Boise State spends the first two days of its trip at the Easton Tournament, hosted by Cal State Fullerton. Friday, the Broncos take on Nebraska at 11 a.m. MT, then have a long break before meeting the host Titans at 8:30 p.m. MT. The Broncos play two back-to-back Saturday, opening with Charleston Southern at 11 a.m. MT followed by DePaul at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the weekend ends with a doubleheader at CSU Bakersfield, as the Broncos and Roadrunners clash at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. MT. Against This Weekend s Opposition Boise State and Nebraska met for the first time at last year s Mary Nutter Classic, with the Cornhuskers taking a 4-0 victory. Saturday night s contest will be the third matchup of the season between Boise State and Cal State Fullerton, with the Titans holding a 2-0 edge. The Titans beat the Broncos, 15-4, in six innings back on Feb. 13 in Las Vegas, then captured a 2-0 win in Fullerton on Feb. 28. Cal State Fullerton leads the overall series 4-0. Boise State will meet Charleston Southern, DePaul and CSU Bakersfield all for the first time this weekend. About The Opposition Nebraska (9-11) enters the weekend in the midst of a 5-10 stretch after starting the season 4-1. The Cornhuskers, led by the power of Kiki Stokes (.450, six HR, 18 RBI) and Alicia Armstrong (.397, four HR, 16 RBI), and the pitching of Cassie McClure (5-2, 3.19 ERA), went 2-2 at the Shocker Invitational last weekend, dropping both games to Wichita State, before getting a 10-1 win over Omaha Wednesday. Cal State Fullerton (14-12) has gone 2-4 since defeating Boise State, 2-0, on Feb. 28 at home. The Titans went 1-3 at the Judi Garman Classic last weekend, which included a 9-3 loss to San Diego State. The Titans are paced by the play of Missy Taukeiaho (.412, seven HR, 21 RBI) and pitcher Christina Washington (7-3, 4.49 ERA). Charleston Southern (16-8) has won seven of its past eight heading into this weekend, and is led by the two-way play of Cheyenne Gandara (.412, 10 HR, 27 RBI at the plate, 11-4, 2.22 ERA, 101 K in the circle) along with the power-hitting of Marci Christian (.313, 12 HR, 27 RBI). DePaul (6-12) saw its most recent action two weeks ago, going 0-4 at the Alexis Park Resort Classic in Las Vegas. The Blue Demons were scheduled to play in the Coach B Classic in Carbondale, Ill. last weekend but it was canceled due to inclement weather. DePaul is paced by the play of Mary Connolly (.462, six HR, 17 RBI) and Nicole Pihl (.357, six HR, 17 RBI). CSU Bakersfield (9-12) swept Western Carolina in doubleheader action Wednesday, grabbing wins of 1-0 and 4-1. The Roadrunners also went 1-2 at the Lobo Classic in Albuquerque last weekend, dropping its final two games. Sydney Raeber (.367, six doubles, 10 RBI) leads the Roadrunners at the plate while in the circle Kelsie Monroe is 6-5 with a 3.03 ERA and 51 strikeouts. Last Week s Outings Boise State hosted its first games of 2015 at Dona Larsen Park at last weekend, going 1-3 at the SpringHill Suites Invitational. The Broncos dropped two games to Weber State over that span, falling 10-7 Friday before dropping a 19-10, nine-inning decision in Sunday s finale. Friday, the Broncos fought back from an early 5-1 deficit to even things at 5-5, but Weber State scored four runs its next time at bat to put the Broncos away. Sunday, the teams battled to a 7-7 stalemate after seven innings, and were still tied 8-8 after eight until the Wildcats scored 11 runs in the top of the ninth to break it open. Boise State split its Saturday slate, falling 7-1 to Saint Mary s in the opener before earning a 4-3, eight-inning comeback victory over Montana. In the win, junior Teauna Hughes went 3-for-3 with two home runs, the second a game-tying solo shot in the sixth inning, and senior Jordan Kreiger drove in Kaelie Doyle with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Pitcher Nicole Wilson went a career-high eight innings in the win, striking out five Montana batters while allowing just three runs (two earned) on five hits. Hughes Comes Up Huge Junior utility Teauna Hughes enjoyed one of her best weekends as a Bronco during the SpringHill Suites, batting.571 (8-for- 14) with a double, two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored. Over Boise State s last nine games, Hughes has been the hottest Bronco hitter, batting.481 (13-for-27) with the two home runs and five RBI. This past weekend, the transfer from Mount Hood CC hit her first home runs as a Bronco, both coming in the 4-3, eightinning win over Montana on Saturday. It was also the first two-home run game by a Bronco since Lindsey Nicholson s against

