1 BA Bus outes Community eeting June 2011 BA Key Bus oute Improvement Program he BA is committed to improving your bus riding experience. Over the next two years, the BA will plan and implement a series of enhancements to 15 bus routes, chosen for their high ridership and frequency of service. his project, known as the Key Bus oute Improvement Program, will help reduce trip times; improve accessibility; enhance customer comfort, convenience and safety; and make the routes more reliable and costeffective. onight s meeting and upcoming meetings will discuss potential improvements to Bus outes 71, 73, and 77. tilizing $10 million in grant funding through the American ecovery and einvestment Act (AA) the BA now has the opportunity to implement the Key Bus oute Improvement Program. his one-time opportunity to improve service quality will be accomplished by implementing a combination of the following: bus location improvements, bus amenities shelters, benches, trash receptacles and signage, curb extensions, and accessibility enhancements, in addition to traffic signal upgrades. orking with local municipalities, all Key Bus oute improvements will be developed with the help of public input. he public process for outes 23 and 39 has recently been completed, while an ongoing process for the oute 28 is being coordinated with asso s oxbury orchester attapan ransit eeds tudy. Final design plans for outes 23 and 39 are in progress, while planning for outes 1,57 and 66 is complete and preliminary design plans are currently being presented for community feedback. Public process for outes 111, 116, and 117 is ongoing. he remaining 6 routes will be improved over the next two years through a phased implementation approach. outes 71, 73, and 77 constitute the next phase of Key Bus outes scheduled for implementation, and the community feedback process has just begun. 2 BA Key Bus oute Improvement Program Glossary and Abbreviations of erms Bus ocation earside: bus is located before an intersection, or driveway. Bus ocation Farside: bus is located after an intersection, or driveway. Bus ocation id-block: bus is located in the middle of a street block. Companion bus s are typically located in pairs, one on each side of the street. Curb extension (or bulb out) sidewalk is widened in a particular section, sometimes either side of a crosswalk, or at the start/end of on-street parking. Queue jump priority is given to buses at an intersection.
