THE STARTERS: RHP Max Povse heads to the mound for the game three start against the visiting Hillcats today. Povse is 2-2 and has pitched to a 2.89 ERA over six starts this season. Povse faced just two over the minimum through his six full innings on April 10. He struck out seven and allowed just one hit over six scoreless frames 4/15: Povse tossed his second straight shutout on 4/15 against Myrtle Beach and raised his scoreless innings streak to 13 to start the season. The 6 8 right-hander walked one, yielded just two hits and struck out seven while earning his first win of the season in front of a crowd of 4,934 in Zebulon 4/20: Povse allowed three runs and six hits over six innings against Salem Red Sox at Five County Stadium. He worked through the first three innings without allowing a run before allowing a Franklin Guzman two-run double in the fourth. Povse had stretched his scoreless innings streak to start the season to 16 and 1/3 innings before Guzman s run scoring double. Povse walked two struck out two while taking his first loss of the season 4/26: Pitched through a career high 7.2 innings with seven strikeouts and just two runs allowed on five hits while earning his second win of the season. He gave up a first inning RBI double to Ryan O Hearn, but quickly bounced back by retiring the next 12 he faced in consecutive order. ELEVEN STRAIGHT GOOSE EGGS: Starter RHP Max Povse and relievers RHP Evan Phillips and RHP Raymar Navarro combined on an 11-inning shutout in game one of a doubleheader in Salem on April 10 against the Red Sox. It was the first shutout tossed by the Carolina pitching staff this season. Mudcats pitchers managed to shutout an opponent 12 times last season.