3 Idaho State on April 29, Hughes first homer gave the Broncos a 1-0 lead in the second inning, while her second was even more clutch, tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. On the year, Hughes is batting.323 (third on the team) with 21 hits (second on the team), five doubles, two homers and nine RBI. average is the.299 mark in Record Watch Redshirt senior first baseman Devon Bridges continued her march towards the top of numerous Boise State career hitting records this past weekend. Some More Bronco Firsts Teauna Hughes wasn t the only Bronco to collect some firsts in a Boise State uniform this past weekend. Sophomore transfer Corey Hendrickson and freshman Shaelee Pearson each hit their first home runs as Broncos. Hendrickson s bomb came in Boise State s 7-1 loss to Saint Mary s Saturday, one of the Broncos few highlights in the contest. Pearson, meanwhile, hit her round-tripper in Friday s 10-7 loss to Weber State, highlighting her 3-for-3 performance that also included a pair of runs scored. For the weekend, Hendrickson hit.400 (2- for-5) while Pearson batted.333 (3-for-9). Another transfer, sophomore Ashley Panetta, got her first hit as a Bronco in Saturday s loss to Saint Mary s and scored her first run in Sunday s loss to Weber State. Going The Distance Junior pitcher Nicole Wilson posted the second complete game of the season this past weekend, going eight innings in Saturday s 4-3 win over Montana. Wilson, a transfer from St. Peter s, allowed just three runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out five to earn her first win as a Bronco. For the weekend, Wilson had an ERA of 3.17 over three appearances with a total of 17 strikeouts. She is now 1-2 on the year with an ERA of 3.57 and a pair of saves. Every Day We re Hittin Through 24 games this season Boise State is hitting an impressive.284 as a team. The Broncos are led by five players batting over.300 with redshirt senior Devon Bridges leading the way at.408. Eight Bronco regulars are batting at least.263 this season, while reserves Corey Hendrickson and Shaelee Pearson are batting.304 and.294, respectively. Boise State s all-time best team batting One of the top hitters in program history, Bridges is already Boise State s all-time leader in six offensive categories including home runs (46), RBI (164) and slugging percentage (.677), while also sitting second with a career batting average of.377. With her four hits this past weekend, Bridges now needs just eight to supplant Tara Glover (216) atop the program s career list as well as 72 at-bats to pass Holly Bourke s ( ) Bronco benchmark of 625. Already this season Bridges has twice matched the Boise State single-game record of four hits. She first pulled off the feat Feb. 8 at North Texas, then again against Portland State Feb. 14. Bridges now has three four-hit games in her career, matching Glover ( ) for the most four-hit games as a Bronco. A New Era Head coach Cindy Ball begins her first year as Boise State boss in Ball, named the second head coach in Boise State history on Aug. 29, succeeds Erin Thorpe, who after building the Bronco program from the ground up and serving six seasons as head coach left to take the same position at UC Davis in July. Ball has four seasons as a head coach at the junior-college level under her belt as she served in the position at Modesto Junior College (2007) and Consumnes River College ( ). She put together a record of over those four seasons, including a mark at Consumnes River College, which she led to the Cal JC State Final Four in At the Division I level, Ball has spent eight seasons as an assistant coach, first serving as a graduate assistant coach at her alma mater, Pacific, from She would then serve as an assistant coach at Washington from before spending the past two seasons at Cal State Northridge ( ). Ball was also a decorated player at Pacific, being named an NFCA All-American and Big West Pitcher of the Year in 2001 and She helped lead the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament appearances and still holds nine career-pitching records at the school. Broncos Tabbed Sixth in Preseason Poll The Mountain West Preseason Coaches Poll was released Tuesday morning, and Boise State was tabbed to finish sixth in 2015, receiving 33 points worth of votes. Fresno State topped the poll with seven of the nine first-place votes and 63 points overall, while defending champion San Diego State (54 points) and UNLV (44) split the remaining first-place votes. Colorado State (43) and San Jose State (34) were tabbed fourth and fifth, with the Spartans just ahead of the Broncos. Nevada (26), Utah State (18) and New Mexico (nine) made up the final three slots. Reinforcements For 2016 Boise State will get reinforcements next season as five student-athletes signed NLIs with the Broncos this past November. Set to attend Boise State and join the softball program for the academic year are pitcher Shawna Burke (Eugene, Ore./Marist Catholic HS), shortstop Rebekah Cervantes (Visalia, Calif./ Redwood HS), catcher/third baseman Morgan Lamb (Sacramento, Calif./Elk Grove HS), first baseman Alyssa O Farrell (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville HS) and infielder/outfielder Kora Wade (Lake Elsinore, Calif./Temescal Canyon HS). Burke, a righty from Marist Catholic High School in Eugene, is a three-time 5A All- Midwestern League selection and was also named to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-West Region First Team. She went 17-8, racking up 284 strikeouts and a 2.49 earned-run average to earn her all-region selection and second-straight first-team all-league nod. She has also put up strong numbers at the plate, batting.354 in 2014 following a sophomore season in which she batted.426 in addition to striking out 146 batters. Lamb, a switch hitter, was a two-time selection to the All-Diablo Valley First Team ( ) before having her 2014 season cut short due to injury. She batted.410 with an on-base percentage of.479 as a freshman in 2012 and followed that in 2013 by batting.419 with a.470 OBP. Lamb played in just 15 games as a junior in 2014, posting a batting average of.364 and a.400 OBP over 26 plate appearances. O Farrell, a first baseman