SCOUTING REPORT The Rams are led at the plate by Sarah Muzik, who is batting.411 on the season. As a team, Colorado State is third in the conference in batting average (.308) and slugging percentage (.468). In the circle, Bridgette Hutton has pitched more innings (157.1) than the other three pitchers on the Rams roster combined (125.1). Hutton is fifth in the conference in wins with 13, and has pitched 15 complete games on the season. Colorado State hasn t shied away from a tough schedule either, playing on the road at Texas and No. 12 Arizona, a neutral site game against No. 20 Minnesota, while also winning a three-game away series against Kansas. BATTLE FOR THE MOUNTAIN WEST Boise State no longer controls their destiny in the hunt for the program s first conference title, but the Broncos remain in the thick of the Mountain West race entering the final two weeks of the season. Boise State is currently in third-place, half a game behind San Jose State, and a full game behind Fresno State. If Boise State were to win their final six games of the season, paired with a loss by both Fresno State and San Jose State, the Broncos would win the conference title thanks to owning the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs. GET OUT YOUR BROOMS (x2) A week after sweeping Mountain West Player and Pitcher for the first time since 2012, Boise State did so for the second-consecutive week. The Broncos became the first program to sweep weekly honors since BYU had a share of the accolades from April 19 May 3. Alison Seng and Micaela Leal took home Player and Pitcher of the honors last week (April 24), followed by Rebekah Cervantes and Kelsey Broadus this past weekend (May 1). SENG MAKES HISTORY Currently sixth in the nation in batting average, Alison Seng became the first player in Mountain West history to become a finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA National Division I Freshman of the Year. Seng made the top 25 list, and will now wait for the list to be trimmed down to the top 10 on May 10, and the final three on May THE MAGIC NUMBER With 34 wins already on the season, the next win by the Broncos will set the program record for wins in a single season. With at least six games remaining on Boise State s schedule, Team X also has the opportunity to become the first 40-win team in program history. HIGHWAY DON T CARE The weekend series against UNLV (April 13-15) will be Boise State s first home games since March The Broncos are coming off an impressive 8-1 record during a ninegame stint on the road, which featured three doubleheaders and all nine games being played in a nine-day period. During the road stint, Boise State out-scored opponents over only 24 innings, and won three games by run-rule. HISTORIC SWEEP Boise State notched a historic sweep over Utah State (March 16-18). Boise State outscored the Aggies (+27) on the weekend, the largest run-differential in a threegame series as members of the Mountain West (2012-present). This was the first time Boise State has opened conference play with a sweep since 2012, and only the fifth sweep as members of the Mountain West. SENG NAMED MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK After batting.800 on the week, freshman Alison Seng was named the Mountain West Player of the Week (March 20) for the first time in her career. Seng is the second Bronco to earn the honor this season (Kora Wade, March 6). BACK-TO-BACK SHUTOUTS Boise State recorded back-to-back shutouts behind the arms of Gianna Mancha and Kelsey Broadus in wins over North Dakota State and Columbia on March 9. It is the first time Boise State has shutout opponents in back-to-back games since Christina Washington and Paige Reimann held New Mexico scoreless last season (May 11-12, 2017). It s also the first time Boise State has shutout two opponents on the same day since doing so against Maryland Eastshore and South Carolina State (Feb. 25, 2017) STRONG WEEKEND IN CALIFORNIA The Broncos posted a record of 4-1 at the UCR Classic, their second-consecutive weekend finishing a tournament with a winning record. Boise State outscored opponents enroute to ending the tournament on a 3-0 record WADE GARNES A MW HONOR Junior outfielder Kora Wade was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for games played through March 4. This is the first weekly honor Wade has received. Wade had a career weekend at the Red Desert Classic, going 11-for-17 with seven runs, two doubles and four RBIs. She was phenomenal running the bases, going a perfect seven-for-seven running the bases, including a career high three over Montana (March 2) tied for the second-highest single game total in program history. RIDING A HOT HAND After struggling to get above.500 for more than a day, Boise State broke off a three-game winning streak to close out the Red Desert Classic. The Broncos went 4-1 on the weekend, but won their final three games, downing Southern Utah (10-1), Montana (8-0) and Weber State (9-1). All three games were won in five innings due to the eightrun rule. This was the first time in program history that Boise State won three-consecutive games in five innings, and only the second time Boise State has run-ruled three-straight opponents.

