REBELS BEGIN SECOND HALF OF MOUNTAIN WEST SLATE IN BOISE With the first half of the Mountain West slate in the rearview mirror, the UNLV softball team will begin the second half on the road for a three-game series at Boise State, April First pitch of the weekend is set for Friday, April 13 at 4 p.m. MT/3 p.m. PT. Saturday's game has been moved to 1 p.m. MT/12 p.m. PT with the series wrapping up Sunday at 12 p.m. MT/11 a.m. PT. The last four regular season series will be challenging ones for the Rebels as all four opponents - Boise State, UNR, Fresno State and Colorado State - all currently sit ahead of them in the league standings. The Scarlet and Gray enter the weekend in Boise having lost its last three MW series, but did get a 3-2 win over San Diego State in its last outing Sunday to end a seven game conference skid. The Rebels are tied for sixth at 4-8, while the Broncos are alone in third place at 6-3. In the series opener, the Rebels erased a two-run deficit in the fourth inning, eventually sending the game to extra innings, but SDSU scored three in the top of the ninth to take game one. UNLV was also undone by late Aztec runs in game two as the visitors scored four over the sixth and seventh innings to win 4-1 and snatch the series. The Rebels were able to salvage a win out of the weekend with Sunday's 3-2 finale victory. UNLV will have its work cut out for it this weekend as Boise State has lost just 11 games all year and is the top offensive team in the Mountain West. The Broncos are coming off their league bye and will head into the weekend having won six straight and nine of their last 10. Boise State ranks first in nearly every major statistical category, including a.360 batting, 268 runs scored, 388 hits, 234 RBI and a whopping 37 home runs, so the Rebel pitching staff and defense will need to be sharp to limit the Broncos at the plate. The Rebels will also have to try and take advantage of a Boise State pitching staff that hasn't been as strong as the other side of the ball as they rank fifth in ERA at After the series in Boise, the Scarlet and Gray will have its conference bye week before welcoming in-state rival UNR for its annual Governor's Series matchup with the Wolf Pack at Eller Media Stadium, April RANKING THE REBELS Mountain West: Overall UNLV leads the conference in fielding percentage (.974), is second in ERA (2.83) and ranks seventh with a.277 batting average. The Rebels are sixth with 272 hits and are eighth in both RBI (122) and runs scored (140). Rebel pitchers are first in the conference in innings pitched at 252.1, third in opposing batting average (.268), fourth in strikeouts (177) and first in batters struck out looking (72). Individually, Janine Petmecky's 2.04 ERA leads the MW, while her.237 opposing batting average is sixth and her 103 strikeouts are third. NCAA: UNLV is 18th in the country in fielding percentage (.974) RPI: UNLV ranks No. 132 in the current RPI standings QUICK HITTERS The Rebels snapped a seven-game Mountain West losing skid with Sunday's 3-2 win over San Diego State. UNLV finished its 2018 non-conference slate with a 18-7 record overall. UNLV's 20-8 record through the first 28 game was the program's best start since the 1996 squad had the same record to start the season. UNLV has only committed 28 errors in 37 games this season, while their opponents have committed 48. The Rebels enter the weekend having lost its last three MW series and has only one MW series win this season - at New Mexico, March If the Rebels can score first, they have a good shot to win as they are 16-3 when that occurs. They had started the season 13-0 in that category, but have gone 3-3 since in those instances. The Rebels have only lost once when they've out-hit their opponent at 15-1, but are 6-11 when out-hit by their opponents. That sixth win came Sunday against the Aztecs as they were out-hit 11-7 in the game, but still managed to win 3-2. Season Streaks: The Rebels have two separate fourgame win streaks, while their longest losing streak in Comparing The Competition... UNLV... Opponents 2018 is five games. Their longest Mountain West winning streak is two, while their longest MW losing batting Average streak is seven. Individual Streaks: Junior Myranda Bueno, who Runs returned to the lineup against New Mexico March Hits after suffering a facial injury in Houston, has the longest hitting streak of the season at 10. Freshman RBI Mia Trejo at one point had reached base safely in Slugging Pct straight games, which is the longest such streak this season, and currently has another streak of seven and a On-Base Pct hitting streak of five heading into the weekend. Fellow freshman Samantha Diaz will also go into the weekend Stolen Bases with a streak as she has registered at least one hit in fielding Pct eight straight games. Petmecky hits 100 strikeout mark: Senior Janine ERA Petmecky went over 100 strikeouts on the year this Shutouts...5 past weekend. Her 103 strikeouts are a new career-high and are particularly impressive considering she didn't Strikeouts pitch one inning as a junior last season and her previous career high for a single season was 35. She is also Base-on-Balls...81 is just six Ks away from matching former Rebel Morgan Ettinger's 109 from a year ago with 12 games left to play. Underclassmen Success: While the offense has seen some struggles during