Royal Wedding What a lovely celebration we had on Thursday lunchtime with our party lunch provided by Mrs Cornall and her team! Everyone looked

SATS We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils calm and mature approach to their SATs this week. They almost seemed to be enjoying them!! Maybe it was the Nutella for breakfast that did the trick! Well done children! TRAILER WANTED! If anyone has a trailer (just the right size to carry a bath!) please could you get in touch with Sophie Banks as soon as possible as we desperately need one for our float for festival day. Also if anyone has a spare bath (!) that we might be able to borrow, please let us know! Thank you to those who have said that they will dress up and be a part of our float. We could do with more children taking part so if you are able to, please return the slip to the school office or let Sophie Banks know. It would be fantastic to see those wonderful Paddington Bear costumes from World Book Day on show once again. ANY KNITTERS OUT THERE? We need hundreds of poppies knitting or crocheting for our Longridge schools cluster Armistice event taking place in November 2018 at Preston Guild Hall. If anyone can knit or can crochet, or knows of anyone who can, please could you contact Miss Shepherd who can provide a pattern. We also need donations of red wool for this. A massive thank you to all those who have already knitted poppies, especially Chloe and Daniel Ferreira s family who have contributed 60 poppies. Follow us on Facebook to keep up with what we re doing on a daily basis. Charity Club s Royal Wedding Event Thank you so much to everyone who supported our event last night. We all had a wonderful time and managed to raise an impressive for charity. Congratulations to our winners too: Winner of Guess the Weight of the Cake - Joint - Rory Potts and Willow Tyson who guessed 1kg (it was 1.2kg!) Winner of Throw the Bouquet - Ryaan Awad with an impressive 5.2m Winner of Design a Suit - Oliver Banks Winner of Design the Dress - Tia Galbraith Library Book Sponsorship We are very excited about our new library plans and work will be commencing soon. We are restocking the shelves with new authors, old favourites, classics, fiction and non-fiction. If you would like to sponsor a book (and have a bookplate in the front of it stating that it was given to school by you!) then please see Mrs Rhodes. She has a full list of our new stock; you can choose which book to sponsor and pay for it via her. Your book will then sit proudly on the shelves of our new library at the grand opening! 3 Sports Update Yesterday, Key Stage 2 took part in the cricket league. Unfortunately we didn t win, however the standard of our play was fantastic. Today, KS1 took part in a gymnastic competition. They performed their routines excellently and did our school proud. We look forward knowing what position we came in a few weeks time. Tickets available from Bushell House (Susan Barr) ; Eileen Roberts ; Fliss Pemberton COMING UP NEXT WEEK. Reception Next week, in our Literacy we will continue to work on our own story about a very hungry minibeast so far we have The Ravenous Beetle, The Famished Spider and The Peckish Fly. I can t wait to find out the ending to these wonderful stories. In maths we will be continuing to look at numbers to 100 and place value. If your child has not read their book by Friday, they will read with the reading buddies in year 6 during Friday lunch time play. Please could all slips for Beacon Fell be returned on Monday, thank you to those who have already returned them. If you have any junk / recycling, please send it in with your child; Reception would love to upcycle it! If you would still like to be linked to Tapestry, please just let me know; it really is a wonderful way to stay connected with your child s learning and progress. Monday - Yellow and Green Tuesday - Blue Wednesday - Red Year 1 Year 2 Class Novel: Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren Thank you for all of the junk materials for our DT - I think we have enough now and will make them in the first week back after half term! Please can we ask for your old jam jars?! We are entering the Longridge Show again this year and every child in yr1 needs to do a craft activity involving a jar. Any shape / size would be great, than you! We will be writing riddles next week to complete our poetry Class Novel: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory MyMaths: Next week, the children will be doing some exciting work on riddles which will result in them entering a national competition with their entries! In maths, the children will be carrying on looking at shape. For our topic work, the children will be finishing off their animal puppets and also concluding our topic based on Kenya and how it is different to England.
4 unit and they will be entered into a Young Writers competition so fingers crossed we have a winner! Year 3 Year 4 Class Novel: The Thieves of Ostia by Caroline Lawrence Thank you to all the parents who came out last night to the SRE meeting. I hope you found it informative and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Next Week: Next week we will be finishing our fractions topic and writing our adventure stories. We will also be coming to the end of our Romans topic. Homework: Mymaths homework is on this week to support our fraction work in lessons. We also have our weekly spellings and daily reading. If anyone wishes to do a little extra, there is the learning log with some suggestions on the class page of our website. Thank you for your continued support with this. Junk Modelling: Please could we start saving items that would be suitable for junk modelling: yoghurt pots, cardboard tubes, boxes etc. We are going to need them for our Longridge Show entries. Class assembly date: 29th June Class Novel: The Incredible Billy Wild by Joanna Nadin We ve had a super week following on from our adventures at Robinwood where the children have enjoyed reminiscing about their favourite and funniest memories. From this, they have written some delightful recounts. Next week English: Debate/arguments Maths: Decimals Topic: Hunted Homework Reading every day including the written responses Times tables- 12s including the inverse Spellings- random selection My maths every Friday. Year 5 Year 6 Class Novel: Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson Class Trip: Blackpool Zoo, 22nd May Next week: English: We will be finishing off our adventure stories and be writing them up in best to create a class set. Maths: We will continue looking at how to use protractors to measure angles (If you have protractors at home it would be really helpful to get in practice over the weekend). Topic: We will be continuing our history timeline and our research on the Anglo Saxons. Blackpool Zoo: The weather should be nice next week so it is unlikely the children will need to wear their coats, however please can you make sure they are protected from the sun as we will be outside all day. Please also make sure that you send your child to school with a packed lunch that can be thrown away afterwards. Thank you for your continued support with homework. I have sent home paper sheets this week and these are due in on Tuesday. Leavers Assembly date: 19th July Class Novel: The War That Saved My Life Wow Year 6. You have all worked extremely hard with this with your SATs and have had such an excellent attitude towards them. I couldn t be more proud! We have finished our week with our Marble Treat, which consisted of making cakes, pizzas and dens. To see some fabulous pictures of today, please see our Facebook. Year 6 Play Yesterday children found out what our end of year play will be - We ll Meet Again - a musical set in WW2. We have read through the play and children have informed me of which parts they would like to perform. They have been given a copy of the script and are to practice a section with the character they d like to be over the weekend, ready for auditions on Monday. Next week Monday - Children will finish publishing their Murder Mystery Stories. In History children will be studying the race to the sea and the battle of the somme. Children will take part in auditions for the role they would like to perform.
