1 Mossley Hollins High School Newsflash 5 Friday 6 th October 2017 Assessment Weeks Assessment weeks Year 7 and 11 Week commencing 9th October Further to my recent letter, I would like to remind parents of students in years 7 and 11, that the 1st assessment week will take place during week commencing 9th October. Preparation for the assessment should be well underway with homework tasks set to help support students with their preparation for the assessments. The results of the assessments will help teachers identify areas of weakness for individuals and groups and use this to plan future lessons which help address these key areas. Mrs Din Deputy Headteacher Cash Payments at School/ Sponsored Walk Money With immediate effect, we will no longer be accepting old 1 coins at the School Office. The old style 1 coins will cease to be legal tender on 15 October On a separate note, if your child still owes money for the sponsored walk, please can you ensure this is handed in at reception as soon as possible. Reading to the Dogs Our school has just begun the third year of the 'Pets As Therapy' sessions with local resident Tracy Booth, who brings her two dogs into school. The dogs, Poppy and Lucy, have had a positive effect on pupils and in particular, the youngsters that have taken part in the Read 2 Dogs programme. Indeed, such has been the success that former members of the scheme make a point of popping in and saying 'hello' to the two dogs. Tracy, owner of the two Golden Retrievers, comes into the school each week voluntarily. She revealed that contact with the animals helps students with stress levels and tension. The improved confidence and reduction in stress allied to the friendships built will have a huge benefit on the pupils during their time at Mossley Hollins.
2 Redgrave (Year Seven) - Girls Netball Tournament On Tuesday evening, the year 7 netball team took part in a tournament at Greater Academy Ashton GAA (formerly New Charter Academy). The girls played three matches with the first against GAA's first team. The girls took the lead early with a beautiful goal by Eve Lilley, however GAA came back strong and scored the next two goals. The final score was 4-3 to GAA. In the second match against GAA's second team, Mossley Hollins played fantastically as a team and showed great attacking skills. Kaiya Williams scored one goal, and Eve Lilley scored 4, making a superb win of 5-1. In the third and final game against Fairfield 3, again Mossley were strong in attack and Eve Lilley scored 6 goals. Defence worked superbly and managed to deflect all goals, making the final score 6-0 to Mossley Hollins. Congratulations to: Eve Lilley (Captain), Chloe Illingworth, Darcy Platt, Ella Murray, Katie Briers, Madison Wilkinson, Kaiya Williams and Hannah Buckley Turing (Year 11) Looking Beyond Year Eleven The table below provides you with the dates of the Open Evenings at local F.E. 3 Sports News YEAR 8 FOOTBALL The year 8 football team played their second game of the season on Thursday night against Alder, at home. The boys put in a solid defensive performance in the first half and managed to come in at half time 0-0. In the second half the boys played in an outstanding team performance and went on to win the game 2-0. Wesley Farrington scored an excellent headed goal from a Joe Winterbottom corner and Finlay Jones scored with a superb shot from just outside the box with 10 minutes to go. The boys should be proud of their performance and we hope they continue their winning run next week. Congratulations and well done to: Wesley Farrington, Kenzo Leigh, Jake Newton, Alex Cutler, Finlay Jones, Finley Lee, Jaymi Lawson, Liam Lewis, Joe Winterbottom, Jamie Craker, Jude Crozier-Gittings and Aiden McKechnie YEAR 7 FOOTBALL The Year 7 team played their second game of the season on Tuesday night against Alder, away. The boys put in a fantastic performance in both defence and attack to win the game 3-2. The boys went 1-0 up after an excellent passing move which was finished off by Joshua Felinski-Garside. They then went 2-1 up after half time with a fantastic free kick scored by Nick Gaunt and then, with 5 minutes to go, Lewis Byers scored the winning goal to make it 3-2. This is an outstanding achievement that the boys should be very proud of and we hope they continue their fantastic start in next week s game. Congratulations and well done to: Charlie Jones, Bayley Wassall, Nick Gaunt, Roman Burton, Thomas Stones, Noah Lucas, Louis McNulty, Lewis Byers, James Broadbent, Ewan Woodhead, Billy Harrison, Joshua Felinski-Garside and Jacob Ashton. YEAR 9 FOOTBALL The Year 9 team played their second game of the season on Wednesday night against Alder at home. Unfortunately, the boys lost the game 4-2. Despite a hardworking first half performance the boys went in at half time losing. They rallied together and put in a fine performance in the second half and managed to score 2 goals through Kian Broadbent and Oliver Stokes. They also created a number of one on one opportunities but could not manage to get the result their second half efforts deserved. We hope the boys manage to get their first win of the season next week. Well done to: Daniel Rhodes, Kian Broadbent, Will Hughes, Jude Sigley, Michel Lisic, Oliver Stokes, Sean Crawford, Konrad Debniak, Dylan Trow, Joe Wilks, Kyle Clayton and Jack Porter. YEAR 10 FOOTBALL The Year 10 team played their second game of the season on Wednesday night against West Hill, away. The boys were losing 2-0 at half time and then pulled two goals back in the second half through Brodie Ashworth to make it 2-2. Unfortunately, despite their effort and hard work they went on to lose the game 4-2. We hope the boys manage to get their first win of the season next week. Well done to: Daniel McPoland, Joshua Pringle, Dylan Lomax, Ethan Clayton, George Chappell, Brodie Ashworth, Matthew Smith, Xavier Burton, Joshua Platt, Noah Vink and Cameron Delaney.