3 LEAVE IT IN VEGAS The Broncos went 2-3 in Las Vegas at the Marucci Desert Classic, winning games against UTEP (8-2) and Buffalo (7-3), but dropping contests against Iowa State (7-2), Long Beach State (5-1) and Hawai i (3-1). Boise State is currently on a two-game losing streak. THREE UP THREE DOWN Boise State went 3-3 to open the season at the Kajikawa Classic (Feb. 8-11), their best start to a season since opening the 2015 season, 3-3 at the North Texas Tournament. Boise State nabbed wins over South Dakota (11-3) and Saint Mary s (13-5), while also surviving a 7-6 game against Big Ten opponent Indiana. CERVANTES NAMED AN ALL-AMERICAN Junior Rebekah Cervantes will enter the 2018 season as a preseason All-American, according to Fast Pitch News. The outlet named the shortstop to their 15-member first-team preaseason All-American. Cervantes is one of two Mountain West players to enter the season on the first-team, and one of four players from mid-major conferences. BOUNCE BACK YEAR 2017 was a bounce back year for the Broncos. After opening her career with a record through her first two seasons, head coach Cindy Ball led a historic turnaround of the program. Boise State saw the largest turnaround nationally in both RPI and overall record -- rising 131 spots in the RPI from 2016, as well as seeing a 19-win improvement. HISTORIC SEASON The Broncos reached the postseason for the first time in program history in the 2017 season. Boise State reached the Ogden Regional Final of the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) -- the softball version of the NIT. The Broncos ended the season with a record. The 33 wins rank tied for second in program history with 2011 season (33-20), and is one win shy of the program record of (2012). QUICK ACLIMIZATION The Broncos will open the 2018 season on Feb.8, and in the first month of the season, Boise State will play 21 games in 31 days, while logging over 9,528 miles of travel. The Broncos will 11 games in the first 10 days of the season. COMPETITIVE NONCONFERENCE SLATE Six opponents on the nonconference scheduled ended 2017 in the top 100 of the NCAA RPI, led by No. 12 Tenessee. The first weekend of the season will present the Broncos with a stiff challenge, as Northwestern (65) and Stanford (83) also ended last year in the top 100. The 2017 Broncos reached the Regional Title Game of the National Invitational Softball Championship. After a combined record in her first two seasons, Ball led a turnaround of the program, finishing 2017 with a record. The 33 wins are tied for second for the most in a season in program history. Under her watch, the 2017 team finished the season ranked in the top 25 nationally in three categories: batting average (8th), double plays (5th) and runs scored per game (23rd). Ball also helped Boise State finish with a record in Mountain West play, the most conference wins in her tenure. Ball s first season as the Bronco boss concluded with a record and a 4-20 mark in Mountain West play. Boise State, however, ended the season strong at home, capturing two of its final three home series in conference play (Nevada, Colorado State). Along with the performances of All-Mountain West payers Devon Bridges and Jordan Kreiger, Ball helped develop the next wave of Broncos as freshmen Sara Ketelsleger (.278, 45 hits, 12 doubles, 26 RBI) and Makenzie Sullivan (.259, 37 hits, 13 doubles, six home runs, 30 RBI) as well as junior-college transfer Teauna Hughes (.263, 36 hits, nine doubles, four home runs, 17 RBI) had strong campaigns in Ball brought four years experience as a head coach as well as eight years as a Division I assistant coach with her to Boise. She spent the seasons as an assistant at Cal State Northridge, and served on the coaching staff at Washington for the campaigns after serving as head coach at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, Calif. from At Cal State Northridge, Ball worked primarily with the pitching staff while also assisting with the Matador outfielders. Ball helped develop two NFCA All-West Region selections in 2014, as freshman outfielder Taylor Glover earned a spot on the first team, becoming the first Matador field player named all-region since 2004, and junior pitcher Brianna Elder was tabbed for the third team. Glover and Elder were each named to the All-Big West First Team while Glover also earned a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team. In two seasons at Washington, Ball served as recruiting coordinator and was responsible for the development of a Husky pitching staff which produced second-team All-American Kaitlin Inglesby in The Huskies went during Ball s two seasons in Seattle and reached a pair of NCAA Super Regionals. She began her collegiate head-coaching career at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, Calif., where in 2007 she led the program to a 16-win improvement from the prior campaign, going and capturing a regional title. Ball then took the helm at Cosumnes River College, overseeing the restart of the program after a year s break in Over three seasons Ball guided the Hawks to a record, highlighted by an appearance at the Cal JC State Final Four Tournament in Ball began her coaching career in the season following her graduation from the University of Pacific in While working towards her master s degree in education, she served on the Pacific staff during the seasons. At Pacific, Ball served as pitching coach while helping scout, assist with practice plans, monitor students academics and promoting and organizing camps. Over her four years in Stockton the Tigers accumulated an overall record of with a mark in the Big West. During her four-year playing career at Pacific ( ), Ball was twice named an NFCA All-American ( ) and Big West Pitcher of the Year ( ) as the Tigers went and made three NCAA Tournament appearances (1999, ). She enjoyed her best season in 2001, going 33-9 while helping lead Pacific to a still-standing school-record 50 wins. She was just as dangerous at the plate as in the circle, batting.275 over four seasons with 19 home runs, 111 runs batted in and drawing 76 walks.
