The Squirrels have won four of their last give games and they have eight of their last ten games. The surge of the Squirrels early on in the month of June culminated in last night s double header sweep over the Western Division leading Altoona Curve. The Squirrels won game one by a score of 6-3 and won the nightcap, 3-2. Richmond has now won four games in a row for the first time this season. The Squirrels offense as a whole is hitting.270 in this month with six home runs, 16 doubles and 38 runs scored. The pitching staff has also picked up their game bringing the cumulative team ERA under three for the month of June pitching to a 2.63 ERA. Heathcott Homers: + After hitting his tenth home run of the season in the final game of the series against Binghamton, Slade Heathcott becomes the fastest player to hit ten home runs in a season in the Flying Squirrels franchise history. The next fastest player to hit 10 home runs was Javier Jerrera knocking his tenth home run of the season on June 28, Heathcott is on pace to break the single-season record for home runs set by Mario Lisson who hit 18 hoem runs in the 2014 season. Tyler Cyr Closes: + Tyler Cyr has solidified his role as the closer for this team over his past few outtings. With the save in the nightcap of the double header on June 10th against Altoona, Cyr has now completed seven saves in seven oppourtunities. The righty has allowed just two earned runs in his last 18 outtings which spans 19.0 innings. Cyr has entered the past three games for the Squirrels with a one run lead and has held on for the save all three times. Cyr was drafted by the Giants in the 10th round of the 2015 MLB June Draft out of Embry-Riddle University. New Month New Squirrels: + The Flying Squirrels roster has gone through some changes of the past couple weeks. To be exact, there have been 12 roster moves already in the month of June. The Giants aquired two new players and have assigned them to the Squirrels; LHP Jerret Martin and First Baseman Jerry Sands from the Independent League. The Giants also called up RHP Ryan Halstead and Yordy Cabrerra from San Jose (A+). Because of the new aquisitions and the promotions from San Jose, the Giants have placed Tyler Horan, Reyes Moranta, and Luis Pino of the Richmond disabled list. Ali Castillo was promoted to Sacramento (AAA). Squirrels outfielder Hunter Cole was also placed on the disabled list with an oblique strain. Jeff Arnold has returned to the RIver CIty and Adam Sonabend has been optioned to Augusta (A). Today s Starters: Richmond s Jose Flores + On the mound for the Flying Squirrels tonight in game one of the double header will be right-hander Jose Flores. Flores will be making his 16th appearence but his fourth start of the season. Jose started the season as a relief pitcher but was thrown into the starting rotation after lefty Matt Lujan went down with an injury. In Flores three starts, he has allowed just nine hits and one earned run over 12.0 innings. Flores enters tonight s contest with a 1-0 record and a 1.21 ERA. The righty has faced Altoona three times already this season throwing a combined 5.2 innings without allowing a single hit. Altoona Curve s Tanner Anderson + Right-hander Tanner Anderson will be making his 11th start of the season tonight and his fourth start against the Squirrles. His last start against Richmond was on May 9th where he lasted just 3.2 innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs. Anderson enters tonight s contest with a 3-6 record and a 4.37 ERA. He has allowed at least one earned run in all but one of his starts. Anderson was drafted by the Pirates in the 20th round of the 2015 MLB draft out of Harvard University. Flores has compiled a mere 1.21 ERA in 29.2 innings so far this season. Flores was aquired by the Giants this past off-season through free agency. He has spent most of his career in the Mexican League but was originally signed by the Cleveland Indians as a non-drafted free agent in 2005 but was let go in Flores has been a part of five Major League organizations over his career (Cleveland, Seattle, Oakland, Cincinnati, and San Francisco). + Aside from his three starts this season for the Squirrels, The last time Flores started a game was back in the DSL league in Season: + Flores spent the entire season last year in the Mexican Legue pitching for Rieleros de Aguascalientes.
