4 Welcome one and all to the LA Bayou 2012 Spring season of kickball! Let me start out by welcoming our returning players back, and welcoming aboard all of the new players! Go ahead and give yourselves a round of applause because what you have joined is well known as the most fun league in New Orleans. The funn is there so please take advantage of it. The best ways to have fun is by mingling with other teams, talking to that cute guy/girl that you ve been eyeing, and cutting loose on the dance floor! In just a couple days we ll be running up and down those fields, kicking/ /catching some balls, flipping cups, and staying late for the surprise insanity that always wraps up the night. But before we can get to that we have a lot of important information to cover. Let s meet the teams. Don t only do like these girls! Mingle with other teams on the dance floor as well! We ree doing two league wide theme nights. The first one willl be Cowboys and Indians on week 3. The other is (my personal favorite) Wrestling on week 6! Come dressed up as your favorite WWF, WCW, ECW, WWE, or any other obscure wrestling leaguee superstar! We ll be following flip cup with some wrestling themed

5 flip cup games. There ll be a Royal Rumble for charityy and the main event, Survivor Series, where you ll get to see some of the best flippers in thee south go toe to toe. Along with flip cup there are a couple changes in how many times you can place in KOTH and how those spots will be handled. I ll let TJ tell you all about it in the flip cup section. Both theme nights we will take a league wide picture. This will take a little coordination on our part and a little cooperation on your part. This will take place as soon as the last first round game is over. We ll all meet on field one, snap the picture, and then everyone can instantly head offf to get the second round of games going. 7 I m going to go ahead a wrap this up for now. If there s anything I missed I m sure it ll find its way into subsequent newsletters and s. 8 LA Bayou VP KB Hello Kickballers and welcome to another fun and exciting season of LA Bayou! For those of you who don t know me my name is Kristen Brown, but everyone calls me KB, and I play on Balls of Fury. This will be my third glorious season playing in LA Bayou league and my second season on the board. The most important rule of LA Bayou is to have FUN!!!! Anything I can do to make sure this season is awesome will certainly be done. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come find me on the fields or at the bar and ask. Answers are given on a per Jagerbomb basis and the kickballer handing me a shot will certainly have priority! Seriously though, if you need anything feel free to find Dupree, Sean, myself or any of the other board members. We are here to make sure you are having the best experience possible! Here are a few fun facts about me for those who don t know me and a nice little read for those of you who do: I play for Balls of Fury I was born and raised in New Orleans I am a bartender at Grit s I am an avid Jagerbomb enthusiast I love Kickelob Ultra Some people think I look like an elf. 9 First things first: what the heck is that extra base next to first? Rule Summary: Rule 1.06 says that the Extra Base is only available for runners traveling from home plate (see Rule 10.06), and that fielders trying to make an out on first base must touch the base in fair territory (the First Base). What it means to you: If you're running to first base, you should nearly always run to the extra base, NOT first base. Otherwise, you will be called out! If you're playing first base, you need to tag the inside base (first base). Once safe, you begin the next play standing on first base. Standing on the extra base at the start of the next play will get you called out. (hint: run here!) Exceptions to the rule: If you're rounding first and going to second, you can use either base, but you'd better be damn sure to make a legit attempt toward second, or you will be out automatically. If there is no fielder on first base, you can use either base. Runners hindered by a fielder touching the extra base will be safe. Runners can use first base if avoiding collision with a fielder in foul territory. In this case, and ONLY in this case, the fielder in foul territory is permitted to tag the extra base. During the regular season, umps are free to give a warning on this rule before calling someone out, but use your judgment, and give only one warning to a team. After that, it's the captains' responsibility to make sure everyone knows what's going on. This rule is meant to prevent collisions, and since it is safety-oriented, you shouldn't expect a whole lot of leniency on it come playoff time. questions? comments? waka@briannuss.com

10 LA Bayou Flip Cup! Let me first start off by welcoming you to the biggest party in kickball! Things I strongly suggest: Have a good time, Get wasted, Mingle and meet new people, Makeout with a random girl or guy, Make bad decisions, and lastly always feel free to take your clothes off! For all new and returning kickballers, this is how flip cup at the bar works. Whatever team you play in kickball, you will also play in team flip cup at the bar. Team flip cup consists of a 5 person relay team against the opposing team. The match will be a best of 5 rounds. Let me introduce you to the reigning team flip cup champions from last year! AA (Alcoholic Athletes)

11 No one has seen or heard much from AA after their Championship run. Here are a few thoughts of what happened later on that night! After team flip cup is done then it is time for KOTH. KOTH or King of the Hill is a last man standing version of flip cup. Every team is allowed to put up 3 players to play. Extra players can be added for $5 into KOTH. The top 4 players in KOTH each week will earn a spot for the championship KOTH on flip cup playoff night. A player can play as many times as they want, but they can only qualify for KOTH playoffs one time. The last week in the regular season only players who have not qualified before are allowed to play. The extra spots that were taken by

12 players who had already qualified will be given out on the last night. So if for instance Mark the Asian flip cup machine qualifies the 1 st week and then places top 4 three more times throughout the season, the extra 4 spots will be up for grabs the last night of KOTH. Instead of the top 4 getting spots the top 8 will get spots the last night. Let me introduce you to our reigning KOTH champion from Balls of Fury: Darren Siddons I have not seen Darren since is championship night, but I have heard he has been training none stop in order to defend his title this season. Here are a few ideas of what Darren might look like now!