conference play, two underclassmen have emerged at the plate - sophomore Reina Bondi and freshman Mia Trejo. During MW play, leads the way at the plate with a.406 average, while Bondi is second at.342. The pair have identical hits (13) and runs scored (6) during league games, with Bondi batting in six runs and Trejo batting in four. The two have also combined for three doubles, one triple and one home run. The pair also performed well against San Diego State, combining for eight of the Rebels' 22 hits on the weekend and three of the six runs batted in. Marshall Clutch: She hasn't seen a ton of time at the plate or on the field, but Devynn Marshall has been clutch when she gets the opportunity. The freshman has just 21 at-bats but has eight hits in those at-bats for a.381 average, with the majority of those hits coming in pinch-hit situations. She also has four runs batted in on those eight hits. Petmecky has struggled a bit during conference action, due in part to low run support, and had another tough loss in the series opener against the Aztecs, pitching solidly into the ninth inning before SDSU tagged her for three runs in the eventual 5-2 loss. She bounced back in Sunday's finale, giving up just two runs in 4.0 innings, but it was her bat that secured the win as her two-out two-rbi single in the second proved to be the difference in the game. It was her 14th win of the season and third in league play.

4 The Rebel pitching staff has a combined 2.83 ERA, which is second in the Mountain West, despite the recent string of conference losses. Petmecky leads the way with a 2.05 ERA (first in the MW), a 14-5 record and 103 strikeouts (third in the MW). Opposing batters are hitting.237 off her, which is sixth in the conference. Senior third baseman Jade Yadao-Valdez is third on the team with a career-high.303 average this season and is third with 30 hits. Against Utah State a few weeks ago, she swiped her 13th stolen base of the season, marking a new career high. Fellow senior Brooke Stover has also hdd a productive final season at the plate. Her.295 average is fourth on the team, while her 31 hits are second and her 19 RBI are tied for second. Trejo leads the team with 12 multi-hit games this season, while Stover has a team-best six multi-rbi games. Overall, Trejo and Stover have combined fo 19 multi-hit games and 10 multi-rbi games. After having one run-rule victory all of last season, the Rebels already have four this season, which included two straight from the series finale in New Mexico to the series opener against Utah State. The Rebels swept the Mountain West weekly honors on March 13 with Petmecky earning Pitcher of the Week and Yadao-Valdez earning Player of the Week. It marked the first pitcher of the week and second player of the week honor for UNLV this season as freshman Samantha Diaz already earned the honor once this season on Feb. 21. It marked just the third time since 2011 a pair of Rebels have earned the honor in the same week. In total, the Rebels have four come-from-behind wins this season. Two of them came in extra-inning walk-off fashion (6-5 over Buffalo in the eighth inning on Feb. 16 and a 3-2 walk-off win over North Dakota State on Friday, Feb. 9), while the third was a comeback win in Houston (a 6-5 win over UTSA thanks to a three-run top of the seventh) and the fourth was a 6-4 come-from-behind win at San Diego April 3 after trailing 4-3 heading into the sixth inning. UNLV has six shutouts on the season, with Petmecky responsible for four of them. Both Petmecky and sophomore pitcher Charlie Masterson have already recorded career highs in innings pitched, strikeouts and wins this season. UNLV is three wins shy of matching its total from all of 2017 with 12 games still left to play. SCOUTING BOISE STATE The Broncos are currently overall and enter the weekend in third place in the Mountain West at 6-3 after coming off their conference bye week. They've won six straight and nine of their last 10. Boise State is the top offensive team in the conference, ranking first in nearly every major statistical category, including a.360 batting, 268 runs scored, 388 hits, 234 RBI and a whopping 37 home runs BSU has seven players hitting over.300, with five of those hitting over.400. Rebekah Cervantes leads the way at the plate with a team-best 53 hits, 13 doubles, seven triples, 37 runs scored and 43 RBI. She is also tied for the team lead with seven home runs. In total, the Broncos spread it around with six different players recording 20 or more RBIs this year and eight players with 25 hits or more. The offense is the strength, but the pitching staff has stayed steady as well with a 3.28 ERA. Kelsey Broadus has a team-low 2.50 ERA and a team-high 93 strikeouts, but Gianna Mancha isn't too far behind with 75 strikeouts and a team-best 11 wins on the season against just three losses. The Broncos have used seven different pitchers this year, but Broadus and Mancha have seen a majority of the innings. One weakness the Rebels could take advantage of is the Bronco defense as they have just a.946 fielding percentage this year, which ranks seventh in the Mountain West. Boise State is coached by Cindy Ball, who is in her fourth season at the helm. 5 REBELS WELCOME NEW COACHING STAFF Head Coach - Kristie Fox Kristie Fox was named the sixth head coach in UNLV softball history on June 20, Fox