 games played at second base. The Orioles toom notice and signed Nathans as a non-drafted free agent on February 28, Nathans is currently in his third year with Frederick. Nik Nowottnick has become a mainstay out of the Keys bullpen as he is second on the team in relief appearances. Nowottnick, though, is just happy to be playing for his hometown team. Nowottnick was born in Washington, D.C. where he grew up rooting for the O s. During his youth, Nowottnick wasn t a bad baseball player, either. In high school, he led his team to two Conference titles and earned All-Bayside Conference honors his senior year. Nowottnick attended Chesapeake Junior College for two years before transferring to Towson, where he would win a CAA Championship and go to the NCAA tournament with the Tigers, the first time Towson had made the dance in 22 years. The Rocks may get a chace to see Jimmy Yacabonis this weekend, as he is currently leading the Keys in relief appearances. Fans in the Delaware Valley have been watching Yacabonis for a long time. A product of New Jersey, Yacabonis attended St. Joseph s in Philadelphia where he played baseball and set the all-time school-record for saves in a season (10) his junior year. That season, Yacabonis also earned second team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Philadelphia Baseball Big 5 honors. A 13th round pick by Baltimore in 2013, Yacabonis was named a New York-Penn League All- Star in his first professional season.

3 TONIGHT S BLUE ROCKS STARTING PITCHER #26 RHP Yender Caramo Acquired: Signed as undrafted free agent November 22, 2010 Born: August 25, 1991 in San Felix, Bolivar, Venezuela Age: 23 Resides: San Felix, Bolivar, Venezuela Ht: 6-0 Wt: 205 College: N/A Bats/Throws: Right/Right Pitch Repertoire: Fastball, Changeup, Curveball Yender Caramo: In the midst of his fifth season in professional baseball, Yender Caramo returns to Wilmington for a second go-around with the Blue Rocks. The right-hander was born in San Felix, Bolivar, Venezuela, and he began his pro career in 2011 with the Dominican Summer League affiliate of the Royals. His professional debut came on May 31 against the league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In that contest, Caramo tossed three shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. Later that season, he recorded the first and only complete game of his career, a six-inning shutout of the DSL Pirates. Caramo holds the distinction of skipping a level in his pro career, as he went straight from Rookie ball in 2013 to the Adv.-A level in The Book on Yender (2015) Last Time Out: In his last outing, Caramo did not have his best stuff, and for the first time this season struggled with his command. Caramo threw two wild pitches and walked a batter after having thrown just one wild pitch in his first 12 outings of the season. Caramo did a good job of limiting damage, allowing just two runs through four innings. However, Mother Nature played a part as the skies opened up in the top of the fifth inning, leading to 1:09 rain delay, which ended Caramo s day. The only start this season for Caramo that was shorter was on May 28 against Potomac when he lasted just 3.0 innings. Caramo took his fifth loss as the Rocks were lost 7-0. A New Role: After pitching most of last season out of the bullpen, Caramo started this year as a starter/reliever, piggybacking with Luis Rico, but with Rico s last two relief appearances coming behind other starters, it looks like Caramo is now a permanent member of the starting rotation. This season, Caramo s splits between being a starter and a relievr have been similar, but he is better when starting games. Caramo is 2-4 with a 3.43 ERA in eight starts. He is posting a slightly higher 3.68 ERA in five appearances out of the bullpen. Idolizing a Winner: As a right-handed pitcher, Caramo considers former major league righty, Josh Beckett, to be a heavy influence on him. Beckett was a two-time World Series Champion, with his first ring coming in 2003 with the Florida Marlins, and his second coming in 2007 with the Boston Red Sox. They Said It (Caramo on Josh Beckett): I always liked Josh Beckett when I was coming up. I love his demeanor and the way he goes about his business on the mound. I always looked up to him. Control Freak: There aren t many pitchers at any level who have the control that Caramo does. The righty has thrown 56.2 innings in 2015, and has given up a mere five walks. He has only hit three batter in that span as well. Caramo is a guy who pitches to contact in general, as he has only struck out 28 batters all season long. In no start has Caramo given up more than a single walk, and his season-high in strikeouts in a game is five, which he did on May 22 vs. the Carolina Mudcats. The Old Guard: Caramo is the only Rocks hurler on the current roster to have spent time on the Riverfront in Caramo spent the entirety of last season in Wilmington, being just one of four current Blue Rocks to hold that distinction (Jack Lopez, Cam Gallagher, Cody Stubbs). Last season, Caramo went 4-8 with a 3.59 ERA in 35 appearances. He started his season in the starting rotation, but after going just 1-3 with a 4.50 ERA in four starts, he made the transition to the bullpen where he settled in, posting a 3.30 ERA in 31 relief appearances Appearances At Home: 1-1, 2.19 ERA On the Road: 2-4, 4.50 ERA LH Opp Avg:.312 RH Opp Avg:.302 Record when he pitches: 3-5 Wilmington Record when he starts: 4-4 Run Support (overall): 2.8 Run Support (starting): 2.6 ERA: 3.49 Season-High K s: Career-High K s: Last Win: Last Loss: Most IP, 2015: Most IP, Career: 5 (5-22 vs. Carolina) 7 ( ) vs. Hagerstown 6-2 at Carolina 6-14 at Salem 7.0, (5-12) vs Potomac 7.0, ( ) vs Potomac Career Numbers Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP 2011 (DSL Royals) (Burlington) (Idaho Falls) (Wilmington) (Wilmington) Totals Date OPP G GS DEC ERA IP H R ER BB SO HR HBP WP Score Upon Exit Result Notes Apr. 1 0 ND MB 7-1 L, 9-1 Season debut Apr. 2 0 L CAR 4-3 L, 4-3 Gave up walk-off single Apr. 19 FRE 3 1 ND W, 4-3 First start of season Apr. 4 1 ND L, 4-3 Gave up lead in 10th inning Apr. 30 MB 5 2 ND W, 6-4 Pitched 300th career inning in game May 6 3 W WIL 3-1 W, 3-1 First win of season May 12 POT 7 4 L POT 2-0 L, 2-0 Faced minimum in first five innings May 8 4 ND LYN 5-1 L, 7-2 First outing not allowing an earned run May 22 CAR 9 5 W WIL 3-1 W, 3-1 Season-high in strikeouts May 10 6 L POT 4-2 L, 8-3 Shortest start of the season June 11 6 W WIL 6-5 W, 6-5 First win in relief June 12 7 L WIL 3-3 L, 4-3 Left in fifth responsible for winning run June 13 8 L SAL 2-0 L, 7-0 Left after rain 1:09 rain delay in fifth
