Southern Miss snapped a three-game losing streak to the Crimson Tide with a 2-1 decision in Ha esburg back on February 26. Southern Miss has won five of the last nine games in the series. The Last Mee ng: Breck Kline delivered a pinch-hit, run-scoring single in the bo om of the eighth which proved to be the game winner as Southern Miss defeated No. 21 Alabama, 2-1, in Hat- esburg on Feb. 26. With the score ed at 1-1 in the eighth, Mason Robbins led off the bo om of the inning with a single. A er a sacrifice bunt by Ma Durst, Dylan Burdeaux was inten onally walked. The Golden Eagles then went to the bench and Kline delivered a single to le off of Crimson Tide reliever Taylor Guilbeau to plate Robbins for the game-winning run. Chris an Talley, who redshirted his first season at the collegiate level at Alabama before transferring to junior college, pitched 7 1/3 strong innings in the start for the Golden Eagles allowing an unearned run on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts, but did not figure in the decision. In the top of the eighth, Talley gave up a one-out double to Bama catcher Wade Wass, before the Golden Eagles went to the bullpen for senior reliever Jay Myrick. Myrick fanned the first ba er he faced before allowing a walk to give the Tide two runners on base. Myrick, though, then collected his second strikeout to end the inning and the threat, ge ng the victory. Junior Bradley Roney came on and got three outs in the ninth to get the save. This and That: Southern Miss has won four of the last five, nine of the last 13 and 13 of the last 18 games...the Golden Eagles finished its string of games in minor league baseball parks this spring last Tuesday night at Zephyr Field against LSU and finished 3-4 in those games...the LSU contest snapped a streak of five-straight, one-run games, in which the Eagles went 3-2 over that span...usm won its first extra-inning game in three tries on Apr. 13, at UAB...The Golden Eagles are 9-4 in the month of April and collected its first three-game sweep last weekend of an opponent, Louisiana Tech, since UAB on April 26-27, Last Time Out: Bradley Roney highlighted a five-run first inning with a three-run homer to li Southern Miss to an 8-3 victory over Louisiana Tech here Sunday a ernoon at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field and complete a three-game Conference USA sweep. Ma Durst led the Golden Eagles with three of their 12 hits. Cody Carroll threw six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks with six strikeouts to collect the victory as Golden Eagle pitching did not allow a LA Tech run for the first 24 innings of the series. Star ng Strong in Conference USA Play: The Golden Eagles have now won each of their first six C-USA series to start 2014 league play. Southern Miss had won two of three games in each of its first five series, defea ng Marshall, Florida Atlan c and UAB on the road and capturing sets at home over UTSA and Middle Tennessee, before sweeping Louisiana Tech at home last weekend. The last me Southern Miss registered six-straight series wins to start league play was in 2003, when that club won their first seven series. Berry reached that win total quicker than the only other three baseball coaches at the school to get to that plateau, C.J. Pete Taylor ( ), Hill Denson ( ) and Corky Palmer ( ), doing it in 256 games. Palmer reached this milestone in 270 games, Taylor in 279 and Denson in 317. Berry now has posted a record in his fi h season at the helm of the program.

2 Sco Berry Head Coach 5th Year ( ) Sco Berry is in his fi h season as head coach and 14th season overall with the Golden Eagle baseball program. Under Berry s tutelage, Southern Miss won its second Conference USA regular-season tle last season with him at the helm, tying with Rice for the second me in the last three years. The program reached the C-USA tle game for the second me as well under Berry, dropping the contest to Rice at Reckling Park in Houston. The Golden Eagles had previously defeated Rice in the 2010 C-USA tle matchup, a victory that sent Southern Miss to the postseason in Berry s first year as head coach. The Golden Eagles finished in 2013, upping its streak of 30-plus victories to 12 consecu ve seasons. Four players from the 2013 squad earned All- C-USA honors. Senior catcher Chase Fowler, senior pitcher Andrew Pierce and senior infielder Isaac Rodriguez earned first-team accolades while sophomore pitcher/ou ielder Mason Robbins garnered second-team honors. In 2012, a young Southern Miss squad went through growing pains but s ll captured 32 wins during the campaign. The development of youth was evident in the club as four players earned Conference USA All-Freshman honors, including Freshman of the Year Mason Robbins, along with pitcher Jake Drehoff, infielder/ou ielder Michael Sterling and pitcher/infielder Bradley Roney. In 2011, Berry earned C-USA Coach of the Year Honors as he led the program to its ninthconsecu ve NCAA postseason as Southern Miss captured a share of the Conference USA regular season tle en route to a mark and a berth in the 2011 NCAA Atlanta Regional. The 2011 season produced many awards for Berry s squad. Ou ielder Tyler Koelling became the school s first recipient of the Ferriss Trophy, awarded to the top collegiate baseball player in the state of Mississippi, and was one of four Golden Eagles to earn First-Team All-Conference USA honors. The Golden Eagles also excelled off the field as Bourgeois was named the program s first Academic All-American since 2009, earning first-team honors at designated hi er. He was named the C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the sport and also spearheaded a group of three players himself, McInnis and Doleac that made the league s All-Academic Team. In Berry s first season as head coach, 2010, he was able to con nue the success that he helped build while an assistant. That season, the Golden Eagles compiled a record and won their first Conference USA tournament tle since 2003 when they defeated na onallyranked Rice 7-4 in the championship game. Southern