ABOUT THE LAST ONE: OF Keith Curcio was 0-for-3 yesterday in Wilmington, however, the Carolina leadoff man squeezed in a run with a bunt in the seventh while helping the Mudcats to the 3-1 series clinching win. The resulting RBI was Curcio s team and league best seventh of the season. Curcio also leads the Carolina League, the Mudcats and the Atlanta Braves farm system with 15 hits over seven games this season. SS Dansby Swanson is 2 nd in the Braves system, 2 nd on the Mudcats and tied for 2 nd in the Caroling League in hits with 11 over the first week of play. Swanson is also currently tied for the most doubles in Minor League Baseball with five so far in ON TO THE NEXT ONE: The Mudcats make their way to Five County Stadium tonight for their 2016 home opener. Tonight is game one of Carolina s season opening seven game homestand and the first game of four against the visiting Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The Mudcats are 4-3 entering tonight s game and currently sit in first place ahead of the Pelicans, Salem Red Sox and Winston-Salem Dash who are each tied at 3-4 and one game back of Carolina. RHP Matt Withrow gets the game one; opening night start for the Mudcats. Tonight marks his Mudcats and High A debut. Withrow pitched for the Danville Braves last season after being selected by the Braves in the 6 th round of the 2015 MLB draft. Withrow pitched to a 0-4 record and 3.56 ERA over 13 starts in his rookie season last year. 12 CAROLINA MUDCATS FIELD STAFF #18 Rocket Wheeler, Manager Rocket Wheeler begins his first year as the skipper of the Mudcats and 14th overall season as a manager in the Braves system in He previously managed the Gulf Coast League Braves from 2011 to 2014, the Mississippi Braves in 2011, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans from 2006 to 2010 and the Rome Braves from 2003 to His assignment to the Mudcats marks his second stint as manager of the Braves' High-A affiliate. He earned Baseball America Minor League Manager of the Year honors in 2008 after leading the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a franchise record 89 regular season wins. He also won the Carolina League Manager of the Year award that same season. The Braves named Wheeler their Minor League Manager of the Year in 2003 after he lead Rome to the South Atlantic League Championship.