who bats and throws right, is a two-time all-league performer at first base for Woodinville High School and has helped lead the Falcons to a 4A state title (2012) and three straight top-five finishes. Last year she earned first-team recognition, batting.439 with six home runs as the Falcons went O Farrell played 23 games as a freshman in 2012, helping Woodinville to a perfect 26-0 record and its second state title, then followed with a 2013 season in which she earned second-team all-league honors by batting.395 as the Falcons captured a fourth-straight 4A KingCo title. Wade, who bats left and throws right, comes to Boise as a versatile talent who stars at Temescal Canyon High School in Lake Elsinore. Playing center field, shortstop and third base, the speedster was named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division IV Team in 2014, having batted.528 with 56 hits, 40 runs scored and 29 stolen bases for the Titans. She was additionally named to the all-league and all-county teams as well as Temescal Canyon s Offensive Player of the Year following her junior season. Cervantes has excelled as a three-sport student-athlete at Redwood High School in Visalia, playing three varsity seasons as a shortstop on the softball team as well as being an all-league performer in volleyball and basketball. On the diamond Cervantes is a three-time All-Tulare County selection and following her junior season in 2014 was named West Yosemite League and Tulare County Player of the Year after batting.614 with 11 home runs, 69 runs batted in, 39 runs scored and a slugging percentage of Behind her dominant performance, Redwood captured the CIF Central Section Division III title.

She most recently spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Cal State Northridge, and served on the coaching staff at Washington for the campaigns after serving as head coach at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, Calif. from At Cal State Northridge Ball worked primarily with the pitching staff while also assisting with the Matador outfielders. Ball helped develop two NFCA All-West Region selections in 2014, as freshman outfielder Taylor Glover earned a spot on the first team, becoming the first Matador field player named all-region since 2004, and junior pitcher Brianna Elder was tabbed for the third team. Glover and Elder were each named to the All-Big West First Team while Glover also earned a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team. In two seasons at Washington, Ball was responsible for the development of a Husky pitching staff which produced secondteam All-American Kaitlin Inglesby in The Huskies went during Ball s two seasons in Seattle and reached a pair of NCAA Super Regionals. She began her collegiate head-coaching career at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, Calif., where in 2007 she led the program to a 16-win improvement from the prior campaign, going and capturing a regional title. Ball then took the helm at Cosumnes River College, overseeing the restart of the program after a year s break in Over three seasons Ball guided the Hawks to a record, highlighted by an appearance at the Cal JC State Final Four Tournament in Ball began her coaching career in the season following her graduation from the University of Pacific in While working towards her master s degree in education, she served on the Pacific staff during the seasons. At Pacific, Ball served as pitching coach while helping scout, assist with practice plans, monitor students academics and promoting and organizing camps. Over her four years in Stockton the Tigers accumulated an overall record of with a mark in the Big West. During her four-year playing career at Pacific ( ), Ball was twice named an NFCA All-American ( ) and Big West Pitcher of the Year ( ) as the Tigers went and made three NCAA Tournament appearances (1999, ). She enjoyed her best season in 2001, going 33-9 while helping lead Pacific to a still-standing school-record 50 wins. Ball remains the most decorated pitcher in school history, holding nine career-pitching records through the 2014 season: appearances (149), starts (116), innings pitched (883.1), wins (91), saves (10), strikeouts (761), strikeouts per seven innings (6.03), complete games (104) and shutouts (45). She was just as dangerous at the plate as in the circle, batting.275 over four seasons with 19 home runs, 111 runs batted in and drawing 76 walks. The latter three marks remain top-seven career marks in the Pacific record book through Ball also established single-season records in pitching appearances (49, twice), starts (39), wins (33), saves (6), strikeouts (291), strikeouts per seven innings (7.21), complete games (37), shutouts (18) and RBI s (46). Of those marks, seven still stand through On March 3, 2012, Ball was one of the first two players in program history to have her number retired (No. 9) in recognition of her contributions on and off the field to the growth and endurance of the Pacific program. Ball graduated from Pacific in 2002 with a bachelor s degree in sports sciences and earned her master s in education in She played professionally in Italy in 2002, leading Team Bussolengo to the playoffs while pacing the squad in batting, home runs and earned-run average. In 2004, Ball played for the Stockton-Sacramento Sunbirds in the National Pro Fastpitch League, and from participated in the Canada Cup where she was an All-Star in 2008.
