The Cavaliers took 2-of-3 from the Yellow Jackets last season, igniting a sevengame winning streak that lifted to Hoos into the ACC Tournament. Allison Davis carries a historic streak into the weekend, homering in each of the last five games for Virginia. It is the longest known streak in program history. A series victory would be the first to open ACC play since 2012 when the Hoos swept Georgia Tech in Atlanta. With the addition of Duke, ACC softball will split into two divisions for the next two seasons. The winner of each division is guaranteed a top-two seed in the ACC Tournament. Virginia s nine ACC wins in 2017 were its most since winning 13 in HOOS vs. YELLOW JACKETS Virginia and Georgia Tech are meeting for the 81st time on Friday night to open the series. The Cavaliers and Jackets are level at in the all-time series, but UVA has won each of the last two series against the Jackets. In last season s meeting in Charlottesville, the Hoos bounced back from a 10-5 loss in the series opener to take the series with 3-2 and 4-2 victories. Virginia trailed 2-0 in both games it won, scoring three in the seventh in game two and four in the fifth of game three. 3 AD ON FIRE Senior Allison Davis hit.692 over the weekend and launched three home runs. She also led the team with eight RBI on the weekend. She continued the hot hitting on Tuesday, becoming the first Virginia player known to homer in five-straight games. The outfielder ranks among the ACC leaders in nearly every category. With eight home runs on the season, she sits sixth in the country in the category. Busby has raised her batting average to.290 on the season, after sitting at.154 just two weeks ago. The freshman added a chinstrap to her batting helmet two weeks ago and has hit.400 since the addition of the chinstrap. The hot stretch has seen Busby move into the two-hole and she has driven in nine of her 10 RBI in the last 12 games. GOTT GETS GOING Despite her 11-game reached base streak being snapped over the weekend, junior backstop Olivia Gott found a new groove at the plate. Gott has discovered hoer power stroke, launching three home runs over the past five games. She also leads the team with 12 walks and is reaching at a.443 clip on the year. RETURN TO ACC 2017 saw Virginia return to the ACC Tournament for the first time since The Cavaliers won 8 of their last 10 games, including a 5-2 run in ACC play to earn a spot in the postseason. The Cavaliers finished the year with nine ACC victories, marking the most in a season since HOOS HITTING Virginia set eight different top 10 marks as a team in In Hardin s first season, the Hoos launched the second most home runs in program history (53) while setting school bests in slugging (.457) and extra base hits (146). The Cavaliers 231 runs scored rank eight in program history. SEASON NOTES SMITH SWINGING Junior Lacy Smith has already matched her career high with 17 RBI on the season. Smith is also hitting at a career-best clip of.286 this season. She needs just three more hits to match her career best. JENNINGS JOINS PARTY Freshman Ashley Jennings had her best weekend of the season at the District Classic. Jennings went 4-for-7 in three games played, launching the first two home runs of her UVA career. She finished the weekend slugging with four RBI. CONTAGIOUS BATS Virginia has scored in double digits on three occasions this season. Last weekend at the District Classic, the Hoos scored six or more runs in all four games. Five Cavaliers posted an average of over.300 for the weekend. As a team, Virginia hit.390, by far its best weekend of the year. SPACE RACE Seniors Allison Davis and Danni Ingraham are both chasing UVA history as they continue to climb the all-time home run leaderboard. Davis has opened the season red-hot with eight home runs, one shy of her career high. The incredible start has her and Ingraham tied for fourth all-time in the record books. TOP 5 CAREER HOME RUNS 1. That mark ranks 12th in the ACC. A major factor in the inflated ERA has been 105 walks issued by the Hoos. In addition, the Cavaliers have hit another 10 batters to total 115 free passes on the season. By contrast, opponents have issued just 70 total free bases. The 105 walks issued put the Hoos on pace to eclipse the program high of 232 in DOUBLE DOWN The Cavaliers have been proficient in turning two this season with 11 double plays on the year. Virginia ranks 23rd in the nation and is tied atop the ACC for double plays per game. SCOUTING GEORGIA TECH PITCHING Senior pitcher Emily Anderson has been the heartbeat of the Yellow Jackets to start the season. The right-hander boasts a 0.98 ERA, by far the best mark of her career and one that ranks tops in the ACC and 35th in the nation. Anderson has racked up 76 strikeouts, ranking her 27th in the country. Her three shutouts lead the ACC and are 22nd in the nation. Along with Anderson, Naomi Dickerson and Brooke Barfield have also made starts for the Yellow Jackets this season. Dickerson holds a 2.81 ERA in nine appearances and 32 1/3 innings. Barfield has worked 12 1/3 innings and owns a 6.24 ERA. BATTING Georgia Tech is hitting at a.233 clip as a team, ranking the Jackets 11-of-12 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets 20 home runs rank fourth in the league and account for nearly 1/5 of their hits. Cameron Stanford leads the Jackets at.33 on the year, including four doubles and a trio of home runs. Katie Krzus has driven in a team-high 16 runs and also leads Georgia Tech with five home runs. Draven Sonnen adds a third player over.300. The Yellow Jackets have been strikeout prone on the year, fanning 111 times as a team. Tech has left 124 runners aboard this season. MORE ON THE HOOS HEAVY HITTERS Virginia sits squarely in the middle of the ACC with its.277 average at the plate. The mark places the Hoos sixth in the league. However, the Cavaliers have proven to be one of the most powerful squads in the league, sitting second in slugging percentage at.466. The Hoos lead the ACC with 161 hits on the season. They also lead the conference with 24 home runs. The big sticks have led to 97 runs, which is good for third in the ACC behind Florida State and Louisville. NO RUNNING This weekend s series features the bottom two teams in the ACC in stolen bases. Virginia has swiped just 10 bags on the year, while Georgia Tech has stolen only five. The Yellow Jackets rank 278 out of 294 in steals per game. Virginia is just ahead at 241.