13 There also has been rumors of strip flip cup, fuck your shit, survivor series flip cup, and battle royale flip cup this season! Get ready for the train wreck that is LA Bayou!

14 Attention Beautiful People of LA Bayou: The charity we will be donating to this season will be (drumroll, please) The Uptown Learning Center, a day care that accepts all children, but specializes in children with special needs. Look forward to many insane fundraisers, as well as our weekly team collections and probably an opportunity to donate some time as we help to build a new playground for the kids! What can you do to help? Great question! Captains should indicate to Eric Porter or Caroline Lilly Delaney who the designated charity member is from each team. From there, the charity member will turn in all collected funds to Eric or Caroline, weekly, at the fields if possible when we come around to collect. What s that? You missed us at the fields? Good thing Eric and Caroline are party animals, cause they ll be tearin $hit up at Grits-- likely at a table nearest the keg for flip cup, or shakin a$$ on the dance floor. She should be easy to find with her shiny WAKA hat on, but if you don t see her at the fields or on the dance floor, check the top off the bar If you make it rain, she ll count that as a charitable donation for your team! Yes indeed. That s right! The team raising the most funds will win a keg party at the end of the season. Details may be worked out with head honcho, Sean Gaubert, after the winner is announced. Originally known as the Association for Retarded Children, a small, but extremely determined gathering of parents organized and implemented an action plan as a means of helping each other and their children affected by mental retardation and related developmental disabilities. Slowly, limited education services were initiated with the determination of parents-voluntee ers leading the efforts. Now knownn as Arc of Greater New Orleans, the organization and its services have flourished over the years to now serving some 1000 children and adults in Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes. Arc provides various services throughout the entire community including Early Intervention, Family Services Coordination, Respite, Personal Care, Employment/Habilitation and Supported Living assistance. Arc of Greater New Orleans has been an integral part of the New Orleans area community since 1953, offering support and critical services to the area s youngest residents and their families. We offer lifelong support to families in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes. Arc s Children s Services include: Early Intervention Ages: birth to 3-years, Early Intervention can make a significant differencee in children that are experiencing developmental delays. Arc can provide individualizedd services to assist in all areas of growth and development. Family Services Coordination Ages: birth to 3-years, Arc is there to not only help the child, but provide support to the family. Through its Family Services Coordination division, service coordinators work with families to assess needs and identify services for children with developmental delays. With this assistance, parents can make informed decisions on how to best help their child. Uptown Learning Center (ULC) offers structured child care services for all children in the New Orleans area. With a specialized and trained staff, the ULC child care center accepts children with developmental delays, as well as those children typically developing. Professionals, paraprofessiona ls and family members work together to providee developmentally appropriate services to all infants and preschoolers. 18 Last season, on the REAL HOUSEWIVES OF LA BAYOU: Balls of Fury got knocked out in the semifinal round. It checked itself into rehab shortly afterward for exhaustion. While in recovery, BOF meets Keith Urban, who decides to play for Balls of Fury in the upcoming season. Gaubert became the first ever WAKA Franchise owner. He is doing well and has retired to Tahiti. This season, on the REAL HOUSEWIVES OF LA BAYOU: Balls of Fury gets a new logo, installed by Adrienne Maloof s plastic surgeon husband, Paul. Recovery goes well, and the addition of the angry eyebrows add a competitive level to BOF s play not seen before. BOF and Maloof have a falling out over the bill, which goes unpaid. Seriously, we re a kickball team. What did you expect?!, BOF protests. Go talk to BLU Ballers, they re the ones with all the money. Balls of Fury talks to its friend, AA, about all the unfortunate icing that happened last season. Hopefully the off season gave us a chance to mend our friendship, says Balls of Fury. Oh, and stock up on more Ice! Taylor Armstrong s attempt to play kickball, in order to meet someone new, is met with disaster when, after accidentally getting red hotted in the face, her lips actually deflate, causing a change in the atmospheric pressure and a small explosion on Field 1. 19 AA (ALCOHOLIC ATHLETES) People might remember us last year as: the blue team, as the team who didn t win many kickball teams, the team that had guys running around in speedos a lot, the team who was always wasted at the bar, or the FLIP CUP Champions of the World! However you remember us, we are back and better than ever! Rules of AA: 1.) Say yes to any and all alcohol 2.) Never turn down a makeout 3.) Everyone on AA will be pregnant at some point during the season 4.) Drink Like a F*ing Champion 5.) Clothing Optional! We will be wearing orange jump suits for the first game this season. Oddly enough it seems one of our team members spent 6 hours in jail Friday morning. He claims it was due to a unpaid seat belt ticket, but I there s a rumor going around it was a DUI. The officer asked him to get out of the car and walk a straight line and this is what happened Except all he has on was captain America tighty whites!

21 Classified Section Yep that s right classifieds are back this season and will be better than ever. The classified section will appear in the back on the newsletter every week. Submission will be $1. Send all submissions to wakalabayou@gmail.com. I will never say who submitted what classified ads so don t worry. The crazier and more out of control the ads are the better and more entertaining this section will be. I or another masked kickballer will collect the $1 submission fees the following week. You do not have to include you name in the with the submission, but a team name would help so I can make sure to collect the money. All money collected for classified ads will go towards charity. Let s start this season out with a bang!!