Miss boasted two All-Americans that year, pitcher Sco Copeland and shortstop B.A. Vollmuth. The duo, along with Todd McInnis and Collin Cargill, was named first-team All-Conference USA. Berry s ini al success as the top man in the program came on the heels of a magical 2009 season in which Berry, as associate head coach to Corky Palmer, helped lead the program to its first College World Series appearance. Finding a Home in the No. 3 Spot: Sophomore Tim Lynch, who was put in the No. 3 posi on in the bat- ng order against Marshall in game one of a doubleheader for the first me 23 games ago, had a teambest reached base streak in the first 20 game since being inserted in that spot and has reached safely in 22 of 23 games. In the last 23 games, Lynch is hi ng.345 (29x84) with five doubles, a home run and 19 RBI. Barron Back in Ac on: Junior Connor Barron is back in ac on a er missing five games with concussionlike symptoms. Barron entered the final two games in a reserve role against Louisiana Tech. Barron has started in 30 contests this season. Pinch-Hi ng Success: Sophomore Breck Kline (Slidell, La.) has recorded five pinch hits in six at bats this season. Kline was finally held hitless in a pinch-hit at bat April 8 against Mississippi State by striking out. He s ll, though, reached base as the pitch got away from the MSU catcher and he reached on a wild pitch. Kline started the last seven games for Connor Barron, who had been out of ac on due to concussion-like symptoms, in centerfield and has gone 7x29 (.241) with five runs and two RBI to go along with three walks. Against UAB, Kline drove in the winning run with a walk in the opening game and knocked in a run in a four-run ninth in the series finale at Birmingham two weekends ago. Turning Two Is Old Hat for the Eagles: Southern Miss finished among the na on s leaders in total double plays last season with 78, ranking No. 4, while its double play per game average of 1.37 was best in the na on. The Golden Eagles have been among the na on s leaders in this category over the last several years and led the country in total double plays during the 2009 (83), 2010 (84) and 2011 (81) seasons. Southern Miss has turned 34 double plays this season through the first 41 contests. Playing in Pro Stadiums: The Golden Eagles made their fourth and final minor league ballpark stop this season when they took on LSU, April 15, at Zephyr Field in Metairie, the Triple A home of the Miami Marlins. Southern Miss also played at Bayfront Stadium in Pensacola, Fla., against Florida on March 4th, the Double A home of the Cincinna Reds. The Golden Eagles also played Marshall at Appalachian Power Park, the Single A facility of the Pi sburgh Pirates affiliate, in Charleston, W.Va., as well as traveling to Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss., the home of the Double-A Atlanta Braves franchise, twice to face both Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Some Random Notes: Southern Miss is 3-6 against the SEC this season and will play a total of 11 games against the league in The Golden Eagle pitching staff has collected double-digit strikeouts in 13 contests this season, including a season-best 16 on Feb. 28, against Troy. Senior RHP Conor Fisk collected a career-high 13 punchouts in that game, as he fanned the side three mes during the contest on his way to earning C-USA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors...chris an Talley fanned 12 UTSA hi ers on March 21 and did not walk anyone in a 6-2 victory to earn the team s second C-USA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors this season...golden Eagle starters did not allow a run over 24 innings of work last weekend against Louisiana Tech. It was the first me the school has posted back-to-back shutouts since bea ng Ole Miss (10-0) and Houston (8-0) on March 20 and March 23, Strength of Schedule: In 2014, the Golden Eagles play 24 games against 11 different teams which earned a berth in the 2013 NCAA Baseball Tournament. Those teams include non-conference foes Louisiana- Lafaye e, Alabama, Troy, Florida, South Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU, along with league opponents UTSA (which was in the WAC in 2013), Florida Atlan c (which was in the Sun Belt in 2013) and Rice. Roney is Second in Saves: Bradley Roney registered his 10th save of the season and 28th for his career, April 2, at South Alabama. He now holds second place on the school s career chart in that category, moving ahead of Daniel Best ( ). Roney, who now trails leader Collin Cargill by two saves, has converted all 10 of his opportuni es this season. The 10 saves ranks ed for seventh on the Golden Eagle career single season chart. Tyler Conn holds the school record for most saves in a season with 18, doing it during the 2008 campaign. USM Saves Leaders 1. Southern Miss also has 12-straight consecu ve winning seasons heading into the 2014 campaign and finished over.500 in 27 of the last 28 years. Berry Keeps Winning Championships: In his first four seasons, Southern Miss baseball coach Sco Berry has won three Conference USA tles. He captured the tournament tle in his first season in 2010 and earned a share of the regular season crown in both the 2011 and 2013 campaigns. Berry also won the Coach of the Year honors in 2011 for C-USA. Winning the Regular Season Again: Southern Miss won its third Conference USA regular season crown overall in 2013, with the others coming in 2003 and 2011, and for the second in three seasons they ed Rice for the league tle. New Look Conference USA: Conference USA, which has been in existence since the 1996 season, welcomes seven new schools to the league this spring including Charlo e, Florida Atlan c, FIU, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion and UTSA. Three schools le the league following the 2013 campaign which included Houston, Memphis and UCF. A er having 13 schools this season, the league will drop to 12 playing members in 2015 as both East Carolina and Tulane move to another conference, while C-USA has Western Kentucky entering the fold.