has accumulated experience at the highest levels of softball as both a player and a coach, and comes to Las Vegas after spending five years as head coach at UT Arlington. At UT Arlington, Fox led the Mavericks to five consecutive conference tournament appearances and an increase in the team s win total in each of the last three seasons. Becoming one of the nation s youngest head coaches in 2012, she inherited a UT Arlington team that had won just 15 games during the previous season, failing to qualify for league tournament, but led it to 25 victories and a conference tournament berth in her first year. She was also instrumental in the school s recent $3 million renovation of the program s facility. A native of San Diego, Fox was a two-time All-American during her collegiate career at Arizona. She reached the pinnacle of the college game as she led the Wildcats to back-to-back NCAA Championships during her junior and senior years (2006 and 2007). As a senior, she set a Women's College World Series record with 11 hits, helping the school to its eighth national crown in softball. At the age of 26 she accepted her first head-coaching job (UT Arlington). In her five seasons there, she led the Mavericks to 134 wins. This past season, the team made its first conference tournament semifinal appearance, and won 32 games, marking the program s highest win total since The team also made its first postseason appearance since 2003, competing in the National Invitational Softball Championship. Under Fox, UT Arlington had seven all-conference selections and two NFCA All-Region team members, marking just the third and fourth all-region selections in program history. Prior to her time at UT Arlington, Fox was an assistant coach at Big 12-member Texas Tech, where she was recognized as one of the top assistants in the country. With the Red Raiders, Fox helped the team to the NCAA Regionals three straight years, marking a first for the program. She began her coaching career at her alma mater, serving as the undergraduate assistant for the Wildcats in 2008, while she completed her degree in psychology. She then spent a year as assistant coach at Murray State before moving on to Texas Tech prior to the 2010 season. Fox also boasts national team experience, both as a player and as a coach. A former member of the USA Elite Team, she earned a gold medal in the College World Games in Taiwan with Team USA in Over the past three years she has served as an assistant coach for the USA Junior Women's National Team. As a player, Fox finished her collegiate career ( ) with a.350 batting average, 260 hits and 230 RBI, while leading Arizona to a record over her four years. Her All-American honors followed her sophomore and junior seasons in 2005 and 2006, respectively. After her senior season, she was chosen in the first round of the 2007 National Professional Fastpitch League Draft by the Chicago Bandits. Assistant Coach - Andy Jarvis Andy Jarvis joined Fox's staff in August Jarvis follows Fox from the University of Texas- Arlington, where he served as Fox's assistant from before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2017 season. Together, Fox and Jarvis led the Mavericks to five consecutive conference tournament appearances and most recently their first postseason berth since 2003 as the team played in the National Invitational Softball Championship after a 32-win campaign last season. The 2017 season was also one of the best offensively in program history, with Jarvis helping the Mavericks set marks for runs scored, hits, and RBI, while posting the second-highest batting average all-time. The Renton, Washington native played baseball at Oregon State, where he was a four-year starter and three-time All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection. Jarvis remains in seven Oregon State all-time career top-10 record books and still owns the Beavers' single-game home run record (3, vs. Washington State ), the career RBI and total bases record and is tied for the career home run mark. Pitching Coach - Tina Andreana Tina Andreana joined Fox's staff in August 2017 and will serve as the primary pitching coach under Fox. Originally from Oakville, Ontario, Andreana joins Fox's staff after spending the 2017 season as the pitching coach for the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks.Prior to her stint in at UND, Andreana was a graduate assistant and pitching coach for Black Hills State for two seasons, which saw the Yellow Jackets earn their highest win total since moving up to Division II and the team's overall ERA reduced. Andreana was a three-year starting pitcher for Oregon State Softball from , where she helped the Beavers to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances in 2012 and 2013 in addition to earning a Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection in She also played for the Canadian Senior National Team and earned a bronze medal at the 2010 World Championships. After playing professionally at the minor league level for two seasons, Jarvis spent five seasons as a volunteer assistant baseball coach at Texas Tech, working with his former college coach Dan Spencer, who was the Red Raiders' associate head coach. During his time at TTU, the Red Raiders won 140 games, including 36 over ranked opponents, and saw 28 players selected in the Major League Draft.
